Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So yeah just came home today and decided hey lets put some new plants in the Viv. as I was moving some moss I saw 3 (maybe more) eggs buried in the dirt... So here's my question what the heck do I do? I'm stoked but don't know the first thing about Crested eggs just lookin for some helpful tips or any advice on how to ensure everything goes okay.

How many females do you have? A clutch is generally 2 eggs...
They're really easy to hatch, I just use deli cups with vermeculite (perlite also works) get wet but bot sopping. Push your finger into it making a hole, place egg in hole only partly covered. You will want to place a small mark on the top of the egg to make sure not to turn it. (the baby will drown) also open the tub to air out every so often (if it doesn't have holes)
The best luck I've had is placing the deli cup as close as possible to where the female laid her eggs (its like they know the best spot for them lol)
I'm sure I'm missing a bunch so make sure to read as much as possible...
Are the eggs white? You should be able to candle them in a few days to see if they're fertile (good eggs show a big red ring within a week)
Best of luck!

My assumption is one female and one male (I have 2) after my internet panic I called the breeder I bought them from and he said the same. Sort of he said to place them in a breathable container inside a 10gal tank filled a few inches with water also said to use vermiculite(spelling???) so around 2 months to hatch if kept around 75 degrees right? I didn't even think to candle them I'm not by any means a breeder, well I suppose I'm a accidental one now, so do you know how old before they can go out as pets? A good friend of mine is a lizard keeper and said if they hatch he'd like one. Thanks for the response btw :D

The eggs are a really nice solid white color, but I have no idea how old they are lol. I don't often move the decor around in the viv. so when I pulled all the moss out and saw the eggs under it it came as a big shock.

I don't know about the tank idea, I've tried something similar with leopard gecko eggs years ago but they ended up going bad... it could definitely work though lol (even though it honestly sounds like too much work...)
Usually white eggs are good.
Does one of the cresties have a good sized "bulge" under its tail? That'd be the boy :p
Since you only have 2 adults, I'd assume you have multiple clutches worth of eggs which means you should candle them lol. It's actually really really easy to do, just take a flashlight (pen lights work really well) and hold it under the egg in a dark room. Be very careful to not rotate or tip the egg from its original position. What you see will vary a lot depending on how old the egg is (assuming its not a dud)
Within a few days you see a red vein that makes a complete circle around the top of the egg. It grows and grows til eventually you can barely make out a little gecko inside (just before hatching you see nothing but shadow because they block the light lol)
It's actually really cool looking once you can make out the babies. Last year I had one move while I was candling it! (it startled me...) It hatched probably about a week later.
It should take between 2 and 3 months to hatch. Mine last year all took about 70 days to hatch.

As far as when to rehome them, that kinda depends on the experience of who they go to and your personal preference. I'd probably wait a month or so, or at least wait til they're eating and pooing properly. Hatchlings pretty much have the same needs as the adults except spray a little more often for aiding with sheds and drinking. (be careful with water bowls, if you have one make sure its shallow and put maybe some soft stones or a plastic plant in it so they can climb out. The hatchlings can drown in it (and trust me, that's way too sad to deal with) :'(
*just in case it doesn't go "unsaid" they can't be housed with adults or they could become a snack...:-(

P.s. just a warning, cresties are really fun to breed and raise... nobody stops at just a couple! :p lol I also started out kinda on accident and now I'm practically overrun with these awesome geckos! Cages everywhere!! :dgrin:

OMG my wife's gonna kill me  I love herps and she... well lets just say wants nothing to do with them:(. I just candled them and it looks good little pink/red lines inside all 3 but they all look the same:thumbsup:. Another thing I wanted to add is all 3 eggs are kinda glued together...It's weird because everything i've read says that's not normal:confused:. And it kinda hints toward not so good husbandry but my gauges state otherwise, I also used my IR temp gun and the temps are between 75-79 on the cold side and 83 under my UV moon lights I use for extra heat. My humidity is at 60 right now and I'm in between mistings.

3 eggs all in the same stage... triplets! :) that's cool! Lol I hope they hatch!
I honestly have no idea about the sticking together part... the only thing I can say is that you might wanna bring the temps down a bit... what's the average temp in the room you keep them in? So long as they don't fall too low you'd be more than fine without a lamp. Mine actually seem to prefer the cooler temp range like low 70's (pretty much comfortable temp for humans lol) but that's my experience and of course others could have a different idea. At my old house I actually would move my cresties into my bedroom during the warmer months because no matter what I did, I could not keep the reptile room lower than 85 during the warmest part of the day.

My apt is at a very strictly regulated 70 degrees. My house fans and heating cooling system fan is always on to ensure for a constant temp. I have scorpions, a snake, turtles, fish, and a Dog so I try and keep the apt. at a constant so I can add or reduce heat as needed per tank to keep all my critters happy :)

Oh and lauraleellbp thanks pangeareptile has some good info too!

That sounds like my sort of climate! Lol I hate nothing more than the feeling of being hot inside of my apartment! (Or really just hot in general lol)
Sounds like you've got a pretty big "family" like me :) I have a hard time remembering a time in my life before I had pets of all kinds.
Best of luck with your cresty triplets and be sure to keep us posted! Lol

Sticking part happens... it's nothing to worry about, but I wouldn't try separating them. And this is the first I've heard of triplets happening... how exciting! Can't wait to see what comes out of them and how their traits compare between the siblings.

I don't think they're going to be hatching :( although this was the first clutch so maybe practice makes perfect? I'll keep an eye on my viv since I just changed it around a bit and wait for the magic to happen again lol. Thanks all for the advice and replies! At least next time I'll have a better idea of what to do :)
