Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My First Beardie

Hello

Hello Amber!

Too bad your neighbors aren't nice! They don't want their kitten huh? At least they are moving!

Nope, no spiders for me either. Yeah, just make sure you take all accessories that could get any residue on them after spraying so your feeders or Toby doesn't get in contact with anything.

I am sure you are excited to get his new tank started. Alot of people use particle board. You could get solid wood though, it would probably hold up better. The tiles will cost a bit, but it will look really nice though!

Hopefully you will get a nice sunny day soon so you can take him outside for awhile.
Talk soon.

Tracie

Our semi-warm days are here, it's just been raining a lot lately, and then I think by the time that stops for good, we're gonna end up with one more cold spurt. *sigh*

Yes, will def. being using a solid wood for his tank. It'll look much nicer when it's done. I also want to add decorative trim around the edges.

I'm not getting my sliding doors, instead they will be placed and open like cabinets do. Either way they'll be in the front though. So I can't complain too much.

It's going to have a metal stand, with trellis and areas he can climb on when he's not in his cage. Kind of like a jungle gym but it won't take up any extra space. :D

Hello

Hello Amber!

So the weather has been off & on huh? Yeah, I think it has been like that everywhere it seems. Yeah it looks like there will be one more cold snap, geez, it is supposed to be spring already!!

Yes that decorative trim on the outside will make it look great! Very fancy. :D Oh ok, that is easy then, just open the doors instead of sliding doors. That may end up being easier though. Either way it will look really good.

A cool little jungle gym then on the stand. The entire setup is going to be alot of fun for him & much more space too.

Tracie

A lot more space. And a place for him to hide when he's out, instead of me having to move bookshelves to get to his hiding spots. :p

My landlord will see him for the first time sometime today. I switched rooms with Harmony, and when I pulled her stuff away from the wall Toby's cage used to be on, there were hundreds of dead Roly Polys along the wall and then up another one. So I had to call landlord to come look for the hole they are getting in/out through and see if it can be fixed. We are both thinking it may be a crack in the foundation or something. Not sure just yet.

He KNOWS about Toby, since yesterday, but he's never seen him. hee hee...this'll be interesting enough. Then again, he was ok with the fact that I had mice, a lizard is a step up from that. At least if he gets loose, he won't be chewing through the walls or wires. :p

Hello

Hello Amber!

Great your landlord will meet Toby! What did he think of him? I am sure he will be fine with him if he was fine with mice!
Yeah it is crazy always chasing them down when they get under things! LOL
Hopefully your house doesn't have a crack in the foundation. Maybe it is just a hole in the siding or something like that, easy to fix!
When are you starting on his tank, in May?

Tracie

As soon as the weather gets warm and we make one more car payment. Then we will be able to asses how much we can afford on materials and slowly buy everything we need, or do it all at once. The way I see it, it shouldn't cost no more than $500 to build. Using particle board, the layout would cost no more than $300 but since I want a better wood, I'm adding in another $200 to be safe.

The guy doing this for us, he's not charging us for the metal, but I will insist he takes some kind of payment for the time. I realize the only reason he's doing it is to spend time with my husband and to stay out of trouble but still. He should take payment even if I have to hide it somewhere he won't see until we are gone.

I'm not doing the fake rock wall background. It'll take too long to do and we want to get it done pretty quickly. I am going to order these rock ledges though, from some site, I don't remember what it's called, but I have it bookmarked....and they drill into the walls of the tank and sit securely there so he has climbing area. And, I'm still wanting the waterfall underneath his one little basking ledge. Kind of a cool off area while he still digests and what not since it'll be hidden but still warm. Then I'm also thinking of doing a raised ledge on the bottom of the tank, so I can put a tank heating pad under it, but I may not have to go that route by the time we are done.

Just way too many ways to do this entire layout. :D

I don't know what the landlord thought of Toby, I wasn't here when he came over. But yeah, he didn't say anything on the phone when I mentioned him.

Hello

Hello Amber!!

Well, that is not too bad on the cost though, considering that will be his permanent home & everything you are doing to it. I think it will turn out very nice for him. :D
That is nice your hubby's friend is helping out & not charging, wow. You can hide some money somewhere so he wont find it until later on. That is a generous offer from him though.
Those type of ledges that are drilled onto the sides will be fine. He will have plenty of areas to sit & bask then. The waterfall will be a nice place for him to relax & cool down when needed. You will put that on the cooler end? There are all sorts of things you can do with his tank.
I am sure your landlord liked Toby. He didn't say anything though?

Tracie

Nope, landlord said nothing. So, I'm almost positive it's all good.

I think I'm going to put the waterfall in the warm/hot area. This way he can stay warm but not too hot.

Hello

Hello Amber!

Oh that is a great idea then. Toby is going to love his new tank & waterfall as well.
That is so strange that your landlord did not say anything?? I am sure if he had a problem with him, he definitely would have said so already.

Tracie

Yeah. I think we lucked out and got a pretty easy going landlord. Toby got a TON of attention yesterday. My "second mom" came over with her 4 kids and hubby and the kids were all petting him and cooing over him. He loved it.

Today, I have to clean out his cage again. Maybe change a bit of the design as well. I ordered him some more crickets, and this time, I'll be sure not to use ANYTHING that came in the box....including the food. *squirms at thought of spiders* I may even go as far as to waiting until hubby is home from work to do the transition from box to enclosure so I don't get surprised by anything.

