In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Mark Venhorst nearly ruined my business

I admitted I was wrong to everyone here and I apologized to Mark. I was out of line and I admit it. There's nothing more I can do to satisfy everyone. I'm sorry.

Robert, you shot yourself in the foot with your behavior, and that may well impact you far beyond your failed transaction with Mark. A lot of people check the BOI before buying or selling, and Robert Sleigh - aka rasleigh76 - you've shown yourself to be a person that absolutely loses your :censored: over relatively minor issues.
Even before Mark showed the complete email exchange, I commented that I felt he made the right choice...now I'm convinced of it.

With all due respect, its not like he strung you along for months, or even weeks. Did he drop the ball by not getting them to you by the 4th? YES.. But really thats about it. And he sent an email saying what happened. But again, had you not put the cart before the horse it certainly wouldnt have been THAT big of a deal.

This is basically what I was going to say. A bad guy thread stating that he RUINED your business? And Talking about the BBB? All because he couldn't make cages for you fast enough because you went ahead and ordered dragons before you had your ducks in a row? Sorry, I don't see how this makes Mark a bad guy. I can see how you can be dispappointed that stuff didn't happen by the 4th. But really, when you are ordering stuff like this, you've gotta realize that this is not bestbuy.com and delays happen. Especially at this very busy time of the year. He gave you a full refund when he realized he was not going to be able to do things fast enough for you. How is that not professional? The title of this thread is entirely undeserved and based on that ALONE, I would never sell a thing to you because even if things were mildly backed up and I issued you a refund you'd probably STILL slander my name out of spite. And don't even get me started on the emails.

I talk to Mark every other month and have for the past... however many years I have been attending hamburg. I have a nice set of racks from him which i personally love. He isn't a bad guy. He will talk to you, explain things to you, even if you aren't buying anything from him, just to help. He has had thousands of transactions and when you do, you are ALWAYS going to have a few unhappy customers no matter WHAT. You are occasionally going to make a mistake. It happens. Hard for me to believe that people would think Mark is a bad guy when we have so much REAL scum out there that actually deserves the bad guy title and negative attention.

I admitted I was wrong to everyone here and I apologized to Mark. I was out of line and I admit it. There's nothing more I can do to satisfy everyone. I'm sorry.

That was before we saw those emails, and your horrible behavior in them. That was one heck of an unprofessional hissy fit. :NoNo: There's usually a reason OPs won't post all the emails surrounding a transaction ... I guarantee this thread has done more to damage your reputation, than it has to damage Mark's. I 100% agree with his decision to refund, and then run screaming from you.

I'm sorry, I come from a military family. I served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. I expect people to conduct business with a certain degree of professionalism.

Veteran or not, that street does go both ways, man.

Wow.... additional emails brought more clarification. I agree with his decision to refund and wash his hands of the situation.

Hopefully people take warning on how to and how to "not" behave... especially when trying to establish a name for yourself in this industry.

Wow, threatening a lawsuit, BBB and dept of ag, then demanding the order finished and half off another?? No thank you.

Mark made the right choice by refunding the OP and washing his hands of the problem. That $$$ was not worth it.

What a tantrum.... :shootfoot

Get your ducks in a row, and all the housing/caging in place BEFORE you commit to animals.

Poor planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on someone else.

I will agree with Harold...I normally do not chime in on the boi but I really hate it when people jump the gun and put bad guy threads on here without merit...I am sure individuals do not care but a person with a business does...I had a Mr. Lucus put a bad guy thread about me a ways back that was totally bogus...he never even apologized to me after he said he was...these post on the boi do not go away...you can even put a business or individual name in google and guess what comes up? Yes the bad guy thread...this hurts people's name and reputation because these people jump the gun and make bad guy threads on them...when 99% of the time if angry people would pick up the phone and make a call or have some patience the two parties can work it out that way... instead of smearing people's name...the boi is for real issues and scams...so please people think before you post as you make be hurting someone without merit....

I do not always agree with 100% of Mark's practices, however, I have 15 of his PVC cages and am planning on another 3 as well as racks. The initial group of caging was missing the lighting, which he promptly shipped out. One of the pieces was mis-cut, which he also replaced. For the quality, money, and lead time on my cages, I was quite satisfied.

I will also echo the sentiments of some others here. When I ordered my caging, all of my animals were either in their old enclosures or not large enough to require the cages I ordered. I would not even consider purchasing animals which I could not house. He could not have your caging delivered when you needed it, and it was apparent that the delay was unacceptable to you, so he sent you a very prompt refund. I don't see a bad guy here.

He admitted his mistakes, and he says he appologized directly to Mark for being that way. Clearly he was WAAYYy out of line but he's done exactly what a reasonable, decent human being should do when they make a mistake. Lets all move on to the 99% of other guys that arent as contrite. :D

After reading the title of this thread and the e-mails an apology isn't going to magically fix things. The op seems like a nightmare to deal with. Sellers beware.

