In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I didnt know about the screen shot thanks for doing that. I am also pretty new to this site, I dont post much at all. Just browse the for sale ads mostly.

That was the only way the lady I bought them from would ship them. I asked her to ship a different way and she didnt want to.

That alone would have been a deal killer with me and she really would have no gripe to support her since anyone in the herping world knows you do not ship USPS.

I figured I won it through there and she garaunteed live arrival, so I would let her go with that if thats how she was comfortable, I personally use DHL. That would have been my carrier of choice. I also paid shipping, so it didnt save her money anyway, that is just how she wanted to do it.

I am not a big fan of USPS, but I've been in the herping world as a breeder for 37 years, and I don't know that !! Additionally, we have another poster in this thread that has had enormous success with USPS, and I know many who use it often and successfully! Rhetorical question, but what's with all these blanket statements by folks I never heard of before speaking for the greater herp community ??

Seems a few folks out there are disappointend it wasn't a different seller

Why would a shipping company allow one species of reptile to be shipped and not another,ie:lizards ok to ship while snakes are not.
Could that be a cause to some of the confusion about shipping ,people working with different species?
I have not had to ship an animal yet {only receive} so i am unaware of ALL the rules and regulations.

Since this thread started out as a shipping issue with USPS destroying a box, this belongs in the shipping forum and as such, has been moved there. Any further discussion regarding the seller needs to take place in a seperate thread on the BOI.

Christopher,
There are many reasons snakes are more feared (or worried about) than lizards, etc. For instance, the new movie is not "Lizards on a Plane". So all he phobias you can think of have much to do with it. From a more pragmatic view, snakes are traditionally better escape artists than lizards.

Jim, Unfortunately i believe it might just get worse now that that movie is out.I hope it goes to video soon that way its out of the theaters and not in the forfront of peoples minds.
As a shipper wouldn't it make a whole lot of sense to ship in a crush proof box.It may cost a little more to send ,but you'll have increased the odds of the package getting there unharmed.

O/T Jim, went to your web-site ,you have some amazing animals. How many cages are shown in those row banks of cages?
Looks like a top notch facility. With unbelievable production capability.
And with 37 years of experience ,i can understand your authority of knowledge on the reptile business .

Chris,
LOL ... forgive me, and thanks for the compliments ! Several mentioned earlier (as did I, naturally ..... LOL at myself), that the actual container could have been better. A link to Superior Enterprise was give for those who do not want to cut their own styrofoam insulation to fit their box. Insulation makes sense no matter the season, and strengthens the box as well.

As a potential seller, and this was pointed out by Exotic Wholesale (forgive me if I got the name wrong), it makes all the sense in the world to get it right the first time. Live animals, happy customers, no BOI thread, etc. That small investment in putting a smile on your customers face is worth the cost many times over. And even if you choose to pass the cost on to the customer, how many are going to blink at $5 spent for a quality shipping container designed to insure their animal's health?

There are still so many people in this business who are "penny wise and pound foolish", where penny and pound refer to British money. On the bright side, it means more opportunity for those who are not !

I'll stick with DHL and Delta. :D

But I must say, even after reading this, I would still sooner use USPS than UPS to ship anything. I have had way more unpleasant experiences from the big brown eye than I have ever had with the post office. UPS has left frozen feeders sitting in the sun outside My gate, even though clearly marked "frozen feeders". On more than one occasion. My last thermostat order came on time, but CRUSHED like the package above. Good thing they aren't really squishable.

As pointed out, all carriers have their moments. I just see and here a lot more from UPS.

Did she make good yet? Just curious.

You know, in the future, get the address of the sender, go to DHL's site, and schedule a pick up at the senders address, and have it delivered to you. Use your account, and cover the cost of shipping yourself. Of course, you'd have to work out the times and details with the sender, but I've done it that way before.

I didnt even think of that, and I wish I had, I dont have an account with them, but I prbably could have set up the pick up with them anyway and just paid. Too late now, but I guess I really learned from experience on this one.

Well Sean, since this is now in the "Shipping Forum", there are so many things you can do pro-actively with shipping to minimize risk. Rich's examples are very good ones. With regard to problems where your local delivery person may pull stunts such as Rich described (leaving it at the gate), you may ask the shipper to ship to the local Service Center of the shipper as a "hold for pick-up", thereby eliminating the delivery person on your end (and hot truck) altogether. BTW, in my neck of the woods, UPS is great, and DHL sucks. But its not the companies, rather just the local end-delivery (or pick-up) person that makes all the difference. DHL leaves it 400 feet from the facility at the gate, for fear of the friendliest dog in the county, while UPS comes up and knows exactly where to leave any delivery, pick-up outgoing, and pet the dog ! When in doubt, contact some of us and ask what we would recommend as a solution before you just accept things as is.

Yeah I will have to do that next time, and take all these suggestions and use them for the next time, because this sucks. At this point as long as I get my money back from this lady, Ill be happy, but Im beggining to wonder if I am going to get it. Anyways, I wanted to thank you guys and girls for the help on this, and thanks you for the support. Ill let you know the final outcome.

Did you pay with a credit card? If so do a chargeback.

Always used a credit card for Paypal purchases. Because if there isn't any money in the account Paypal can't refund anything. At least this way you usually if not always get your money back.

Good luck

No more about the deal itself please. If anyone wishes to discuss the deal itself, like I said before, a new thread needs to be started on the BOI. This started as a thread about USPS shipping practices and needs to stay that way. I will have no problem closing and possible deleting this thread if that simple request can not be followed.
