    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

just curious as to what everyone preferred, all the different names for combo morphs or just call them what they are?

1 - keep the names / naming like it is.

2 - call combo morph by what they are ex. Bee = pastel spider ext.

3- don 't care

4- other

Thanks for any comments. Although I now the names of most I think it would be easier for new people getting into the hobby it might be simpler. I know when I look at the leopard gecko stuff (witch I know nothing) its like a foreign language.

I like having the names of morphs for simplicity... like when talking to someone else familiar with the morphs. It can be a mouthful when chatting to a fellow hobbyists to say something like "My super pastel lesser spider is growing so well!" As opposed to Killer Queen...So in in common tallk and typing, its nice to have the morph names.

BUT - I do prefer in ads and otherwise to include both. This allows newcomers interested in the hobby to know exactly what they are getting and prevents any confusion as to the genetics of the animal. Espeially for those with identical names (ie. BEL's Butter/Butter, Lesser/Mojave, etc etc etc).

I agree that in ads, it should be broken down to identify the components.....if for no other reason than too many people mix up the morph names and use them incorrectly (or make up their own when one already exists). Besides, since I'm not a total BP weenie, I have no problem admitting that I can't always keep up with all the names; and don't want to bother going to look it up to see if it's something I'm interested in purchasing.
 
It's confusing to have the morph names. I would MUCH rather have it be the components of each morph instead of only using morph names. It's VERY confusing!
 
It is just a lot easier if you just call the snake by every morph it has in it. I always see vendors at shows having to explain the different morph names to people all day long. Keeping it simple would answer most of people's questions when it comes to what a snake actually is.
 
There are some morphs that the genetics are not known or revieled. With out names what would call them? I like the nick names, but in adds it would be nice to list the genetics.
 
It should be required that ALL morphs genetics be revealed. That would be the right thing.
 
Tell that to NERD where he doesn't even know some times... Get a 4 gene female and a 5 gene male.. see what you pop out and make sure you know what is in every one.....

I think the names makes things easier to talk about. There are plenty of lists that say what each name is tied to. They should get rid of the names, but just make sure people know what is being talked about.
 
It would be less confusing if people Knew the genetic make up of each morph, is what I should have said.
 
I'm happy with combo morphs being named differantly, but agree that in an ad the components should be listed. I don't know about anyone else, but I like to window shop. I look at morphs I may not be able to purchase now and alot of them are combos that I'm not familiar with, which sends me into the ethernet doing research. Just saw an ad for a Pheonix and I was like what the &&^% is that? Thankfully the OP specified what was in it. At shows you have alot of people not familiar at all with the differant mutations, so for your own sake as a seller you should list all "ingrediants"
 
My issue with the names stems from them being misused. The names typically refer to a specific combination of traits; so, when a snake has that label, a buyer would expect to receive those traits. I'll use silver streak as an example - for those that don't know, a silver streak is a black pastel/super pastel. I have seen cinny pewters, and sterlings (cinny/super pastel) labeled as silver streaks. Usually, now that I've been working with them, the difference is pretty easy for me to identify...but it wasn't always like that. I couldn't tell the difference between black pewters and cinny pewters, so the idea of differentiating between a silver streak and a sterling would have been laughable.
Anyway, back to the mislabeled snakes - I've contacted the sellers in a few cases, and gotten a wide range of responses. In one case, the person thanked me for the information and immediately corrected the ad; 2 went without any response; 1 person berated me, and advised me to learn about morphs before making an ass of myself again; and another chose to educate me, and explained that there were several acceptable names for the combination.
Now, I understand that cinnamon and black pastels are similar, and produce similar combinations...and that some people claim they are essentially the same because of that; however, as long as the combinations are given separate names, I am of the mind that the names should not be used interchangeably.
 
Yup. I mean, when I start breeding my balls I'm going to have to say "So the parents were this and this so what morph do you think this baby is?" because I don't know ALL about the different morphs yet, but I am still learning. There are several that I can't tell the difference between, but there are also a few I do recognize.
 
I pretty much agree with most people here: I use the morph names (where they exist) because it's easier to talk about them that way, but when looking through ads, I like to see the components for the reasons mentioned here (to make sure the seller knows what he's talking about, mostly, but also for those morph combos I'm not familiar with yet).
