In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi there :)

I've researched the two quite a bit and I tend to get mixed views on the MBK and mostly positive about corns. I either read that MBK's are horrible little brats and that corns are a much better choice or that they're just as docile, friendly, and easy to hold as a corn, maybe even better. As far as my preference, I'd really rather have an MBK. They're just so much more beautiful to me and I love their body and head shape. But, in the long run, I want a snake that I can handle/hold a lot and won't be a pain to take care of. The guy I'm looking to get an MBK from said the 3 year old male he has is very tame and docile and that his 6 and 3 year olds can hold him no problem. No musking, nipping, anything like that.

So I guess the question is: Does it matter more on the individual snake itself? Or is one really better than the other?

Lianne,
As someone who keeps and breeds both Nigritas and Corns, I have cast my vote for the Nigritas. Although a boa guy at heart, I do keep a handful of colubrids. The Nigritas are by far my favorite. Their sleek black scales make them the most beautiful of all the colubrids - IMHO.

I keep babies through adults and in my experience, they are one of the calmest of all of the kingsnakes. They are easily handled, rarely musk, and have a very nice disposition. I'm sure that there will be others who disagree, but in my opinion, they are the corn of the kingsnake world.

I know this is a little off topic but I'm still getting everything ready for the new guy and I have a few questions to ask conerning what I'm purchasing.

I'm planning on buying the ZooMed Repti Temp 500R to control the temp in the cage but how effective/non-effective is it? I really can't afford a Herpstat or Helix at the moment but I don't want to be buying anything that could potentially make things dangerous for the snake. Also, I know that any kind of sand substrate could cause impaction if ingested but what if I feed the snake off of the sand? I'm planning on using an old storage container, cutting a hole out of the side, and putting the mice in there when it's feeding time. I'd also like to put a branch in there for him to climb but I'm wondering if he'll use it.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I'm definately going with the MBK :) He's just way to gorgeous to pass up and he's pretty reasonably priced too.

Here's a photo of him

I agree with the above. While both are great animals, the MBK is one of my favorites. "Poor mans Indigo" to some, but a great species anyway. They are voracious eaters, good temperments, yet keeping a manageable size.

My MBK started off a little musky, but never displayed a bit of aggression. She never musks anymore, and she's one of my favorite snakes to handle. Kings have a rep for being more flighty in hand than corns, but both of my kings are generally mellower handling snakes than the majority of my corns. I can't really recommend one over the other though. MBKs and corns are both easy to keep, both have good temperaments, and they're beautiful animals.

I have a pair of hatchling MBKs. they are a little jumpy but not any worst then a baby corn. I have only been bitten once and that was when i was hanging a pink( the tail on pink was about .5 inchs long) then snake missed and barly tagged me. The bite was not worst then a baby corn. To tell the truth if i had to pick one it would be hard. but you made a good choice with the MBK.

Hmmmmm........ come into a Kingsnake forum and ask which is a better choice? OF COURSE AN MBK!!! LOL
