    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello. I'm new to leopard geckos and I'm looking for some good starting geckos. There is still some information I need to get before I make the acquisition, but I figure if you have something available you could probably provide me with the facts I'm not sure about. My main question is about lighting and heating. Do leopard geckos need a light source and a heat source?

Anyways, if you can help me I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Katie

Katie, I think it's great you've got an interest in leos. They really do make wondeful pets. However, I suggest you purchase the Leopard Gecko Manual. This is a handy book to keep around even for experienced leo owners, but it'll let you know what you should expect in owning a leopard gecko.

I agree with getting the manual before you get a gecko. To answer your lighting/ heating question... They do not need a special bulb. What they do require is a 10-12 hour photo period which basically means they need some lighting making them think it's daytime. If you keep them in a 10 gallon glass tank then a $8 18"fluorescent from Home Depot on a lamp timer will do... in fact I have quite a few of them. Now, you can keep a gecko at 80-85 degrees day and night 24/7, if your home stays around 75 degrees at night then the fluorescent should due. Thats a quickie answer to your question... any others feel free to email me.
