In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I wasnt sure where this thread belongs so...
The Army is moving my wife and I to Japan late this year and I am trying to weigh the cost/benefit of taking my BP collection with me. Does anyone know anything about the reptile scene in Japan. I've heard stories of large japanese breeders but I've yet to find anything on Google. Any stories or insight will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Japan's a pretty nice country! I took the language in high school and spent three weeks traveling the main island as part of a student exchange program. I didn't go out of my way to find herp things, wasn't why I was there, but in my experience the general public was much more accepting of pet snakes than over here.

Word of advice - if you're going to be doing a Google search for Japanese breeders then their websites are going to be in Japanese, meaning that you're going to have to type in Japanese if you want to get a hit on their text.
So I'm going to write ボールパイソン instead of ball python. Likewise I believe the majority of morphs are just written phonetically in katakana as well. EX: Clown = kuraun = クラウン or even something like Possible Het Albino = posshiburu hete arubino = ポッシブルヘテアルビノ etc etc So that makes it easy. Just searching for different morphs brings up a ton of small breeder blogs, some online stores, and even a few actual herp-centric pet stores.
Also there's different ways to write it of course, but personally I just type 販売 after whatever it is I'm shopping for if I want to see them for sale.

They have reptile and exotic expos like we do over here, clubs and the like as well. I've even seen a lot of mutations on Japanese websites that we don't yet have here in the states, so that's pretty neat!
If you already speak the language then I'm thinking you should try joining a Japanese snake forum (フォーラム) and talking to folks there. If you don't really speak it yet then maybe look for a Japanese breeder that speaks some English and ask them for help getting started on the main picture. I found a few breeders in Japan that attended expos here in America, also some websites have English translations so that's a good start... I recognized one of the sites I stumbled upon "Samurai Japan Reptiles", that guy has his main store in Ibaraki, but I see him advertise on kingsnake.com all the time. I guess he imports and knows some English.
Just things like that, gotta start somewhere. Best of luck to you both~

Autumn,
Thanks! Once I get out of Afghanistan and can use my personal computer to download those scripts I should be in buisiness. Hopefully soon... Very helpful, thanks a bunch!

If you're going to want to take your snakes with you - you'll need to apply for CITES for them now - which will take a minimum of 90 days for approval without the master file for them.

Japan has a very good reptiles scene and they get a lot of odd/different animals.

I checked out the Cites paperwork. Does anyone know which one I should apply for?
http://www.fws.gov/forms/3-200-46.pdf or http://www.fws.gov/forms/3-200-24.pdf

Also, are there any other requirements? I have found someone in Japan who will recieve my shipment. It just seems a little too easy... Is there something I'm missing? Also, any recommendations for airlines to ship them?

Thanks,
Nick
