    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So, I was thinking about my long and sorted journey through the Herpetocultural world (I won't say how long, but Amel Burmese hatchlings were selling in the 4-5 digit range, amel Corn Snakes were wholesaling over $100.00 each, and, yes I do own the first issue of Vivarium which I bought off the rack!) and was thinking about some of the breeders that inspired me and mentored me. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences? And do you mentor others now?

Also what got you started in "the biz"?

In my own case it was, the first amel Cal King I ever saw at a local pet store, which got me hooked. From there I began to seek out private breeders and happened to luck out by stumbling onto the likes of Steve Hammack over at HISS, and Bob Applegate. Yes, admittedly, I started as a snake guy, but hey we all have to start somewhere. Both of these individuals, were open and honest in their sharing of ideas and their successes and failures as well as allowing me to work with them maintaining their collections and such.

They also planted the seed that we need to give back to this unique culture we are invoved in, by sharing what we have learned and inspiring others who are just begining or might be in need.

Just curious what other's experiences were...