Hello

Hello Amber!

Yes, you lucked out & got a good landlord then! I gues Toby loved all of that extra attention, they usually do don't they? LOL

Good luck rearranging the tank! Toby will notice things are different if you do move things around a bit. He should be alright though. :D

Tracie

Happy April Fools! Man, I'm in the middle of setting up a whole array of things to put onto my home computer to drive my hubby completely INSANE while I'm in class tonight. I will have it programmed to open the cd/dvd drive every 15-20 minutes, then close. The start button will follow the computer mouse around, and it'll still be clickable, so if he tries to click on something, it'll open the start menu, and to top if off, I'm making a screenie of the desktop image, (icons included) then, setting the screenie as the desktop image and placing all the REAL files into a small folder on the other end of the screen. So when he tries to click on an Icon, it won't work. Unless he decides to open the only folder that'll be available. :p But that's what the start button'll be good for. hee hee

Anywho, Toby is doing great! He got to run just a bit yesterday. He'll get to run some more tomorrow hopefully. :D

Hello

Hello Amber!

Happy April Fools Day too! I guess the computer will be playing a joke on your poor hubby! LOL OMG, that sounds SO hilarious! Was he a good sport??
I can just see it now, that had to have been so great!
Good that Toby is doing so well & is loving running around & everything. It sounds like he loves getting out to play now! :D

Tracie

He practically begs to be taken out so he can run. I feel bad because usually when he REALLY wants out, I have only a little bit to get ready and leave for work, thus can't take him out then chase him down when I have to go. :(

I ordered him more crickets, only problem is, they are smaller than I needed, so he's on a veggie/fruit diet for a couple weeks while they get bigger for him. Every now and then I throw some in. I remember it doesn't take long for them to get big.

I think, I am taking him outside tomorrow. He'll like that and it's supposed to be gorgeous out. It's almost that time where I can take him out any day I please (as long as it isn't raining) :D

Hello

Hello Amber!

How is little Toby doing tonight? :D I bet that he absolutely loves getting out, most of them do. It gives him alot of exercise, plus, he is getting spoiled too! Too bad he wants out right before you go to work though. Do you take him out when you get home then?
He will love going outside & hopefully it will be nice & sunny. Spring & summer is definitely here I think!
Oh no, the crickets are too small? You can still throw a few in there just so he gets some protein though. He will be fine short term, with his greens & veggies. You could get some chicken babyfood & spread some of that in his salad, or get some dragon soft bites/chews that have some protein in them & mix them in with his salad, too.

Tracie

Wow, I never thought to get chicken babyfood, I always thought I could only give him fruits and squash/veggies. haha....I'm going to have to remember that when I go to the store.

No, I don't take him out when I get home from work because I have to head straight to school, and when I get home, he's already sleeping. :( But I've been picking him up on my days off :D

I did a full tank clean the other day, and had JUST ENOUGH sand to make a small cushion on the bottom of his tank. I swore after the sand was gone, I was switching to felt and soft things until he got his new home, which I have to re-draw plans up for.

I took him out the day I was cleaning his cage, and once I was done, I dumped in some crickets for him then put him back in. He refused to let go of my hand, so I brought him back out and carried him around while he was hanging onto my shirt for a good hour or so. It was cute. I had to get dishes, and cook dinner while holding him. He was so happy! Wish I could have taken a picture of it.

I bought a food chopper the other day to chop up his food in a quicker manner. I used it the first day I got home, and def. much better than doing it by hand. haha

Hello

Hello Amber,

Oh poor Toby. Does your daughter get him out when she gets home then? No wonder he wants out alot then.
I bet that took awhile to clean out the whole tank though. So you used the last of the sand? You will be putting in tiles in the new one right?
That is funny he was hanging on you while cooking & walking around. I do the same thing. They love attention. He was wanting attention from you.
Oh the food choppers are very good & help save time, too! Yeah, you can use chicken babyfood in times like that for a short bit if you want. :D
It sounds like he is doing great.

Tracie

No, she doesn't get him out. She's still too young to do so on her own, at least with the set up I have at the moment. Once the new cage is built she'll be able to get him out all on her own. :D

I'm trying to figure out a way to make a small cage for crickets then have a tube (that can periodically be removed for cleaning) go from the cricket cage to Toby's cage. Then at night, when I don't want crickets coming out, put a small stopper in the hole. This way, he's eating as much as he needs, and I don't have to worry about forgetting or being too busy to do so myself. All I will have to remember is to chase the loose ones back down the hole before I plug it. :D Easier said than done though right?

His hammock will NOT stay up. :( Poor thing loves his hammock, but keeps falling down. I've tried everything except super glue. :p I may end up doing that once he gets his new tank. haha! Then again, he'll have all kinds of ledges to lay on too. :D

Hello

Hello Amber!!

Oh the hammock wont stay up? That is frustrating isn't it? Maybe you could tie it to the top or something, I don't know. So does it fall while Toby is laying on it?
Yeah, as soon as you get the new tank all setup it should be fine then. Maybe you can bolt it to the side perhaps.
That is a good idea to have that cricket tube, just make sure none are hiding overnight before you put the stopper in the end. LOL I can see it now, you will be hunting crickets!
Yeah, I guess your daughter is too young to get Toby out on her own still. At least she is good with him though. :))

Tracie

Yeah, I'll have them hunted down before I put a cork on it. There won't be much on the bottom for them to hide in once it's done.
