In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Make The Hammack Fund permanent.

Hair trigger? Sheesh, I certainly hope that none of my guns have a "hair trigger" like that. It would take me all day tugging on the trigger just to shoot one bullet...

The conversations are all here on this site and the manner in which the events took place. Either you haven't been paying attention or "hair trigger" means something different to you then it does to me. It is perfectly OK to disagree with me, but once you start badgering me and being antagonistic about it every chance you get, well you take your chances about how long it will take me to get fed up with you. And I'm pretty darn certain that I am not the only person who Chris has been antagonistic towards on this site, so no it is not solely a personal issue. He has crossed swords with my moderators and other members as well. It was just time for that to come to an end.

If some of you want to consider it a personal issue, well so be it. I just don't have to put up with it for long, and I am not going to.

Jamie, I think that if it was Rich's "hair trigger response" that this would have happened several days ago.

...But he didn't, at least not soon enough. I think agreeing to disagree is one thing, but having to have the last word and consistently adding new fuel to the fire isn't going to fit in with wanting to play nice.

I agree that Chris is a good guy with a good reputation in the industry, but I think he got carried away, and didn't know when enough was enough. It's too bad, really, but I can see why Rich did what he did. I don't know that I would be able to offer as much tolerance, especially when the **** is flying at you from so many different directions.

I have to agree this was anythig but a "hair trigger" response. That isn't to say that there isn't enough blame to go around. A suspension or two might have worked to bring things to a close without resorting to banning. But hey, hindsight is always 20-20.

You know what people, some of you really suck.

Was there EVER a gaurentee made that the auctions WOULD fund fauna's expenses in TOTALITY much less FOREVER?

You came in, made your donations when the fund was new and, as far as I know, NO ONE knew how it would turn out.

It seems that it did not generate enough to keep the site from going paytoplay. Shucks.

NOW some of you are pissed that your efforts, unasked for, were NOT sufficient to keep the entire site free? You're upset that something you VOLUNTEERED for turned out to NOT work as well as YOU had hoped it would? BOO friggin' HOO.

Don't donate. Don't volunteer.

It's as simple as that.

I didn't volunteer, didn't donate because I DIDN'T WANT TO. I am a supporter of this site in my way, I point a lot of people here, I like it here, I may even support a forum here and I have DEFINATELY disagreed with Rich and his Mods a time or two. I still think it's about the best thing I've come across relating to reptiles.

We all have the ability to interact just as much or as little as WE choose here at Fauna.

I wouldn't have taken the crap Chris was handing out as long as Rich did. I wouldn't have backed up or ignored some of the things Rich has. Six of one and a half dozen of the other.

What do either of those things have to do with the ESSENSE of this site?

NOTHING.

WE, the Faithful Fauna Readers, WE make this what it is. We voice our opinions, we support those who need it, we try to make our hobby/business a BETTER one by sharing what we know and helping out those in need.

Along that path of being helpful there are dips ( couldn't resist Chris) and bumps and hidden valleys as well as some pretty cool plataues(peaks, tops, you know the things on top of mountains). Occasionally the path needs some maintainence. The big yellow grader needs to come along and smooth over the rough parts and fill in the dips to keep it in good condition for everyone else. The Big Yellow Grader just passed by.

Speak up and say whatever you want, in the appropiate forum-which is sometimes hard to figure out, eh Rich- and you'll get honest responses. Just don't, cuz it makes you look bad, WHINE about it after you've done it.

If you think you made a mistake with the fauna fund, fine. Maybe you did. BUT, at the time, YOU decided to HELP here, no one forced anyone to donate anything.

Things change. Relationships evolve. The Fund didn't work out the way some had hoped it would. Oh well. All of you who did donate got good Karma from it, what more were you looking for? (if you're truly altruistic the answer is NOTHING) Ya done good and now it's out of your hands. LET IT GO.

Chris asked for it. Rich gave him what he asked for. Sometimes Rich asks for it. He's gotten it to, let me assure you. The thing is, Rich is King. Bitch and moan all you want but HE can release you from bondage ANY TIME HE LIKES. It's his perogative and right as King.

