In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

RIP Big Girl

I received this big girl on Friday 7-9-04 from Lori aka LShadow03@hotmail 785-243-9636 she shipped her through UPS.I didn't want to air this here and tried to take care of this matter with her but she don't answer the phone and also cannot open the pics when I send them to her so she says in an email I received last night. So here are a few pics of the animal when I received her at 10.30 am DOA.Also The animal was shipped in an insulated box with heat and no air holes through both boxes that I could visibly see. Lori was also told by me how to ship the animal correctly but chose to ignore my shipping advice altogether. And to answer your Question Lori, the animal didn't die from the shipping it died because It suffocated combined with the heat you artificially added.Lori Once again I am sorry for your loss of a pet. I went ahead and buried her out in the backyard as I said I would so please refund my money its the least you can do.I don't wish to notify paypal and have our accts frozen so Please Do Whats Right.Rob Pennisi

Did you say heat?
Sounds like not only suffocation, but she probably cooked from the inside out.
I hope you can get this resolved!

I thought that most people wanted you to send the body back so that they could see for themselves that it was dead? Granted, you can tell from the pics - but I've heard most people want to have the physical evidence.

Either way, Good Luck. Why would anyone ship ANY kind of live animal with HEAT in the middle of July??? That makes no sense! Cold/Ice packs, yeah, but heat?!?!?? And no air holes??? Has this person ever shipped before????

Well if it would have been shipped the right way, it would still be alive..... Did you or the seller know it is illegal to ship snakes via UPS???? I do not feel bad for you..... I do feel sorry for that snake......

Rob, I did not mean I did not feel sorry for you...... I ment the shipper..... Just for the record.....

Just to educate and advise: first, you normaly do not put holes in an insulated box, it just defeats the whole point, and 99% of the time is the wrong thing to do. Second, it is not "illegal" to ship snakes via UPS. The heat pack used in July is a bit odd, and is most likely the reason the snake died, and most likely the only reason. Air flow in the box is not normaly an issue when shipping reptiles.

This "summer" has been a little bit odd as far as temperatures go. Ten days ago I had to ship baby ball pythons to Oklahoma. Temperatures were on the 50's on my end and 80's on destination the next day. Temperatures on my side would have probably warranted a heat pack but it would have been dangerous if by any chance there was a delay on the other end. The snakes were thus shipped w/o heat packs.

Yes, low temperatures (not freezing of course) over a prolonged period of time can result in a sick snake, but hot temperatures over a short period of time result in a dead snake.

Although I agree that when using heat packs we don't drill holes in this case though (summer) they could have saved the snake's life.

Regards.

Poor, poor ball.

I'm not taking sides, but in the 1st photo there where 2 visible air holes. Although I have only had 3 experiences with actual shipping and have read hundreds of posts about it over the last few years, I think the heat pack would have been the biggest mistake. I read the previous reply and I would not be willing to ship in an insulted box with no holes but instead would put a few holes in a location like the bottom and top corners where a bit of fresh air could exchange through the corners of the outside container. Heat packs use oxygen to produce the chemical reaction that causes heat as a by-product. 02 would be depleted much faster without an air hole.

I was curious if you measured the temp upon opening the box with a temp gun.

I hope you get this worked out with the breeder.

Not to digress from the point here, but it is a violation of the Lacy Act if the exterior of the shipping container is not clearly marked with the quantity and correct contents with respect to reptilian shipments for interstate commerce. This is why many folks who have an "agreement" with their ground carriers or send mis-labelled boxes are unknowingly in violation of this Federal Statute and may be why the previous poster mentioned this shipments legality.

We agree the heat pack is the probable cause in this death and our sympathy extends to the original poster. Hopefull the seller will do the right thing here and refund the monies involved.

apologies - Lacey Act, not Lacy Act

The portion of the statute referred to is copied here from section 3372(b). The Act in its entirety can be found here

(b) Marking offenses

It is unlawful for any person to import, export, or transport in interstate commerce any container or package containing any fish or wildlife unless the container or package has previously been plainly marked, labeled, or tagged in accordance with the regulations issued pursuant to paragraph (2) of section 3376(a) of this title.

Robert,

You need to start a new thread with the person's name in the subject line. I will then merge the two together.

Look at UPSs rules for shipping...... Snakes are not allowed to be shipped via UPS..... Lizards are ok though...... Snakes are supposed to be shipped via delta dash or northwest, venomous or non venomous

She said that she'd never shipped before and in her defense Lori is just a petowner and not a breeder but her boyfriend had and she has had animals shipped to her in the past. Her reasoning for using the heat was because she said the store which she sent the animal out of is usually cold and well Air conditioned and the animal had to sit there several hours before it would be picked up.Lori please call me and make this right...Rob

It's a matter of policy, not legality.

Also, UPS will knowingly accept nonvenomous snakes from certain shippers.. This is an issue that has been worked with their corporate office in the past. However, they've been known to be fickle and drop accounts with no rhyme or reason.

FedEx is also currently accepting live nonvenomous reptiles for shipment. The details of how to get approved for, and set up, this account can be found in the shipping forum on this site.
