Anyone had any experience that his BP vomited? What happened is my BP has not been eating for about 1 month cause there is shortage of mice in the market. So last 2 days i got 3 mice and i fed it live. Yesterday when i back from working, i notice that my BP vomited 2 mice out of 3. So, i clean up the tank and when i carried my BP, it looks sick and it dont usually look that weak. Anyone with any advise will much appreciate.

You overfed him. You should never offer more than one mouse during a feeding, unless they are much smaller than a normal sized meal. And since when is there a shortage in mice?

how large is your snake first off? This is wouldnt be a huge issue if your snake is capable of taking rats already. But if the mice are not much smaller than the widest part of your snake, i would say youve really over fed him! If he hasnt been eating, work him slowly back up to two.

Can you tell me how old the snake is? and the size? this would help out alot!

She is about 2.5 to 3 years old .. and about 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. Anyway, i living in malaysia, and pass 1 month there is really hard to find any mice.

Normally i fed her about 2 mice, but this time round i fed her 3. Cause i think she must be hungry. After the vomit, she look weak and sick. Is this normal symptoms after the BP puke?

At that size, I don't think the third mouse is "overfeeding" (esp since it hadn't fed in a month). There are a few reasons that the snake might have regurgitated - increased/decreased temperatures, significant stress, excessive handling, internal parasites, etc. Most often when a snake regurgitates, it does not appear sick and weak afterwards - the fact that this one does should be cause for concern. Also, because it does, you can probably rule out some of the more benign causes of regurgitation. Unfortunately, diagnosing its sick and weak appearance is no easier than stating why it regurgitated. It could range from bad feeders to dehydration to high parasite load to even more serious issues. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks for trying to help hhmoore.
Another question is, can i wash her up? Cause she smells after the puke (Dead Mice). I did not clean her up yet cause i afraid she cant touch any water yet. And should i leave a bowl of water in there just in case she need water? Sorry for this noob question, cause i really worried about my BP and i have no idea what should i do.

Absolutely, wash her up. And it should be ok to give water - just don't use the water you wash her in (again, that is SHOULD, since we don't really have a definite explanation for the regurgitation or the sick appearance).

If you have a vet, or somone near by that can check your animal for Parasites you should do so. A regurge is never a good thing when it does happen, and like Hhmoore said, there are several reasons as to why it can happen.

Oversized meals are one of the more common reasons a snake wont hold its food down ( they can take a fair amount of food though) the biggest reason i could see it happening is the parasites though, its best to have your snake checked out by a vet. The next time your snake poops ( i know this sounds weird) bag it up and bring it to the vet with you. they can check it and give you any medication if need be. Good luck with your snake!

Oh well... thanks for all those help and support. This forum really cool, cause all of u guys are so helpful.

But unfortunately, my snake died this morning. I'm a little sad and guilty now. Thinking of getting another, but because of me, my snake died. So, i dont think i will have another BP that soon. Anyway, i still need to thanks all those who replied my post and trying to help.

Hope i will get another BP soon.

And i think alicia was right about the parasites. Cause i cannot think of any other way the snake could have get sick. And i think my snake vomited the mice out for a reason before the day she died.

Usually, there is some indication (not feeding well, recurrent regurg, etc) if internal parasites are causing a problem. I did not get the impression that your snake was showing any signs of illness prior to this regurgitation. I mentioned before that the snake looking sick and weak after the regurgitation was definitely cause for concern...I neglected to ask how it looked prior to the feeding. Did it appear normal and healthy?

Barring pre-existing illness, the 2 most likely causes from death after a regurg (IMO) are bad feeders or trauma. In this case, I would lean toward the former because I don't believe that a meal of three mice was likely to cause this. Even if it amounted to too big a meal, the snake should have been able to get rid of the extra without causing a tear/perforation/rupture that would lead to death. Of course, there are circumstances that would make it possible: the snake being dropped or falling with a full stomach, something impeding the passage of the regurgitated prey items, etc.

Regardless, I am sorry to hear that your snake died.

I am sorry too! its never pleasant to lose an animal that youve gotten attached to.

If you do plan on another snake in the future, you should clean the tank with a small amount of bleach and water mix. usually the ratio is... 1 cup of bleach to 6 cups of water. just make sure its pretty diluted... then, dry the enclosure out as best you can and then rinse it with just water, and let it air dry for a few days.
