    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hey everyone. I'm new at this snake thing, and my cali-king has mites. Does anyone have any advice on the easiest way to rid my poor little guy of these??????

Two commercially available products that work are Provent-a-Mite and Reptile Relief.

Provent-a-Mite has the added advantage of being residual, but you have to follow the directions exactly. While in it's gaseous state it is harmful to reptiles.

Reptile Relief can be sprayed directly on reptiles (although I'm not willing to try that myself).

Until such a time as you are able to get one of these products, completely clean the enclosure and all cage accessories, use paper towels, or something easily changed as bedding, and soak your snakes for 20 minutes in tepid water with a little mild dish soap added.

The soap helps to break down the mite's exo-skeleton which allows them to drown. Repeat the soaking every day for a couple of days. This will remove most of the mites. The sprays will help to eradicate whatever is left including any eggs they may have laid.

Once you have gotten rid of the mites, watch the cage closely for another 30 days for any remaining eggs that might hatch.

Good luck.

There are several methods...

You can soak them in shallow, warm water that has a few drops of dish washing liquid in it. While they are soaking, breakdown the cage set-up and clean everything with 1:10 ratio of bleach/water. Rinse it well and use newspaper or paper towels on the floor until the mites are eradicated. You could keep soaking the snake and cleaning the cage for two weeks or I like to use Proventamite Spray. It works well and allows you to spray all of the cage furnishings (except the water bowl).

Thank you so much for the info!!! I took him out, sprayed him down and put him in a separate container, then i sprayed down the cage and all of the furniture with mite-off and then hot soapy water. Hopefully he's all better. I'll just have to keep an eye out.
