Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

this man is out of his mind, that site was put up months ago, i was the moderator on the skink forums, but this was even back when i hated this man and his piece of crap work

Apology accepted I mean I am fat, I do have a lot of reptiles, but I don't claim to run a rescue to try and get free animals so I can get a breeding facility up and running(Lord knows I have had enough put into my care in the last year that I probably could, However the only herps I really have that I really want to breed are my corns.) BTW anybody catch the snake hooks he showed at his "facility" Them's modified paint rollers ya'll!

In the meantime, I have reported MnJ to the appropriate state authorities here in Virginia regarding their self-representation as both a corporation and a non-profit entity. A search of the state databases does not contain a record of either. Unless one of these agencies decides to come down on them, we are pretty much stuck.
The best we can hope for is to get the word out. Herpers should let their own forums know, and I am going to try to contact Larry Kenton and let him know that these two should not be allowed to vend at his shows here in VA and MD.

I am not sure what to think guys.
I talked to Nick on the phone friday. He really seems to have a big heart. I did not get the feeling he wanted to sell the rescues. I did bring up the fact that he is putting a few boas that were rescued in one cage. Saying they all should have their own. YOu know the basics.
I brought up he should seperate the rescue and the breeding. I think he understood what I was saying.
I also brought up the false info on his vids. He took down the venomous snake bite vid. The other vids this is what he was taught. That is what he told me. I talked to him for awhile. He wants to make his vids fun. That is what I took out of it. But I also told him he can make them fun and get out the right info. Becuase bottom line is the younger crowd likes his vids. this could be a great thing if he could turn it around and give out great info you know?
I am not defending him. I really hate the bad info. I told him this. But I also did not call him names. He was very respectful to me on the phone. Never once calling me a name.
I told him his emails were bad. And he said somethings people sent to him were bad. I agreed that they were.
I take it from people that the problem with the vids are bad info. If he could correct this that would be a HUGE step IMO.
Now about the rescue and the breeding. He told me he wants to do both. I stressed that it had to be seperate. For safty of the animals and ethic reasons.
But he did take down the venomous bite vid. And I think he understood where I was coming from.
Now if it is fact he is rescueing snakes and then turning around and selling them...... I would not be a happy camper. I am not sure this is happening. But again I stressed to him that getting a bad name in this hobby will prevent him from vending shows or even simply buying animals at shows. It was a long talk.

Gary, thats cool that you took the time to try and help the situation. its tough for me, i try to be helpful and say the right things to the guy but then he does something that just aggravates the hell outta me and it just feels like im wasting my time. i thing the guy is torn between really enjoying the hobby and really enjoying the attention he gets on youtube. like his heart is in the right place but his ego is a bit too big at times. i think his main problem is rushing through things a bit much. only time will tell how things turn out i suppose.

Kudos to you for trying to communicate with Nick. However, Nick is only one-half of this scheme. Mike has a video where he blatantly says that a boa that came to him as a "rescue" is going to make a great breeder.
They may have good intentions deep down, but it does not justify using craigslist (or any other method) to deceive people into giving up animals to be used as breeding stock or to generate revenue.
It is true that counties in Virginia have begun to re-examine laws regarding reptiles due to some recent incidents. I lived in Arlington for five years, was employed by the county, and kept several reptiles within county jurisdiction without incident. I support the citizen's right to stand up to government if something seems unfair, but I believe the effort has to be organized and not led by a lone, bumbling idiot with little to no knowledge of proper husbandry.
The reason that I am taking this so seriously is because I feel that people such as Mike and Nick are a disaster waiting to happen. When incidents involving reptiles occur, it results in a lot of very bad press, both for the keeper and the hobby as a whole. Virginia, like a lot of other states, does not have any problem legislating against the hobby to keep its citizens feeling safe. These two guys scare me...Nick has a two-year-old child in his condo...does he keep hots in the same building? Does he have hots in fish tanks in his bedroom? Who knows? This is the kind of guy who would drive a couple of hours up to Hamburg, buy himself a rattler, bring it back to his condo, and call himself a hot keeper. In all honesty, Gary, this guy scares me on multiple levels, for the safety of his toddler, the safety of his neighbors, and the rights of the hundreds of responsible keepers who live here.
Nick may or may not have hots in his condo, but he's not trustworthy. In one of his videos, he shows a pair of snake hooks hanging on the wall in their "snake room." The hooks are barely 9" long!
Call me pessimistic, but I can see something with Nick and Mike going terribly wrong, and because they are unbelievably desperate for attention, it will cause a lot of very bad publicity. Will it be the reason Virginia says "no more?" It might...

I agree 100% that there is somethings they need to change. They need to do it, no if ands or buts. I missed Mike saying that but I am sure he did. I brought up using rescues as breeders to him also. That does not mean he will not do it......
Also I agree 100% about being dangerous to the hot community and the community as a whole. I am a hot keeper as many know. If he does it right though then I see no issues. But he has to do it right.
But I also feel sitting here calling him names and what not is not fixing or even trying to fix the situation at hand. It does nothing for the hobby. But if I can call Nick and even have a slight effect on him that is a step in the right direction. Maybe if we go about this a different way we can turn a person that has the wrong info into a person that has the right info.
I did not contact him to change the world. I did to try to help him turn a corner back to the right side. If we like it or not he has the kids of 12 to 17 liking him and his vids. I think that is a great thing getting kids involved but I think he needs to get correct info and us as a community should try to help a bit. If he refuses our help then ok. Then I would agree that he cares more about subscribers then the hobby
But I am right there with you thinking the vids with wrong info and flying off the handle is wrong and a bad thing. I trully do. I am right there with you thinking it is wrong to breed or sell rescues. I am right there with you about doing things right in the hot world.
