In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Movement of thread concerning Dan Quinn- Manhattan Herps

Just received this email from Dan not long ago:

you never told me you wanted her, all you ever said was you liked her

and there is no way i will have jungle giants available by march, eggs are not even laid yet, and since i plan on keeping most of them, i cant see this happening, sorry
An AIM Conversation on Friday morning August 26th

o0 TurkeySub 0o: im sorry i have to take your fav hatchling
Manhattan Herps1: she's not my favorite, lol just the best one
o0 TurkeySub 0o: i wish you could part with cailin too
Manhattan Herps1: lol
Here's a link to a thread you started…I'm post #7, read it.
http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73138

Here's the karma I got from you on that post
thanks buddy, but calin will be here for a long time :)
You knew I wanted her, I even said so. I did not just say I "liked" her.

Dan, I wish I had the balls to just go "hey, give me that gecko as payment, I want it." That's not who I am. But don't you go saying I didn't want her. You never had any intentions of giving her to me from the start.

Anyways, you obviously don't seem to care about your reputation much anymore. Many people are telling you how to save your reputation, and you aren't taking heed. If you just did what the general consensus is, there would not be any more of a problem and your reputation would no longer be in peril. I'd still like to see this resolved and my offer still stands, but I know it will never be fulfilled after seeing the attitude you have. I really expected more than this from you, Dan. I hope you take this thread as a kick to the butt, so that one day, when you decide to stop holding everything back and sell to people they will have the opportunity to deal with a more mature person, without the potential of having them go through what I've had to. If nothing changes after this, then I hope this thread serves as a warning and they will see who you really are behind the much more mature Fauna "façade" you have going.

From the sounds of the email, I don't think Dan has any intention of ever fulfilling his end of the bargain. I'm hoping that things will go differently, but I will be sure to let everyone know if things would change. We really appreciate the support given by strangers and my clients, so thanks everyone! I'm sorry that all of your posts seem to have fallen on deaf ears. I guess it's time to get back up, brush off the dirt, and move on.

After thinking about Dans actions and reactions throughout this thread, I have removed my endorsement of him in the BOI Good Guy Certification Forum. I'm not saying that he is a bad guy but until this issue is resolved, I would not care to give him a reference.

i have to comment on one thing i picked up on. Dan's mom is an author, so she shoud know the importance of proof reading. I am not talking about grammar and such but more of the open mouth insert foot type, and the proof reading where you catch yourself before making a butt out of yourself over and over. the more dan writes in his defense or his mother writes, it seems like the worse they are sounding in this and the better Ryan is.
It is just sad to see this happening. I hope this gets resolved in a manner that makes both parties happy, though I will not be holding my breath on this one. I do look forward to more of the open mouth insert foot type posts from Dan. Hopefully he will re read all of these and see where he is at fault here and needs to be the one to resolve things in a mature manner....and quick manner...

Likewise, I have done the same. Should this turn out to be a "bad guy" post, I will not hesitate to post a bad guy endorsement.

Actually, isn't one of the main requirements for the program that you post your certification on your webpage? If he no longer has a website, he should no longer be eligible to be a certified good guy member....

Sam,

He still has a "geocities" site up at the moment with the certificate on it. And the way he is handling this whole situation he better get used to geocities.

Wow this past year or so has seen a record number of good guys go bad. I hope it's just some kind of fluke.

I hope so but I would like to believe there is still hope here.

Dan, If there is not a resolution and believe me I don’t want to do it, but in order to keep to the same standards I hold everyone here to, I will have to remove my vote as well. It may not mean much to you but it does to me. I just can’t support someone that would treat another member of our community this way. I would like to see you post a commitment to pay Ryan x amount of dollars per week or month until this debt is paid. It would appear Ryan would welcome such an agreement and then and only then you can be done with this. If you make this commitment here on the BOI and keep to it, I will not remove my vote.

I guess here are my thoughts on a resolution. I know you don’t have the money right now. I don’t want to rely on animals from you anymore, since this is what started the issue. I’m a year behind and I’m working on finding other animals. If you give me the leos, I’m just going to sell them. I’d rather them not be double shipped/stressed and you can just sell them or others and give me the money. I’m willing to give you a lot more time here. Your Domain expires March 21st, I’ll give you until then to put the money together. I know the agreement was for animals, but I feel this is a fair resolution considering the time lapse.

Ryan made a generous offer and I would take it. You will still have your site and he will be paid for his time. Ryan must be paid and he should not be forced into waiting any longer. It’s not to late to do the right thing here. I don’t want to see another member of this site travel down his road.

