In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I purchased a columbian "male" red tail boa from her back in august. Well needless to say I recently just found a very good local breeder who knows how to PROPERLY sex snakes and I just found out that my "male" just so happens to be a definite female. I also discovered that my female red tail is also a pastel. How this eluded a "professional" breeder is quite baffling. Before I bought HER I looked at this site and saw plenty of positive feedback about boasandballs.com.

And what did Lynne have to say about this when you contacted her to let her know of the mistake? You have contacted her, right?

Could you post a picture, actually a couple of them, of your snake please?

The side shot would be good and one of the ventral side of her tail.

thanks

Right now she is probably checking her records and seeing what particular snake I bought from her. She also asked about how the person sexed her and if he used the right size prob. In my opinion this could just be a big error or accident but still. As for the pics I need to let my camera charge so I will post the pics up later today.

Just a note. Pastel in Boas is misused a lot. I see just clean Columbians marked as pastel all the time. Just a bit of info

seems like "watch out" may have been a bit premature....
OOPS - I just noticed that you purchased the snake in August...
Just how recently did you decide/discover it was incorrectly sexed?
And how recently did you notify the seller?

My original statement was based upon your post that she was probably going through her records to see exactly which snake she sold you.

This should all have been brought up with Lynne to find a resolution FIRST. Perhaps after checking her records and asking questions (which I would also do if I were her), if there was a mix up, she may resolve it on her own. But without her getting the chance to respond before posting on the BOI.......just put yourself in her shoes. I understand that you are upset, and maybe rightfully so, but this really should be the last resort. These threads stay here FOREVER. Just some food for thought.

Does this "very good local breeder who knows how to PROPERLY sex snakes" keep/breed Colombian boas?

I called Lynn to let her know about this thread so she can respond. She does not normally frequent this site.

I have purchased supplies and a couple BP's from her in the past and the snakes have all been exactly as advertised. Hopefully it is just a misunderstanding, and if not, I would think she will work to rectify the situation.

I would say next time contact the seller and work the situation out. Then if you do not get a resolution come to the BOI ...

In my esperance if you probe a snake with too big of a probe you will think it is a female when it is a male.

I can feel the hemipene in the tail. If you pinch the tail at the vent and pull back to the tip of the tail you can feel the pop pop of the hemipenes. Now it works best if your thumb is on the spine and your finger is on the soft underside since your finger is more sensitive than your thumb. This is the safest way to tell if it is a boy or girl. I never, never pop a boa, only ball pythons (they have short ones).

?

If I purchased a snake in August, and did'nt check the sex of that snake until Feb/Mar of the following year to be sure I got what I ordered.I would have no one to blame but MYSELF!I have made the mistake of not sexing new animals for an extended time and ended up with improperly sexed animals, but just take the hit if I failed to double check sex in a timely manner.

The breeder showed me how to pop a red tail boa and outlined the hemipenis on it. Then he took mine and poped it and no hemipene. I told him that I got this boa from a really trustworthy person and that I am sure that it is a male. So he offered to prob it and it was indeed a female. The whole experience was quite embrassing. He did say that it is hard to tell on boas when you pop them which is why he offered to prob it .I do recognized that it is entirely too late to respond but since I happen to live in the middle of nowhere it is very difficult to find any snake experts or vet who are specialize with reptiles.

It may be premature or it may not but in my opinion this was something I thought I should bring up.

There's no two ways or "but" about it-- the "Watch Out" comment was premature and inconsiderate. "Bringing up" something and putting a black mark next to someone's name over nothing are two different things. You did the latter. Do you think sexing snakes is a 100% thing? Are you perfect? You also made a negative comment toward the seller when you posted that you found her failure to label the snake as a pastel baffling. You put "professional" in quotations as if the seller's professionalism was in question when it wasn't at all.

I'm a fan and supporter of the BOI, but I hate these threads. I know it's the nature of the beast, but it sucks that anybody can just go off half-cocked and jeopardize a seller's reputation over nothing. I think you owe Lynn an apology.

I just called Lynne up and talked to her and we got everything cleared up. I would like to apologize for this post and to Lynne. I am going to take her advice and get it resexed.
