    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Moving Up North. Caging Suggestions Needed

I've lived in south Florida for all of my life. I'm moving to North Tennessee. I've typically needed just a UTH for keeping snakes here. I realize North Tenn (30 minutes from state line) is severe, but it certainly is different than here. I'm moving in 2 months and I'd like to be prepared.

I'm thinking I may need to get a cage with a heat emitter and UTH for keeping up there. Is there any better ways that you guys use? I thought about a space heater for the room- but for 2 snakes it may be cheaper for the emitteres...

this site is terrible for help and suggestions! I posted this thread on another site- and had 5 replies in less than 10 minutes. Out of 33 people that looked at this thread- non of you live north of Florida??
 
Youll end up using alot more energy utilizing a space heater than the alternatives.

It would be helpful if we knew what kind of snakes you were keeping.

Boas- thanks. I think I have it figured out now. Radiant heat panel, herpstat nd.

I just read about oil filled space heaters. that seems like a viable option for cold nights during winter to keep the rooms ambient temp up.

I hadn't thought of those, perhaps with a small fan to circulate the air around it, it might be a good lower cost option to keep the room heat up.
 
TN isn't THAT cold haha. Cold is northern Europe, the MidWest and Canada. You'll need a UTH of some type and overtank heating, something as simple as a lightbulb depending upon your setup. Try keeping a ball python warm when the outside air is minus 80F!

Depending on the insulation, and type of glass if you have windows in the room, your main enemy will actually be ambient air temperature. If the ambient temp is low, it will require some tinkering regarding type of overtank light/heat source you use. Just make sure you have an accurate thermometer.

The Weather in North East Tennessee (in the mountains) is way different than where I've lived all my life- south Florida on the beach.

In any event, my main concern shown in this thread was ambient temps. I've worked that out with a Boaphile cage with dual Heat Panels! It's pretty sweet and keeps the ambient temps perfect with my Herpstat ND.

I've seen other threads with people asking if a RHP will keep cage ambient temps up. It absolutely will!

Like the Boaphile cases? I'm thinking of switching from glass tanks to something else that doesn't open from the top..That may be one of them..or maybe Vision cages. I just need something than can handle UTH's and won't absorb too much excretion smell due to the surface being a plastic.
 
I was between a vision and a Boaphile. I'm extremely happy with the Boaphile! It's a great cage. I will buy another when the time is due.

I always used aquariums. This is my first "snake" cage and I love it! I'm extremely happy with the RHP as well. Don't think I'll look back to UTH's.

watch craigslist. I don;t know what country you are in but I love CL. You would cry to know what I paid for the Boaphile 334 with hidden End RHP, ceiling RHP, and every other option!
