    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Load times, time outs, etc etc

Anyone else expierencing slow load times, unresponsive pages, and time outs when visiting fauna?

Ive done my own tracrts and it seems that something is going down at the dc where fauna is hosted...

Just a heads up...

It's been OK for me. One of my server techs says I am using up all of RAM (12 gb if I remember correctly), so there could be some slowness when RAM fills up from concurrent users and pages have to spool to disk. I'm not sure what the max is on my current server, but I may have to increase the RAM to max one of these days.

ok maybe that is what it is... ill get some tracerts for you when it happens so you can show him...

Just wanted to let you know so you knew... love the site and figured it would be best to mention it :)

another question. i've noticed the users aren't showing in the particular forum/section you're viewing anymore.... only the mods. you've got to go to a particular thread to see any users. is that intentional?

Yes. I'm changing some optional settings to see how that affects server load. Some of the larger sites I have gone to apparently disable these optionals for that very reason. So it's entirely possible that we might have to live without them here as well if throughput and server load becomes an issue.

That explains it.

Are you using your own server or renting one out from someone?

I lease a server at a datacenter. Unless you have a very expensive data line coming to your house, you really can't host a server very effectively from your own residence.
