Girls love the word "snarky". Overshadowing? Pulease. I mentioned something no one else did. I threw my two cents in, as did you. Does my "snarkiness" invalidate my ppint because you guys don't like my attitude?

Chris, I never said that it invalidated your point. Never once did I say that. If you choose to want to believe that, then that's on you. You have valid points, you almost always have valid points, as I have said. I also said that you make posts that I agree with (but you chose to overlook that, and go straight to the fact that you're being downright smart-assed these days), but your attitude (hell, your snarkiness...Heaven forbid I'm a FEMALE that likes that word. ) makes it difficult to like your posts.

If that's the only thing you got out of my post, then fine. I couldn't care less. But I figured a little helpful criticism couldn't hurt you, since it's coming from someone else and the way they see things. You're a grown man and have every right to think, and behave the way you want. That's not going to change the fact that I do enjoy reading your posts, but I don't enjoy the total sarcasm that drips from almost every post you make.

I was clearly talking about a snake big enough to eat rats, in which case he could easily find something SMALLER if the appropriate size was not available. My point was cut and dry. You downplayed that by referencing a hatchling, which obviously has no choice but to eat what it can handle. I get that and so does everyone in this community. While not intentional I am sure, your post came off a bit condescending. If you found my response abrasive, I don't deny that it was a bit. That being said, you have my sincerest apology. I respect you and your contributions here. I am sorry if I offended you...sincerely.

I think a slight bit of miscommunication may have been in play which allowed a certain amount of misperception.

Not sure if it is the case or not, but keep in mind some snakes are picky, in regards to the "feed it multiple mice" comment. Some eat rats, some eat mice, some eat both. I have examples of all of these. I've had hatchlings that refuse everything but pink rabbits and chicks. I have a few customers who have balls that only take black or dark colored rats. Also keep in mind that not all local stores where the seller could theoretically get rodents keep all sizes of rodents in stock or can even get them since I assume we are talking live. If the only stores around the seller are big box stores, most of the rats I usually see there are already mediums +, if not "large." Just playing Devils advocate. I don't know if that is the situation.

I think the point that many people are making is that the seller didn't even go look. Had he bought a mouse that was then rejected, and then reported trying to find a medium rat that would be a different situation.
And the OP, instead of suggesting and urging these possibilities, tried instead to get the snake for cheap, to her own advantage.

This is where this whole thing lost credibility. If you are going to call someone out as a bad guy, basing it on incomplete information, then claim you weren't looking for a discount. Your original message said it all - It was a haggle game that you saw that you could work to your advantage. A bad seller would NOT disclose the fact it was off food. A bad guy WOULD tell you the snake weighs 1500-2000 grams and send you a 700 gram animal. A good guy owns up to the history of an animal and offers transparency - which was done. As Andy said, ball pythons are finicky. I have one that for the longest time would ONLY eat dark rats. No idea why, but it is what it is. The other side of the story is, if you have a ball that is or was on rats, giving it a mouse could give it a cause to go back to being JUST on mice, which is harder on adults. . . just my thoughts.

Every single one of us without exception, even the goodest of the good guys, makes mistakes. If we make one and own up to it, and don't repeat it, I think people are a lot more likely to forgive and move on than if we dig in our heels and try to justify our errors.
I don't think it is doing the seller any favors by trying different ways to explain away a mistake.
He should have tried to get a feeder and just offered it. And I'm thinking he will never let this happen again.
