In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

You dont even know what youre doing with the one you have now. Sad. Buy a book.

this was among my karma comments. I just want to make the point of i cant afford the gecko book at this time and neither can my family. I am sick with some thing and the doctors dont have a clue as to what is wrong with me. I could have endometiosis (a paracite that eats away at the uteris) or i could have cervical cancer.................both run in my family. So i am having to pay doctor bills and I miss work cause i am sick. The first thing i see when i get up in the mornings is my little Hektor in his tank; seeing him/her in the morning puts a smile on my face. I do want more geckos...........lizards in general. I joined this forum so i could get avice from people who have owned and raised geckos and have more experiance. As i have admited before on a previous post in "new to gecko's". I was being stubborn about the sand and i have removed the sand and i have stared asking questions about what i am wanting to do before i do them. I think that shows i am willing to listen. I may not agree with the advice given to me but i go with it cause it is comming from people with years of experiance. This was not ment to insult anyone.......................just felt i had to set this straight.

Hey,
you can ask us what ever you want.we all used to be newbies at it.and who ever said that is a jerk,if they were too say that down here in the duke city of new mexico they might of gotten beat up,ive seen it happen and have learned how to just be nice.but back to what i was saying dont worry ask us any question you want HEY WE LIVE IN AMERICA AND WE DESERVE TOO SPEAK AND ANYTHING WE WANT and good way to stand up for yourself.

Evelyn, there are those that feel they are always right and to disagree with them makes you an imbecile. Taking the time to ask questions and accept any advice given you shows a great amount of respect you have for your pets.

Many times we are fed false info from pet stores, do a little research and find out there is a few things that need to change. Taking advice from pet stores seems right, but then they are only looking for a sale which we get stuck in the middle of. From my experience, most first time reptile owners did not do a great amount of research before they bought their first pet. This is not a bad thing because they are strictly following the advice the store told them. There is nothing wrong with this, they are doing the right thing until they expand their knowledge and inhance the care of their pets. It is when a person learns more and refuses to act on that new knowledge, that is when one can question their true motives.

Continue your research and learning, those here who have been in your position are the ones who are really here to help. Ignore the person who treated you that way, remember karma, what goes around comes around. Take the time to help someone here and others will quickly want to help you.

I think what was said could have been said in a much nicer or more polite way, but I THINK the intentions behind it may have been well meant. I truly feel for your troubles, and wish you the best, but I think the point that this person was unsuccessfully trying to make was simply this......if you can't afford to buy a book about leos, maybe you shouldn't be thinking about putting more money into another lizard (I'm only assuming here that this was in response to your post about thinking of getting a Beardie? I apologize if I'm wrong!) If money is really that tight, you need to think about the needs of the critter you already have....take that money you would be spending on buying and feeding a new Beardie, and save it up.....what if you suddenly had a very sick Leo and had to pay a big vet bill?

Again, it was not a very kind comment, but in a small way, I agree.......take the time to just enjoy your dear Hektor, and wait until things are a bit more stable to add a new addition to the family. :)

You seem a very kind person, and I think you will make a great "Beardie mom" some day.....just make the sure the time is right before you get one.

I do want more lizards but i never said now. That is why i am researching a beardie, i want more leo's and that is why i want to learn more before i just wake up one day and say "hey i am going to start breeding leo's"(no offence to the breeders). I am as curious as a kitten and as stubborn as people come but when it comes to my pets i care. Hell when i had a car if i saw a stray dog i used to take it home and take care of it, but then i had too many so i had to get rid of some. I used to say i would never get rid of them, but i learned the pound stopped putting down as many pets as they used to..............................my point is i may be stubborn, but at least i admit it and am willing to take advice..............wether i agree or not i still take it.

I understand that......and like I said, I can tell that you truly care about your critters. I was just trying to put a "positive spin" on the crappy feedback you got, lol. Perhaps I wasn't very successful at it either, but I tried. ;)

I rarely come on this forum anymore so i don't know what your talking about but if you have any questions i'm more than willing to answer them. My email address is [email protected]

Evelyn,

Comments like that truly get under my skin. That's the reason that I more or less stopped posting on Kingsnake as much as I had in the past because of people who think that people who come to the forums and ask questions about the animals that they have should be burned at the stake.

Although any of you can correct me if you would like, but weren't forums and message boards created to help share information back and forth? To help people figure out what they are doing right or wrong, help share ideas and scientific findings?

If those are still the reason that this place was created, then you are in the right place, Evelyn. As well as all the other people who care about their animals enough to be here. If you didn't care about your animals at all, I doubt that you would have reseaarched and found out what you were doing wasn't necesarily the smartest thing that you could have done. But you learned from it. I think that is something called.. umm what's it called.. oh yeah, a Mistake.

I think I'm going to stop typing right now, before I offend anyone, lol.

Not sure what went on but there is alot of free info on the web, Marcias care sheet is awsome- http://www.goldengategeckos.com/care.html

A friend of mine has edometriosis, she hasn't had to much problem with it mainly had have it cleaned out(d&c) every year or so. Its not really a parasite though, more like a tissue buildup in the wrong place it doesn't eat away the uterus. Hers actually cleared up after she had her first child.
best of luck to you hope it is not the cervical cancer.

There are many horribly written leo books out there. Seeking advice on forums such as this and reading on-line care sheets are preferable to following the guidence given in some of these books.

If you do want a reference book to have on hand and don't mind buying used, you can find good deals on books. The The general care and maintenance of leopard geckos and African fat-tailed geckos by Philippe De Vosjoli is a great and inexpensive reference guide. There is a used version selling for $4 on www.amazon.com

Just like any animal, a leo can get sick and require medical attention. Whenever you're able to, it would be a good idea to try to put a little money away. This way if something did come up, you would have a reserve to draw on.

The person that wrote that in your Karma Points, truly is the person with the problem. If the person has no desire to help on the forums they don't need to participate. I have no idea what post of yours, would trigger such a negative response but it was uncalled-for.

EXACTLY. I don't think I could've said it better. WHY someone would take the time to leave such rude feedback--but not be willing to take 30 seconds to answer your question(s) or direct you to an appropriate resource is really disturbing.

Josh, that's a great point. I wish more people would answer "yes" to that.

Evelyn, I hope things make a turn for the better for you. Don't let the BS get you down. Researching in books may be one option, but I personally appreciate other people's views and real-life experiences a little better. They seem to be more understandable and applicable most of the time. Besides, books can become outdated really fast. Best of luck if you decide to get a bearded. You're starting in the right place. :)

the only sad thing there is that this person obviously has no respect for themself, nor the people on this forum, to write that cowardly remark, and not even post your name with it...i cannot stand people like that..im sure that person was just as clueless when they where a newb, just like all of us where

i agree with what paul said, why not take 30 seconds out if your life to help someone, insted of making them feel like thay are dirt.

evelyn, we are all here for you, you can ask whatever question you would like, no matter how stupid it may sound to you, lol, we are all here to help

I wouldn't worry about it either, we all have to start somewhere and learn from every source we can. Just take rude comments with a grain of salt and forget about them!
