In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Got a reply on my wanted BRB finally, said he had exactly what I wanted, except a WEBSITE and REFERENCES. I didn't paypal him, but I wanted to warn others! (I know it seems obvious, but I almost didn't think of it, being so excited about getting an adult male BRB).

Am I missing the point of this bad guy post? You state this individual is a bad guy because he responded to your request for a BRB, says he has what you were looking for, but does not have a website or references?

How does this make him a bad guy, perhaps I'm missing something?!

Thanks...

-Okay, sorry to seem rude. However, why was this even posted on the BOI? Please tell me he was not a bad guy, simply because he had no website or references? He did seem questionable at least right?? Even if that was the case, the thread should be entitled (joe schmoe..... questionable transaction??) or something like that...

I was following the suggested "Bad guy/good guy" thing in the BOI rules.

Perhaps "Shady Guy" is more descriptive- but I'm pretty sure it's just some guy emailing people saying he has whatever they want so they can paypal him and not hear back, ever. I'd be suprised if his email still works.

Well, there are many upstanding breeders and reptile owners who trade and sell without having websites.... and there are crooks who DO have websites. Did he write something suspicious or demand you to pay, sight unseen? Just wondering what the communication was like... ?

Well, he said he had no website but was working on that, had no references because he was just getting started, but the kicker was, he had no pictures of the animals because he owns no camera.

What snake breeder can't give a *single* reference, and can't even snag a digital camera from a buddy?

Perhaps I am being overhasty, but I am pretty sure if I'd have paypaled him he'd never have come through with a snake.

Yes, those are probably "red flags" but not enough reason to label him a bad guy. Remember, innocent until... :)

Regards

Fine fine fine:

Mikey is a <strike>BAD</strike> SHADY guy who needs to buy a camera and a website and ask his boss or someone to be a reference.

(But I won't be his first one!)

Well, I'd have to agree with you, you're being overly hasty. You shouldn't post a "bad guy" thread unless you've had a definitive bad experience with this person, say that this guy had taken your money and not sent you anything, or sent you a sick snake, or whatever.... The experience you had made you suspicious, but despite modern technology, a lot of people still don't have digital cameras or even a whole lot of access to computers. This doesn't necessarily make this person a "bad guy".

Instead of posting a "bad guy" thread, you might have instead posted an inquiry about this person asking if anyone else has done business with him. When a person prematurely say "bad guy", the person tends to be discounted on this forum... just something to remember....

-Ive read thru the BOI multiple times. I must admit that is a common problem. From now on, when something seems odd to you, just ask around by doing an inquiry. NEVER say there bad untill you can prove it.

I think that this should have been a simple inquiry post. There was no need to lable him good, bad, or shady. After the inquiry, they others can tell you everything they know? It is just a more appropriate way to handle a situation like this.

wed sites

Over the past year, I've bought a LOT of reptiles over the internet from private breeders and a few pet shops. Some have web sites and some don't. So far, every one of my transactions went smoothly. The things I look for are a working phone number, a working e-mail address, and photos of the animals. How fast the person responds back and how helpful he/she is also factors in. But I wouldn't buy from anyone without photos of the animal. That, to me, is a red flag. If they have access to a computer (to post an ad), I'm sure they can get access to a digital camera to post a photo. Yeah, I think you jumped the gun by posting a "bad guy" thread just because he doesn't have a web site......but I would ask for those photos. Just my opinion...

This guy was trying to sell Ca. native reptiles that are NOT allowed to be sold in Ca. I informed him by PM and another member did so in that thread. He never did anything to change it or acknowledge that he did or did not know it was illegal.

I have also inquired about a couple of his ads and have gotten no responce.

Something is VERY fishy with this guy.

well, as evidenced by my IM conversation, and the email exchanges with boavoyage (link on a previous post in this thread by boavoyage), there is something fishy. my interpretation is that he is AT BEST, trying to broker animals - maybe even trying to run a sell before buying deal (I see this advertised here ,lets see if I can sell it for more over there). at worst he is scamming people - note the differences and similarities in his stories. I wouldn't risk my money.

Also, when I sent him the link to the inquiry mentioned above, he could have responded...either to me or officially on the thread. didn't happen. and when I questioned whether he even had the animals (that I was trying to purchase) in his possession, he just ceased communication.