Sure, Chris, should he opt to stay away, will be missed. But do you REALLY think he is irreplacable? None of us are. Best to keep that in mind whilst shopping fer them bigger-than-you-need britches.

Lighten Up.

Matt,

You need to read some of the posts made by Chris recently and reassess your statement. You can find some recent ones at http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/search.php?searchid=128193.

I don't necessarily agree with Rich's decision. In fact I posted the first comment about it this morning. But Chris went beyond simply "disagreeing".

Wes,

I fully agree with the first part of your post. I really believe in this site and what Rich is doing. The switch to pay for play was entirely necessary for him and I am more than happy to give what I can to help. I disagree with his decision to ban Chris before doling out a suspension or 2 but it is his site. Nobody is irreplacable. Not here, and not in the real world outside of our computers.

Jamie

Wait, did I just say I agree with Wes. Oh man...

No, rich skipped right past all the fines and suspensions and banned chris. If that doesn't fall into the category of over-reacting then I'm the ghost of Elvis.

Laura, when it comes right down to it, who's call is it to make? Yours, a member who has NOT been on the recieving side of Chris or the OWNER of this website who HAS been on the recieving end more than once?

Tell Red I said hey and I want a peanutbutter and nanner sammich.

Oh Wes, i know whoever's king makes the rules and changes them to suit his whims. and rich is king of fauna. Im not saying he isnt able to ban people arbitrarily. Im just strongly disapproving of this action. (off with my head)

Yeah, earlier today I had some misgivings about my outright banning Chris. But you know what? Reading over his latest posts prior to the ban cured me of that feeling pretty quickly. The reason I decided NOT to use the suspension rather then the ban was because I felt pretty certain (may or may not be accurate), that Chris would have just paid that measly $10 and been right back on here and right back where he left off with the antagonism. So that would have just been a hollow gesture on my part and an exercise in futility.

Certainly emotions are running high in a lot of people from the circumstances recently that have taken place. And a lot of people have taken stock of their own lives and perhaps done some re-evaluation of what is really important to them. Can I not be afforded the same consideration? Is it so incredibly difficult to imagine that perhaps I just came to the realization that life is just too damned short to have to put up with the sort of crap I was being subjected to? Why do some people feel that I am REQUIRED to put up with it, with no recourse but to just grin and bear it?

I have been running this site for a few years now, and NEVER can I remember any decision that I have EVER made that has been unanimously agreed upon by the members here. Certainly this one is no different. Matter of fact I nearly fell over dead from a heart attack when I saw so little actual hate mail here. I fully expected a LOT more.

So really, if you think you could have put up with the antagonism much longer then I did, congratulations, you are a much better man then I am, I guess. But I would ask if you are saying that from a hypothetical stance, or if you actually have had any experience in my shoes prior to making this claim.

Disapproving is OK. Disagreeing is OK. But antagonism over disapproving or disagreeing post after post after post, over several days, is NOT ok. If you find one thing after another to fault me and the way I run this site, and harp about it every opportunity you can, then I guess this just isn't the place for you. I can only do the best I can, and I am certainly not claiming to be perfect. But someone whose apparent goal is to just rub my nose in my imperfection does need to know when enough is enough. Even without a warning shot being fired first.

And your head will stay attached as long as you don't carry around he axe flashing it at me daring me to use it in post after post, day in and day out. I cannot imagine that Chris could not see this coming, because certainly some other people did.

As I mentioned in my previous post, life is just too short for me to have to put up with someone whose presence here is optional, and the removal of which would be an overwhelming relief to my general well being. There is not going to be a general swing to wholesale bannings here, by any means. But there is certainly going to be no inhibition on my part if some extreme provocation leads me to believe that this is the best course of action to take, for my sake, for the sake of this site, or for both. In other words, getting that axe whacked across your neck shouldn't leave a surprised look on your face as your head rolls into the basket. :dgrin:
