    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

My First Beardie

Hello

Hello Amber,

Good the basking light is a 100 watt, that should get the temps where they need to be.
However, the reptiglo 2 is definitely not strong enough in the UVB department. I would get either the reptiglo 8 or the reptiglo 10 (which is untested, but is ok) Just keep them at 8 inches from your dragon. Can you take the reptiglo 2 back & exchange it for the 8 if they have it?
If they don't have that at the store, you will need to order it online. They are cheaper that way anyway. Try www.reptilesupply.com to find the reptiglo UVB. You might be able to find a screen to fit your tank there too.
Great he is eating so many crickets. I am sure that he will love the phoenix worms, too. I hope he is doing well right now.
Talk soon. :))

Tracie

No, they don't carry any other brand that I saw. I'm hoping between being outside for a 1/2 hour to an hour a day will help make up for what's lacking in the light until I can afford to spend more. I've already gone through $300 with him and am flat broke now. :(

I'm hoping he likes the phoenix worms. Still trying to get him to eat his greens. Cleaned out his cage today while he sat atop my daughters head.....they both seemed to really like that.

Tomorrow he'll be taking a trip with me to pick up the stand for his tank that a friend welded for me. Can't wait, it'll make cleaning and feeding WAY easier. I won't have to bend over no more. And hopefully with that, he won't be bothered by any vibrations from the floor and what not when all the kids come in to play.

Hello

Hello Amber,

Sorry, I know things have been expensive. Try to get him outside daily, at least 30+ minutes to make up for the lack of the UVB strength. That should do for awhile.
Great a tank stand will help out alot. Plus, he will have a better view! LOL He will be able to see more going on around him.
I hope he likes the phoenix worms, but most tend to love them. I hope you get them soon!

Tracie

It's no problem at all getting him outside for 30+ mins. a day. My daughter goes out every day and her friends LOVE to see him outside. I think he likes the attention too.

I think he's finally eating his greens. I had a bunch of worms in there, and emptied it out this morning, and there were only 4 worms. I can't remember how many greens were in there, but it seems like it was lower than what I started with.

Thanks again for all the help. I can't believe there was so much I missed in all my research. *sighs*

Hello

Hello Amber,

No problem, I hope I have helped out! You know, there is alot of different opinions & alot of them are not right or are extremely outdated, so don't feel bad! At least you came for help, that is what matters.
Oh I am quite sure that he is enjoying every minute of attention from everyone while being outside!!
Great he is eating some greens, that is a start for sure. Some wont eat them no matter what you do! Consider yourself lucky if he starts eating them.
Let me know how he is doing. It sounds like he is in great hands. :))

Tracie

Well, he didn't eat his greens. Turns out he digs the worms out THEN eats them. What a spoiled thing, I'm telling you. I took him on a short ride today to the town next door. He was loving it. Then we stopped at a yard sale and I walked around with him on my shoulders so he could sun. He seemed to really like that. His typical orange, was almost red when we got back in the car. I'm not sure if it's because of the sun, or all the attention he was getting. lol

We got his stand today. His tank now sits about 6-8 inches off the ground. High enough so the vibrations on the floor don't bother him, but low enough we can still sit down and watch him.

His food escaped today. So we've got crickets roaming around the apartment. Hubby went and got him more, comes home, and asks "Do you realize how big he's going to get?"

Apparently at the bait shop, they had a 3 year old bearded dragon. I told him yes I knew and he just looked at me like I was nuts. haha

Yes you have helped me LOADS. Between you, and this dragon breeder I just started talking to, I've learned a lot more.

I think when he gets bigger I'm going to try him on the hissing roaches. I readthey are supposed to be really good for him.

I will keep you posted on how he does though. Thanks again. :D

Hello

Hello Amber,

Yeah, that was the only one I could come up with too, but figured most people knew about it. I am not sure that there is an exotic only pet insurance. I am still looking, but haven't found anything yet.
It sounds like Harmony is already spoiled by all of the attention on his outings now!! LOL Great he had such a good time.
So he just digs the worms out of his greens. I am really not surprised, alot of them do that same exact thing!! Maybe he will eventually eat his greens. His crickets escaped so your hubby had to get more! Hopefully you will find them or you will hear them eventually. The roaches are very good for them alot of people do use roaches, either the dubia's or the lobsters.
I bet he enjoys looking out of his tank now, with a good view up off of the ground now.
I hope he is doing well. Talk soon. :))

Tracie

His name is Tobias...lol...Harmony is my 2 year old daughter. :p

But yes, he loves his outings and the attention. I have a family reunion coming up soon that he'll be going to. Lots of shade if he gets too hot, and good sunny patches.

I knew there wasn't any exotic pet only insurance, I was just trying to find one that covered more than just minor things.

The crickets, nowhere to be found, and they aren't chirping at night either. So they will probably just die off if they haven't found their way outside already.

He still stays up on his leaves most of the time. I think I made him mad last night though. I went to make sure Harmony was covered up, and then went to check on him, he had himself wedged between the screen and the top of his wall, looked so uncomfortable, so I moved him to the leaf he normally sleeps on. He just kind of looked at me like "I can't believe you just woke me up"

So it's normal he's digging out his worms, that's good to know. He took a snip at some clover the other day. My husband and Harmony held it in front of him and he took 2 or 3 teeny bites of it. So I'll be going to my grandpa's to get him some more along with some dandelions in hopes that he'll eat those opposed to the collards.

Thanks for the link for the pet insurance Jack! Will check it out tonight.

Hello

Hello Amber,

LOL Sorry! I got the names wrong! Oh both names are cute. Tobias is great for your dragon's name.
Oh is he going to have a blast at the family reunion. Do you have a mesh carrier for him so nothing gets him? Just watch out for the fireflys, if you are in an area that has them. He will love all of the attention.
True, if the crickets don't find food or water, they will eventually die. If they didn't have any wings, then, they wont make noise. I guess the ones you feed are small though so they wont have any wings. Those are the mature adult ones that get wings.
Alot of dragons tend to love dandelions & clovers, so, that is fine. Just make sure there haven't been any chemicals used on them, & that is no problem there. Yes, they all figure a way to get those worms out of their greens without getting any greens. We can hope he gradually gets a few mouthfulls to get the worms.
So you woke him up huh? Poor baby! LOL He is small if he can sleep on a leaf! LOL

Tracie

Yes, he is small. The leaves are somewhat big though..haha

No mesh screen. I use an old tub from a toy organizer. I keep him by me enough so nothing can try to get him. If I have him outside and I have to make a quick trip in, I ask one of the kids to sit by him until I get back. Always works out great.

Yeah, I know about the fireflies.....scary.

The dandelions and clover I'll be getting I know for a fact don't have chemicals on them. My grandpa doesn't do that kind of stuff. :D I can always count on him when I need dandelion root for my teas. So I know it's safe for him. :D

Thanks!

Hello

Hello Amber,

Great, that is excellent you can get dandelion from your grandpa anytime that is convenient. They will be fine then. I hope that Tobias ends up liking the dandelion then.
The large plastic bin is fine, & I know you know how important it is to watch him. I think he will have fun. Just needs to be babysat, but who minds? :D
It sounds like your kids are very helpful with him. That is great!
I know, those fireflys are scary. I wish they weren't attracted to them, or they had some type of medication to flush the toxins out if ingested.

Tracie

Fireflies are very scary. I read that just 1 firefly can kill an adult bearded dragon within minutes. *shudders* poor things.

Yes, Harmony is very helpful with him, even for only being 2 years old. She even feeds Tobias his crickets from time to time.

I know I don't mind having to babysit him. He'll probably be riding on my shoulders much of the time anyways. My husband is a bit worried about taking him though with how hot it's been here lately. So I guess I'll just keep an eye out on the weather, he might end up being left behind because of it. :( I've had to cut his time outside and do it twice sometimes four times a day just so he doesn't overheat. Instead of keeping him out for the full half hour. If I don't get him in sooner, he gapes and starts to pant heavily...even in the shade. It's just too hot this week. Even when it was ok to have him out just once for the full time, I kept his squirt bottle by me to mist him down every few minutes or so.

I'm hoping he likes the dandelions too. I should be getting them this weekend. :D

Thanks Jack for the fixed link. :D Much appreciated.

Hello

Hello,

Yes, fireflys are extremely toxic & it is a real bummer too! I have only heard of 1 dragon surviving the ordeal of eating a firefly. I don't know how, but he survived. I don't remember where I read it, maybe the Reptiles magazine.
Yeah, with the heat index, you really have to be careful because he can get overheated fast. Good thing you are misting him & spraying him down, because that helps. Great you are keeping such a close eye on him. Dehydration can really get them! Great job!
I am sure that he will love the fresh dandelion greens from your grandpas!

Tracie

I read the firefly thing in The Bearded Dragon Manual....my husband made me promise to read it if he bought it for me. We got it the same day we got Tobias.

I seen him drink for the FIRST TIME since I've had him today. I was misting his cage, and when some of the water got on him, he started to lick it off, then when a small pile built up on his rock, he started to lap it up. I couldn't figure out why he didn't go to his water dish to drink. Then I remembered that juvenile dragons can't always find the water on their own..so I put him next to it, then started to mist the tank again, and sure enough, the water falling in the dish struck his interest and he started to drink it. I thought for sure that was my worst problem with him was that he wasn't drinking his water, but apparently he has been. *wipes forehead in relief*

I let him run around my daughters bedroom for a little bit today. Kept a good eye on him, because of her toys, but he stayed mostly by his cage.

Brought him out later to the living room and he sat on my lap for a bit then decided he felt froggy enough to jump around and ended up falling through the side of my futon.

:( Poor thing.

I've noticed something about him though, and I wish I had noticed it when I got him, but on his back foot, one of his toes is crooked and goes upwards opposed to normally pointing down. It basically looks like it was broke at one point or something. I wish I had brought this up sooner, but I just remembered from having him out earlier and seeing it again. I've felt around on it, and it doesn't seem to bother him any, but I'm worried...should I have it looked at or is this normal in some dragons from some type of accident in birth, deformation, or sibling nipping at him.

Hello

Hello Amber,

That is a good initial book for informative purposes. I have a copy as well.
Great you finally got Tobias to drink. That is what it takes, they have to see the water move, literally. It takes a bit of work & training, but they will learn to drink from it though. A dripper type system works pretty well also. Great he drinks on his own!
It sounds like he had fun roaming around outside of his tank. He fell through the futon, poor guy! He was just trying to have fun.
That is more than likely what happened, maybe a small toe injury from the early days from one of his hatchmates perhaps. As long as it doesn't seem to bother him, it should be fine. He is lucky, alot of babies end up with nipped tails & toes. If he has all of his digits & the end of his tail, consider him lucky!!
You are doing a great job with him! :)

Tracie

I recieved his phoenix worms today. He seemed more curious as to why his greens were moving, but didn't seem too interested to eat more than a couple. He hasn't gotten much attention today, Harmony woke up with a fever today and I've been fussing with her, so he's had to stay put. :(

So it's ok as long as his toe isn't bothering him. Good deal. I guess I'll just keep an eye on his toenail then. If it even grows anymore, I don't think it does, it's very short and stubby compared to all his others, but if it does grow, I think it might cause some problems later on.

Well, I'm going to go give him some quality attention now before his lights switch off. He keeps "begging" me to take him out when I go near his cage. :D I'm going to try to get him outside tomorrow too for a little bit.

Are there any other books you might suggest for me to read up on? Or other sites?

Hello

Hello Amber,

Another good book, published in 2006, is called Bearded Dragons in Captivity, by Allen Repashy
I got it from www.beanfarm.com Though I am sure you should be able to find it at several places, maybe even www.reptilesupply.com too.
Oh no, he didn't get all of his attention today he will be pouting later on. Poor guy. Maybe eventually he will dive into his greens. Try some of those moist dragon bites/pellets & mix them up in the greens & veggies, too that might help some.
The toenail may just be that way for now on. As long it isn't bothering him, no problem. If the nail starts to grow strange, you can trim it with nail clippers carefully to keep it at bay.
The reptileroom.com is a very informative website & forum too you might check that out.
I hope your daughter Harmony is better.
Tracie

HE'S SHEDDING! I didn't think they would shed this young..are the supposed to shed this young?.....I'm so happy for him!

We also had an accident with his cage a few minutes ago. Harmony comes running out of her room screaming about one of the crickets that had gotten loose that day, she said she saw one (she's been scared to death of them since that day) and I went in to see if I could catch him (no such luck, he vanished before I got in there), then I looked over at Tobias' cage and the rock background had fallen over, and the heat lamp melted a good sized hole into it. :( So I had to flip it, clean out tank, and put it back together.

I will check out that book and that site for sure. :D

He did pout. Every time I walked by the room he'd stop jumping around and just stare at me. So I took him out for a bit and let him run loose in the living room. I got a video clip of it. haha He'll be taken outside later today after Harmony goes down for a nap so he can sun. Is there anything special I need to do for him while he's shedding? Or just let it be?
