    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

MITES... I think (please help)

there are some mites that only feed on lizards, and some that only feed on snakes. A python I bought had mites (unnoticeable at the show, probably only carrying eggs or one or two little ones from a different animal). My boa and kingsnakes were quickly infested, even though they were in a different part of the house. My dragons, kept in the same cage (two story cage, no, they were not housed together) never had a mite on them, nor did my leo.

yeah, i understand what your trying to say, but think about it. beardies, can live on a strict diet of insects, and thats all a leo eats. if there healthy they can just eat the mites. the only time ive ever seen mites on an insectivoreous reptile is when there really weak to begin with. like wild cought. but also as i said this is in my expereance. and again, i have memerable years.

Reptile mites are...well, reptile mites. They can and will feed on any living reptile. There is no such thing as an "iguana mite" or a "leopard gecko mite". I personally have had success with Black Knight "roach killer". This product is currently not in production, and the dealers that do have it are hoarding it. Thankfully, I have no mites, and half a can of BK. Provent-a-mite has been recommended and used with some success. If the creatures in question are not infesting your frog, I doubt they are reptile mites, or even mites in general. Reptile mites NEED to feed on the blood of a reptile, and presumably an amphibian. If they are avoiding contact with your frog, chances are they aren't a serious problem. Still might want to get rid of them though, because the only life you want flourishing in your frog tank is...well, your frog.

Keep in mind, Black Knight (if you can even get ahold of it now) is not to be recommended for use on amphibians (at least by me). Amphibians soak up much more through their skin than reptiles do. So please use discretion, and try other methods with your frog (i.e. making sure your frog is mite free, and THOUROUGHLY cleaning it's cage).

Mites are a serious problem, and NEED TO BE ERADITCATED! Take all necessary actions to rid your collection of mites! If the little creatures (if they are white, they are probably not reptile mites) are mites, they will quickly (mites can travel up to 40 ft. per hour) infest your entire collection!

And Nevin, soaking snakes in vegetable oil is a horrible way of getting rid of mites! Please, find another way.

Hope my suggestions helped, if just a little.

Thanks Abhishek. I completely cleaned out his tank yesterday, I think whatever they where they are gone (I'm pretty sure they were baby crickets). It really scared me to look in his tank and see so many discusting things running around. I really hate bugs. Are there are there any precautions to take to keep mites away (besides a clean tank :( ). I am up in Canada, are mites pretty uncommon? Where do they come from if not other animals? I know what to look for now, thanks again.

Wow am I ever glad that they weren't actual mites. I really had no idea of the damage they could do.
