In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Long story short. Did some partying, made a stupid decision to brand myself with a lighter on the inside of my arm. I did some research and found out its a second degree burn, but what I couldnt find out is wether or not its infected. It isnt pussing or anything gross, just red around the edges and sore. I'm only concerned because it doesnt look like any other burn ive gotten. Sorry for the blury pic and graphic content but I'm trying to save myself a medical bill for an ER visit. Any help would be nice. Thank you.

I like it. It looks like a penis. Other than that, it doesn't matter if its infected and you get gangrene and die. You are just one more reckless idiot that the world does not need. Its people like you that make headlines when you get killed by your python or it escapes and precipitates a plethora of restrictive laws that affect those of us that are serious and responsible herpetoculturists.
Its my understanding that you need to be dead to be nominated for a darwin award, so hopefully, maybe you will still go down in history, one way or another.

Hey bud, you were 17 once too. You partied just like every 17 year old did at one point in his or her life. I am not a reckless idiot. I drive a truck to work or school everyday, pay for gas and insurance. Own about 30 snakes and make some money on the side breeding and selling. This isn't a thread about morals or who's more responsible then the other person. This is me asking you guys for your opinion so I can save myself a medical bill. Btw if I understood that right you just called a 17 year old a reckless idiot. Hope you're feeling high and mighty.

Cody it is a second degree burn and is infected. you will need to wash it with peroxide, keep it clean and covered for a few days. Also putting some silvadine cream on it should help with the healing and cleaning of the wound. Lighters are not ment for arms- only cigarettes, candles, grills, and crack pipes. Remember, there are no mistakes when partying, only problems after (like a kid with a chick who's name you dont know).

I agree....and after a few days(I would say 4-5) if it isnt looking any better at all, I would go have it checked. Might just have a medical bill

Dilute the peroxide with water. Do half water and half peroxide. You don't want to push any infection you might have brewing in there further back, which is what peroxide will do by itself.

Put on triple antibiotic ointment after cleaning with half peroxide half water solution, then cover with gauze and wound tape.

If it's not better, or looks worse in 2-3 days, please get it checked at a doctors office.

triple antibiotic will work, but not as good as silvadine cream. Silvadine cream is made for burns of this nature and worse. the triple antibiotic is made for more minor issues. Yes It will work, but will take longer and leave a wicked scar. As far as diluting the peroxide, I do agree It can be more helpful.

Use an antibiotic based cream... not an ointment based product. The wound needs to breath some and can't do that very well if covered in thick petroleum ointment. Keep it covered and moist for the most part.. change bandage and let it air out a minute or so a few times a day. You want to try and keep the scab/skin area of the wound as soft as possible for as long as possible rather than let it dry and harden up....less scarring that way.

Personally I would never put peroxide on a wound as a means of cleaning. Instead get a small bottle of Hibiclens from a local pharmacy/grocery store (runs about $7-9).. it's the human version of chlorhexidine and does not require a prescription or anything. Get the bottle of liquid... not the new "pads" that are a combo of chlorhex and alcohol. Some stores carry the bottles on the shelves and some keep it behind the pharmacy counter so just ask for it. The antiseptic/disinfecting properties of hibiclens last about 4-6 hours so it's likely to do a better job of protecting than peroxide could ever hope to. You can use a few drops of Hibiclens mixed with a few drops of water and a q-tip to rub it around the wound area lightly to clean it every time you change the bandage.

I say lick it clean and let it heal.

Unless it starts weeping opaque fluid, or the red starts spreading or it starts swelling, it will probably heal up fine with any of the advice here. Keep it clean and put some sort of ointment/gel/antibiotic/burn healing on it and it should be okay.

I agree, I don't go to a doctor unless it's really necassary and honestly, it rarely is. If the wound goes gangrenous and your arm falls off, we want pics, okay?

Everyone does stupid stuff at some point(more stupid things if you drink, but some even if you don't) so you know, it's not that big of deal that you did something dumb. Nothing to do with you being 17 or a guy(unless you did to impress a girl, in which case, yeah, you're a dumb teen guy, big surprise, I'm told it's common, lol) since plenty of old guys do dumb stuff, and plenty of women of all ages do dumb stuff. Heck, I do dumb stuff on a regular basis.

Good luck.

:iagree:

I've been cooking in restaurants since I was 14, I've seen some pretty nasty burns in the kitchen over the years. Only once have I seen someone have to go to the hospital. That was for a very nasty grease burn where the infection started traveling up her arm. I'm sure it will be just fine with some basic first aid.

What's a 17 yearold doing "partying" hard enough to do that to themselves? :NoNo::NoNo::shootfoot
That seems like the real question here.
Maybe that'll serve as a reminder to take it easy next time... but having been 17 before and seen all the stupidity that goes on at college, I doubt it. :censored:

I was 17 once. Never did anything to that degree. I did get burned by a cigar once when I was 19, but not by my own free will. It looked a lot like your burn (minus the penis look, j/k). I cleaned it really well with a 50/50 mix of peroxide and put some type of burn cream on it. It looked rough for well over a week. Don't peel the scab.

I agree with wolfy-hound and lick it clean! It will be alright, i've seen plenty of those and have 1 myself and can't remember if i even put anything on it. As far as doing that to yourself, what's done is done, hopefully you won't do it again. Good luck with it. The little penis is pretty damn funny though:rofl:

had one one like that from holding a firework, didnt clean it, peeled the scab, let it get dry, all the things youre NOT supposed to do, and i dont even have a scar. (it wasnt as "big" as yours is though) ;)
