Well bummer, now the scammers are off to their little fantasy world and the next time we will hear about them will be from someone they ripped off.

I think it's almost time to stop posting in this forum. It's not going anywhere anymore, we all probably have the same opinion about this pretend rescue. We just need to make sure and delete all of their postings on Craigslist and warn people on there when we have the opportunity.
 
Well, Mark, I'm feeling the same way. The truth about this 'rescue' has come out, and I'm glad that people are aware of who exactly was behind the scam.

To be honest, I doubt Mike and Nick are going to quit. I have a feeling we'll see their names again. I just hope that future 'adopters' or 'customers' drop by the BOI first and get the necessary information on these clowns.

I've been contacted by WUSA-Channel 9 news (NBC) here in DC. I spoke with the reporter who did the story on Nick, and he had this to say,

OK so I watched Mikes videos for the first time just now, did he have the name of his rescue on the vids?

I would like to keep a running tally on the names they have gone through:

VA Reptile Rescue is Bonnie and she is legit though I think she is (or has been) in the process in the process of significantly scaling back her rescue efforts. I think the confusion here is that she was helping them in some aspects of getting their shindig off the ground. I don't know how much help she has provided beyond being the only one to supposedly/actually give them permission to post some articles on their site (i.e. MnJ stole articles from other places).

It does not matter if you were using that "inc" because you all through you were going to eventually "start a business" however many years down the road... calling yourself a corporation before (or without) having filed the articles is breaking the law. Additionally, a business lic. is what needed to call yourself a business (this is separate from the whole corporation stuff). To call yourself a business when one hasn't even filed with their county for a business lic.(dba) is breaking the law. This is all common sense stuff. You do not wake up one day and say... I'm going to be a business and not do anything else other than come up with a fancy name. No one these days is so ignorant as to not know that some kind of lic. is needed to call yourself a business - unless you are an elementary school kid trying to open up a little lemonade stand on your street (even then some elem. school kids are smart enough to do their research first and get a freaking lic.).

Bonnie gave them permission for the adoption policies. From what she said to me, she is going to be leaving the reptile rescue behind.

At the beginning of the vid it showed it saying

Virginia Reptile Rescue

Then gave some comments about the rescue being legit and what not then showed the racks and cages. At the end it said thanks for supporting VRR......

Not sure. I did not see anything wrong with the name when I seen the vids. Untill I found out that is the name of another rescue.............. go figure.

Thanks to Wyvern alerting me this morning, I'm posting this as one public notice that I am in NO way affiliated with Michael, Joann, and Nick. I did try to give them some friendly advice about starting a rescue, then Michael called and spoke with me for 20+ minutes before revealing who he was. The next thing that day he'd renamed his rescue Virginia Reptile Rescue, and asked if I'd be OK with that. I most certainly wasn't OK with that. At first he tried to huff and puff about it, then backed down and said that "out of respect for me" he'd changed the name. Yeah.

I think they honestly mean well, but are so completely clueless about how to do it that they have dug themselvse into a hole too deep to climb out of. The best they can do for now is to shut up, back off, and learn more about social interactions amongst humans.

So, in a nutshell, I have notified them that they are to discontinue using any of my materials and my name. I am NOT a supporter, and am NOT affiliated. Period.

Now, just to put it on the record, I *AM* handing over my rescue to another couple here in Richmond. I will remain in the background, but they will be taking over the actual operations of the rescue. I will put more info about it on my website in the next few days/weeks.