I think Ryan has been incrediblely understanding and patient. I don't know how he does it. I would have spouted off something rude by now, a flaw I have. Still hoping for a good resolution on this one!

Oh boy, if that does not shed some light on this for me! If the diaper is barely off then no behavior surprises me anymore.

age shouldnt be an excuse really. I know one member on here who doesn't release their age and seems to be 30ish....nope, 14.....you'd never know it.
well i guess that person is an exception. but at 18 it is time to cut the cord and grow up and be responsible and mature....it does explain somethings but 18 is an adult....

I don't disagree but I also know that I was behaving much differently then what I do now at the ripe ole' age of 31. His age is certainly no excuse but it does help to shed some light as to why he is acting this way and as to why he had to get his mommy to come fight his fight. It also helps me become more cognitive as to pay attention to his name for future reference.

true true...
at my age (or at 18) if my mother got on here and battled for me...I'd be embarrased...of course she isnt nearly as nice as I am :dgrin:
even at 18 if I dug myself in a hole, she made me get myself out. With Dan's mom coming on here it is removing the responsibility from him...he dug this hole himself and should get out of it himself...not with the help of mom.

I don't think he is going to offer up a resolution any time soon. Perhaps in the years it takes him to mature we will see something...

Ryan,
not sure about the legalities of this so everyone please advise, but if you still have his web stie and the domain (since you paid for it) ever thought about selling the web site and name? Unless Dan registered his business name, from my understanding, anyone can use it....Maybe post it here for sale? Of course with all this who would want that company name with all the negativity attached to it.....

Unfortunately, if Dan is under-aged, it is relevent with regard to the legal status of any contracts he may enter into. It does not absolve him from his ethical responsibilities, and since he is engaged in the reptile business, is certainly valid as being representative of his business ethics, and should be considerd by all who would interact with him if they know of it. On the basis of his youth, I think it a good thing that his Mother got involved. It certainly makes it harder to excuse all by saying that Dan is just a kid making mistakes. It is possible that his Mother strongly influenced all of his actions, if not dictated them outright. Knowing that a parent is heavily engaged in the activity means that we can now consider that there was an option for the parent, who acknowledges some level of the debt, to intervene with a solution. She did not. She only put forward what had already been offered, that Ryan would have to hope to be paid later. She could have loaned some money to her son, maybe not all as she may not have it, but enough to be able to put forth a payment plan to Ryan, and then made an arrangement with her son to square it in-house. Certainly many parents take the line that when the child makes a mistake, they must suffer the consequences, so as to learn from it. She chose to endorse the position of the under-age minor, for whom she is guardian, and in my mind, removed any concern for Ryan's age, in the ethical sense, from the argumant. Fair game !!

I don't know Ryan in the least. I have been to his website a few times and have enjoyed what I have seen. It's obvious that he makes great websites.

I've known (of) Dan for a few years and never would have believed that things would happen like they did. It disappoints me that someone that I've known personally has turned his back on his obligations.

If you "own" or claim a business I believe that you should do everything within your power to satisfy your customers. If any of the people that I have done business with were unhappy and notified me, I would have bent over backwards to bring that smile back to their face.

Dan, the thing about business is the word of mouth. Even if Rich wouldn't have had the initiative to begin this forum; your (mis)dealings with Ryan would have been aired to anyone who would have listened. Ryan seems heavily ingrained in the Reptile community. I'm sure that we all would have known about how you conduct business. This is all said with one thing in mind. Word of mouth goes both ways. If you do everything in your power to make your customers happy, they will sing your praises from the top of the mountain. They will reccommend you to all of their family, friends, and associates. If you act holier than thou and don't follow through with your obligations, whether it monetarily, with livestock, or just a simple promise, then in my book you are labeled a bad guy. Not because you scammed anyone, not because you stole anyone's money, but because you didn't fulfill your promises. Dan, all we have is our word, our integrity. As Shakespeare so aptly put:

"Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none."

Please Note: I am 18 years old. Age does not have anything to do with the way business is conducted, however maturity does. That is quite obvious whenever we all read the "Bad Guy" threads where the "Bad Guy" responds.

Ya, I must say that I am shocked at how this is turning out. Although I think that you (Ryan) have been VERY patient and shouldn't have to wait anymore.

Also I agree with everyone else that Age might play alittle part, But there are young people out there that do better business then most adults!!

Thanks Erik

The company name should not affect the sale of the completed site. Very little would need to be done on Ryan's part to present it to another client. In all honesty, that's what I would do. ;)
