In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My Experience with Chris Altizer AKA HerpLuver

Chris if you read this I am going to pm you with my phone # all I ask is that you call. I would still like to get the BP.

Robin, you might want to call Chris (his # is listed in this thread)...he hasn't been on Fauna in two weeks

I feel bad about having to do this as Chris is someone ive always considred to be a good friend, But Im the 3rd of that grp from fauna chat Im only out a cpl hundred bucks so its not a real big deal to me.I would have gladly lent him or just given him that anyways, And i have no doubt he would do the same if our positions were reversed. Im more worried about Chris's situation than anything I suppose.

I Do think its pretty crappy he hasnt gotten in touch with Anyone tho which makes me think he might be in a real bad situation as we are always in contact with one another on a fairly regular basis (IM or telephone)

well I dont wanna beat a dead horse so Ill just leave it at that.

I worry too, he really never seemed to be this type of person. And you knew him best out of everyone here i think...

I wasn't going to say anything because I had considered it a personal matter not a "reptile business" matter but where people are coming out with all this worry over Chris and saying this is out of character, I will add myself to the list of people whose friendly help has been abused by Chris. In 2005 he borrowed several hundred dollars from me to get himself out of a mess. I do not have the PM's saved so I don't recall all of the details, but shortly after I lent him the money with a payment plan he allegedly lost his job and had another sob story or two. He made some payments totaling $150 but was still quite a bit short. I wrote it off in my mind to him being a deadbeat and me being a sap for a sad story from a "good guy". Again, since this was a personal loan, and not a reptile transaction, I didn't post it here. In retrospect, I regret that. Perhaps some of you might have been a bit more circumspect in your dealings with him.

I always find it amazing how 2 people can view the same things but see something completely different. From the posts that I read about him it was obvious to me that he lacked good judgement. His choices were always on the outside of the norm and often times lacked common sense. To me, this was simply par for the course.

Bob:

I think its a glass half-empty or half-full kind of thing.

You and I just happen to see the glass half-empty with the balance filled with BS.

I went back and read the other unfavorable BOI post about Chris and at the very least he didn't make prudent financial decisions.

Bottom line - he shouldn't have had the animals if he couldn't pay his rent. I have chatted with Chris before and it occurs to me that on more than one occasion he was employment challenged. Maybe he thought that breeding reptiles would be the salvation to his financial woes - I'm not in a position to know. What I do know is that he has left more than one person in this community hanging in the wind and not just from the incident that this thread was based upon.

I don't like seeing anyone hit the skids, but I absolutely deplore people who abuse the kindness and charity of others on their way down. :NoNo:

Ed:

As far as Chris being a really good guy - I have to disagree. A really good guy wouldn't have done this to people who were supposed to be his friends nor anyone for that matter. Chris is old enough to know when to man-up and do the right thing, he has just chosen to take the path of least effort in this case.

I have a phone number that i just called, it is on Chris's Paypal Account that is the "Customer service number"

410 800 1314 Dont know who it is, just some guy who admitted to knowing chris to me on the phone. He now hangs up when i call?

I have called his number and am getting a recording. so I have now opened a dispute with paypal. I do not know Chris like some of you here do. infact this is the first time I have even talked to him so needless to say first impressions are NOT good. as I see it I owe him nothing.

I do however feel badly for those of you who do know him personally. if this were a friend of mine I would be at a loss as to what to do. I'm very sorry.

I got my paypal "refund" from chris. .59 cents.

Ive split The "refund" among the other people that were stolen from in this deal. Robin, im willing to send you .19 cents as well ( out of my own pocket of course! :p ) because fair is fair. I forgot you were also part of this whole fiasco. PM me your email addy and ill send the funds on over to ya! ^_-

Alicia, you didn't need to send me anything. Although getting a message from PayPal saying I just received $.19 had me rolling.

Since you were the first person to file a claim, I'm sure you got the entire balance of his bank account. Unfortunately that mean the rest of will receive nothing. Lesson learned........... Hopefully our banks will come through with some sort of refund.

That may not be the case. I know a few years ago a ex of mine messed someone over on ebay. The buyer used paypal and I know my ex at the time took all the money out of his account. I think he did this in hopes he buyer wouldn't be able to get his/her money back. My ex was wrong and paypal took money out of his account and his paypal account was in the negative. When my ex put money back into his account, paypal just ate up that negative #. So really I think the guy/woman who he messed over did get their money back and my ex got his really taken away in the end.
Not sure if it still works that way, but that is what happened to a old ex of mine.

Best of luck you guys! I hope paypal or your banks are able to get you that money back!!!

If you used a pay by CC or you used your VISA or MC debt card, you can be refunded the money... contact them ASAP. VISA & MC have fraud protection, & PayPAL addmitted you were a victim of fraud.

I went through EXACTLY the same thing (except it was an E-bay item purchase). FYI: NEVER have the funds pulled directly from your bank account; use a CC or LOGO debit card & you'll be protected.
Best Wishes- Deb