Yes, Mark dropped the ball, in his lack of communication & response time; however ... the OP was completely unprofessional in his emails. I would have done the same as Mark and refunded his money.

I really don't know how anyone has had a good experience with Boamaster Mark Venhorst. We ordered two sets of his four foot bearded dragon cages with spacers, dividers, and screen tops on Nov. 17. We paid using paypal, got an invoice via email, automated of course, and that was all we heard from him. After hearing nothing at all from him for a week, we tried to contact him to check the status of our order. After three days of not answering or returning our calls and emails, Nov. 27, my wife finally got him on the phone. He told her that he had to order some parts and they had just come in. My wife and I both explained to him that we had a time crunch and we needed the order sent asap. He said he would get everything together and ship it Dec.3 or 4. Then we couldn't get a hold of him again. Dec.4 he sent me this:

I will let you know in am
Can't access now
Sorry I had 2 shows back to back and no time in between
When i got back in had to spend 2 days gettin all animals straight
We re good to go now
I will check on your order in am
Sorry for your experience
It is not typical

Thanks
mark Venhorst

I guess the shows slipped his mind when he spoke to my wife and he didn't have time to let us know even though we told him that if we didn't get our order in time we could lose all of the bearded dragons we had waiting to be shipped before the winter weather. Fortunately, this was not the case, but it did require more money on our part. I sent him a couple of emails letting him know that we did not appreciate his utter lack of professionalism....so he cancelled our order and sent us a refund. To the best of my knowledge, Mark made no effort to even start my order, yet his reason for cancelling was that he felt he could not make me happy. Unfortunately for Mark, the refund did not cover the expenses we incurred because of him nor did it cover the bulbs, domes, and fixtures I bought specifically for his cages that I will no longer need because the cages I'm getting now don't require them. I spent almost as much on supplies for those specific cages as I did for the cages themselves. No, Mark Venhorst is not a good guy. Good guys do not conduct business this way. But he will continue to do business this way until soomeone does something about it. If you've had similar problems with Boamaster, don't just look turn the other cheek, you can report him to the Better Business Bureau or even more effective, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer services. Thanks for taking the time to read this post and pass this on to everyone you know before this happens to them.

Rob Sleigh

I dealt with Mr Venhorst, very quick to take money, very slow to send product. Does not respond to emails. Will not do business with him again.

Look, you people have no idea what my family is going through right now. The issue with Mark came along at the wrong time. I lost my cool in a couple of email. I made a mistake. You people drag this on and on. Tear me apart. Mark and I have spoken several times. We're good. He understood my plight. You guys are dragging my name through the dirt without a care. You have no idea what it's like to be in my situation. To become a side note in your own home. It took and emotional toll on me. I cracked in an email, I apologized, I did everything a decent person can do here. I apologized here on the forum, apologized repeatedly to Mark, admitted I was wrong, and I've completely screwed myself in something I always wanted to do. I don't want any part of this anymore. And that's not enough? I've done all I can to satisfy you all. I don't owe you anything more. Maybe in the future you people should try and understand, I dedicated five years of my life to my country, honorably, and I'm not the same now as I was before. You were all so quick to make allowances for Mark, but none for me. I made a mistake, I apologized to the only person that really matters here and we're good. So you people just go ahead and keep dragging this on at my expense because yes, I'm a real bad guy!

Robert

Do yourself a favor and stop posting. We get it.

You had every right to be annoyed at the situation. You just didn't have the right to lose your mind to the level you did. Your repeated "Screw you...you don't know what I've been through" posts are not helping. You are the one keeping this going at this point. You are also the only one who continues to incur damage to their reputation with each post

You apologized....you and the seller are good...hopefully you learned a lesson about self control and can move on. Situation resolved.

Stick a fork in this one...it's done!

A+. Mark's is also not the only opinion that matters. Please don't also make the assumption you are the only vet that is in the industry or board for that matter. Also please do not also make the assumption that you are the only person that is having a hard time right now, or has in the past.

The apology counts. Owning up counts. Just move forward. Don't give up your want and/or need to be a part of this hobby. Our responses are constructive criticism to allow you to change your potential reactions in the future.

Thank you for your sevice Robert.

But, you arent the only one with problems. You should've chilled out before sending that email. I wasnt going to reply but your continous 'poor me' posts are really irritating to me. EVERYONE has problems. If your problems are that life altering then maybe you should see a shrink.

wow! I will keep this in mind when I get ready to buy cages or racks. Sorry that happened to you. Thanks for the consumer advice.

That's what you got out of the 76 posts in this thread?????

Wow!

I think we are making the same face. :shrug01:

Mark was actually not the bad guy in this particular thread. The OP was unreasonable and did not plan ahead, then tried to shift undue blame on the seller. Mark made a good choice by refunding the OP and washing his hands of it.

And Robert, you gotta drop that "poor me" attitude. Everyone has problems. I work with combat veterans that have 10 times the problems you claim to, yet they show their strength by not using it as a crutch.
