In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Today while I was cleaning out the rack system, freshening water and making sure everyone was all set bedding wise I noticed something off about my Genetic Stripe Male. He had just finished his shed, so I pulled that out and threw it away and then removed him from his tote to inspect him over.

I should add that I've had him for a year and a half now and never have noticed any sort of problem, he is flawless, perfect stripe and black edging, no kinks, very active and healthy. . .

Today I noticed about 3/4 of the down his body, he has this odd bulge - as if he has a bone inside of him, going the wrong way. It pushes against the skin on either side, and is slightly movable, I hardly touched it and it "flipped" and was then protruding from his belly side but not so noticeable on top. I gently grazed it again and it went back to a horizontal position.

It was moderately solid, and I'm just concerned.

Note: I'm new to the hobby, have participated in the hobby for about two years now so there are still many things I have not experienced or encountered and I need a bit of help. . .if this is a silly question I'm really sorry.

Is it possible he had a rough shed and broke a rib? Considering this is such an expensive animal, an X-ray may be beneficial, although I'm not sure what kind of cast they can put a snake in to mend a broken bone?

O.O
Oh my gosh! That can happen?!
I'm in a media and coding class right now, but should be home in about 2.5 or 3 hours and I will take a picture and post it too.

Yeah, I will certainly post a pic here in about three hours once I get home and out of class. Now I am even more concerned . . .

Well, I'm home - I'm working on uploading the pictures but here is what I've noticed about him that seems different than when I had recently looked him over.

Normally, he is very active and hard to take pictures of because he is moving around so much, even handling him he is trying to crawl everywhere. When I went to look him over a few moments ago, he was nearly limp in my hands, not holding at. It was as if he had no muscle tone. I checked both pupils to make sure they were both the same in size, as I know this can often lead to defining issues.

He simply acts lethargic and. . .goofy. I can't even describe it. As well, the kink is still present, and everything behind it seems not to work.

Sounds like he broke something, and hopefully not his back. I would take him to the vet ASAP and get an X-ray. Don't touch him, at this point treat it like a spinal injury, so utmost caution is required.

I don't even know of any herp. vets in my area. . .and I really can't figure out how he would have broken something. He was fine before he went into shed, I fed (f/t) a few days before he came into a heavy shed, and he was fine, acting normal.

really for an xray you dont need a herp vet. Just get him to your local vet and get an xray they will be able to tell asap if something is broken. If the results show nothing then take the pics to a specialist.

Hopefully its not a break. From what I understand a break is very difficult to deal with in a snake because you cannot immobilize them in any efficient manner. I hope that it isn't a break. I tend to think that it might be something other than a break though because of the change in behavior; the behavior indicates that something is definitely wrong and that he needs to go in. I really hope that you get everything figured out.

Hey guys, thanks first of all for all of your fast responses and help. I would not have been able to tackle this without your help.
I apologize for having not updated this very quickly, we lost our internet connection this last week during those high wind storms and tornados that did or did not come through Michigan. Our AT&T guy came today and everything is now running smoothly.

Wyvren, my G. Stripe BP is doing great now. Back to normal and ready to eat today. It ended up being a large, very large I should say, blockage. He was constipated, but the block was causing such an amount of pressure on his spine that he was having a lot of problems moving and clinging with his muscles.

Again, I just wanted to say that I appreciate all of your time very much and I will work on posting that image again and making it stay this time, so that it can be used for future reference. It may not have been a break or tumor, but I've spoken with a few local breeders - gas build ups and blockages are nothing to mess with.

Thank you!
Susan
