In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Every computer system on the planet does NOT have to be connected to the world via the internet. At best, perhaps a local network, but the internet can be a pretty wild and dangerous place for control machines of this nature.

Fortunately my water supply is from a well on my own property. But still, a lot of damage can be caused by malicious operators as well as planned targets for hostile nations.

Bean counters hate spending money on IT security because they don't see the need for it until it's too late.

You would think these people would learn from the voting machines that weren't connected to the internet...

Largest Beef/Pork/Poultry Producer Hit with Ransomware

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jbs-cyberattack-meat-producer-ransomware/

Glad I put a half beef and half hog in the freezer not too long ago. Meat prices were going higher anyway due to increased food/fuel costs, not being able to process critters for even a week will mean bare shelves and high prices shortly.

If you don't have a generator, get one. I would not be surprised to see an attempt on the power grid in July or August as that would cause the most damage in terms of human deaths and lost/spoiled perishable foods.

I’m getting tired with fk Russia we should bombard them and show them who’s the boss

I would guess it is more likely some other entity other than Russia involved, trying to make it LOOK like Russia is behind it all.

But in any event, gee, isn't it really cool having EVERYTHING controlled by computers? :face_palm_02:

Yeah, um. Well. Sure. OK. Hmm.

The generator suggestion is a good one. We got one a few years ago to be able to deal with extreme weather, but a blizzard or tornado (that's what took us off line for five days and motivated the generator purchase) is nothing compared to a multi-state blackout. Keep lots of fuel on hand, too, since gas pumps run on electricity too.

We have a Honda 3000iS that runs the whole reptile room, 2 bigger fish tanks, the fridge and 2 chest freezers. Highly recommended.

Both Russia and China have put a lot of resources into state-grown/trained hackers.

Neither country likes us very much.

Yeah, but China sure does love taking our money. And we, like dumbasses, love to give them our money, and then on top of that turn our manufacturing base over to them too.

Future history is going to show us deserving what is coming.

IMHO.

Ahem. Who bought a China-crap lathe last year???

Ahem. Who bought a China-crap lathe last year???

Yep, guilty as charged. Please note the "we" in my quote above. I know I have purchased my fair share of Chinese made stuff. If you are able to NEVER buy anything made in China I would be very surprised to learn that anyone can do that these days. The unfortunate thing in some cases is that you either buy Chinese, or go empty handed, because no one else makes some merchandise any longer.

As for that "China-crap" lathe that came off of Ebay, that got returned to the seller and I got my money back. I knew I was taking a chance on quality, and thought I could work it into a reasonably accurate machine, but it was worse than my worst expectations. I did buy another lathe that was also made in China, but it is a lot better quality and sold through a USA reseller who specializes in such machines, and supports and stands behind what he sells. And accordingly the price reflected that difference. Point of the matter is that I had no other choice if I wanted to buy a decent lathe. Nothing else came even close to all the specs I wanted, either new or used made in the USA.
