• In the past two days I have gotten emails asking about being requested to provide credit card info in order to register and also to make a post in the classifieds forums. PLEASE NOTE: In no instance will this site ask you for this sort of information. The only time any request for payment is made is if you choose to opt-in for a higher membership level, and that is done SOLELY through PayPal. Anything else is coming from a source other than this site. My guess is that this is coming through Google Adsense, but when I can get someone to send me a screen shot of this sort of request, I will know more.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

ok im here to ask you guys for help i will not even pretend to know about reptiles dogs yes im a breeder but other than snakes i caught and kept as a kid during the summer i am lost. my husband and i went into the pet store to buy the kids a lizard of some sort because they caught a salamander and wanted to keep it but it died.he had a cute lizard he said was a nile monitor and i was like omg i always wanted a suv monitor the guy said this one would be great he wouldnt get much bigger.... just feed him a few crickets.... well i came home and searched him and oh boy so we bought him a bigger tank and a light ( the pet store didnt have one on him) started him on some f/t pinkies so I am doing my homework we have decided to keep him and realize the huge responsibility but im not sure he is a nile I think he may be a water monitor so how can i find out if i send someone a pic can they tell me if he is a nile he is not nearly aggressive as everything says he should be i just dont know and does anyone have a recommendation on a good lizard for my kids we still want something they can handle and care for the monitor has strictly became mine for obvious reasons

first do not judge it by it's temperament. baby Niles look similar to water monitors but they have a diffrent set of patterns of spots on their backs. also baby Niles are all imports, so they are full of nasty parasites. I bought a Nile 3 years ago and I thought he was a water too because of his temperament then I had him treated for his parasites and the truth came out. Niles are not as nasty as they are made out to be. my Nile is 5'+ and I can walk into his cage and he will move out of my way and let me do my thing. he will not go for his food until I close the cage door.
 
so how do i know how do i find out exactly what he is the first time i picked him up he bit at me and threw his tail but today i picked him up and he was sooo calm he didnt do anything he lets me move things around his tank and seems ok i really like him i just want to make sure of what i got since the pet store guy gave me totally inaccurate info on what i was getting
 
Not "all" baby monitors are imports...but most are. Parasite loads can vary from animal to animal and, without knowing anything about the history of this one, it is probably not wise to suggest it is "full of nasty parasites" (just curious, is that description because all parasites are nasty, or because you think the nile has nastier ones than other animals?)

The easiest way for us to help identify your monitor is for you to post a picture of it. We can offer descriptions of the difference, but they will still sound like the same animal. You cannot make a judgement on what species it is based upon temperament, as that will vary by individual animal and according to a number of variables.
 
Sans a picture, the easiest way to tell the difference between a Nile and a water monitor is the position of it's nostrils. Water monitor nostrils are close to the tip of the snout, whereas Nile nostrils are somewhat half-way between the snout and the eyes.
Be advised that if you do have a Nile monitor, be prepared to handle it on a regular basis for the rest of its life to keep in acclimated to your presence. If you don't, there's a high likelyhood that it will revert to the typical Nile attitude (feisty and unapproachable!). Good luck!!

I HAVE A 23 INCH SAVANNA . I NO UR POST 2 LOOK WHEN THEY GO TO THE BATHROOM 2 C WHAT SEX THEY R BUT I STILL CANT TELL. SO HOW CAN U TELL.I THINK MINE IS A MALE BUT I WANNA MAKE SURE . SOME1 HELP ME
