In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just got these two beauties from PetCo. I realize that is not the best place to buy Leos but I could just not say no to these at only $20. I know one of the store managers at the store and she told me that they get their Leos from either Cal Zoo or Quality Reptiles. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these wholesalers.

Also do these look like they will be High Yellow to you. I know they are Abreants.

Thanks,
Jeff C.

A bit about Call Zoo

Call Zoo is a bacterial pit, literally at least the last time I was there. There were lizzards running all over and dead reptiles in most of the cages. Most of all the moniters had respatory infections and they house like 100 lizzards of all different kinds in only 3X2X1' cages, and they just through out the dead ones that die so if those dead ones actually had some sort of desease there is a good chance of it spreading. One of the employees steped on one and said oh well. The smell is noziating to say the least. Quoranteen these adorable babies that you just got just in case they did come from there( they look too good to have come from them) They will raise there wholasale costs if some come through like that so it is probibly safe to say they are from the other people.

Good luch, Shanell

They look like they may turn out to be hypo tangerines just from the pics, see if that black starts to fade it looks a bit transparent in one, they are very nice!

Well I quoranteen everything just to be safe. It is a shame to hear they have gone so far downhill. I use to buy from them years ago (back in the 80's) and always got high quality. I am sure hoping that they did not come from there now. Problem is years ago Quality Reptiles had a real bad reputation so I am hoping they have improved. These babies simply look to nice to have come from a low quality importor/wholesaler.

Yes alot of the southern California Petcos do get theres from Cal Zoo but a few do get them from independant breeders. Cal Zoo has gone way down hill in the past 5 years. We used to purchase from them but only we went in and hand selected but they just got way to bad.

Petco stores puts in a reginal order now so chances are they may have come from somewhere completly different.

Again good luck they are just beautiful. There is a thread somewhere on the leo forum asking people to post pics of the ones they got from petco, I posted the ones I got and there are alot of really nice ones that have come from there.

Wow....what a differance!....Those actually look nice!
I was just in Petco tonight in Coeur d' alene Idaho, and there leo babies were terrible there was a dead one just laying on the floor of the cage with another one missing it's tail which looked like it wouldn't make it through the night. There were about 15 to 20 of them in the cage and just thinking about those poor baybies makes me want to go wash my hands again!.....and I didn't even touch the cage. I keep reading how this person bought this great animal and that person found such a great deal.......NO WAY at this Petco...what a shame.:(

Yep they are all different

I was in one in Brea California and they had this little one on there that was going through a really bad shed and just getting picked on really bad by the way bigger ones in there with it. The manager was way cool and adopted it out to me, I thought for sure it would not even make it through the night but it did and after getting it all cleaned up and fed it looks really really nice now.

I have also walked in to petco's and other reptile stores and there were dead ones in the cage and the managers swore it was sleeping and in perfect health. I was in tears walking out of there then went and turned them in.

Yes we are lucky. The PetCo here in Santee, California is really good. The store manager is always looking out for the best for the animals. Their reptile person has raised and bred reptiles for a number of years. The store is always clean. Heck I don't think I have ever even seen a dead fish there.

So how do you tell the differance between High Yellow, Tangerine, and Hypo Tangerine? All these new morphs are starting to really confuse me. The last time I had/bred Leos the only morphs around was High Yellow, Abreant, Jungle, and Albinos (Trempor) where just starting to become readily available.

Thanks,
Jeff C

I am simply going off what I can see in one of the pics, the black looks to be a bit transparent not solid in color so that tells me that with each sed that may start to diminish. They look really orange in the pic so I was saying on the one if that black fades it may be a hypo tangerine. A high yellow would look more of a brighter black with bright yellow. I will go take some pics and post them for you, hang on.

This is one of my hypo tangerine babies

This came from 2 hypo tang adults and the black is like a faded black

Thanks Shanell,

They actually are that orange. I have been taking allot of Corn Snake pics lately and have my camera really tweaked to get as close to the real color as possible. I have to say I was very surprised when these pics came out so nice :) That is except for the second pic I'm not to happy with that one.

One of them (the one on top in the first pic and the bottom in all the rest) has much lighter brown markings. The other one has darker markings that seem to be lighter and fading from the middle out.

Thanks,
Jeff C.

This is what my hypo that i got from petco looks like now, it looked just like the one in the last pic but the black was a bit more transparent

Those are very nice. Is their color pretty accurate? I ask because ours are much more orange then that. I love the second one. I used to have a line like that that I sold as Lavanders. I have not seen anyone selling Lavanders any longer so I am wondering if they are now calling them Hypos.

Unfortunatly I am dissabled and can not drive and there is no real public transportation for me to get from here to Pomona. Though I'll be at the show this weekend here in San Diego.

Yes unfortinatly I would be there as well but really messed up my foot so I am out of walking commision for a while. No the coloring is much more orange than that a real deep rusty orange and the yellow is like a flouresent yellow, i have been having a bit of trouble with my camera for the little guys picture taking. The one in my hand does have lavender in it on the sides and around the neck. I have a high yellow lavender male that is pretty much yellow and a really nice shade of lavender in the banding. Alot of the ones I see now have just the nice lavender highlights running through them.

Sorry to hear about your foot. I hope that it gets better soon. Maybe we will see you at the show here in October then.

It is to bad about the camera. But I think I know waht you mean about the orange. Ours are the same a very rich burnt orange color. Almost identical to a tangerine (the fruite that is LOL).

Jeff C.

There will be a few shows in October, the IRBA and also Radical reptiles show in Costa Mesa as well as one in Tempe Arizona so I will have to see what my stock looks like then but either way we always go the all that we can to shop around and see all our friends.

Here's one of my petco leos....

This is Sunset, I also have 3 other Tangs that I got from petco.
