Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. My First Beardie

Hello

Hello Amber!!

Oh too bad you didn't find a firefighter's outfit for Toby. Well, even if he only goes all wrapped up in his fleece blankie that is ok too! :D He will look adorable no matter what, with his little bag of treats.
That sounds like it will work fine that size of tub for the crickets. If they have more room to move around you should have very little die offs. Don't let them get too cold, either.
Oh geez, you were exposed to head lice? UGH!! Good luck with that I hope it wont affect you any!!
Talk soon.

Tracie

Thankfully it didn't affect us any. I took Toby out, but eventually had to bring him home (like after we finished our street) Harmony got really cold, so we had to switch her outfits, and I decided to keep him here so he'd stay nice and warm. It ended up being colder than expected. I think he preferred being inside his cage opposed to outside anyways.

I just got done clipping his nails. That is VERY nerve wracking let me tell you. I almost cut off one of his toe tips...I was getting ready to clip and Harmony came running in, scared the bejeezes out of me, luckily, he's quicker than I am and jumped before it went down. I'm guessing he isn't too hungry right now, I put him in his cage to eat, and he's not attacking any of them. just sitting there letting them climb on him.

Will try again tomorrow since it's too late to feed him in a 1/2 hour.

Hello

Hello Amber!

That is great it didn't affect you, what a mess!
Aw, too bad it was not any warmer. I guess Toby would rather be warm than cold though, but hopefully he had a little bit of fun anyway. Geez, Harmony got cold too? I guess it is getting that time of year now.
Oh lucky that Toby moved his finger! Trimming the nails is easy, but you definitely have to be careful for sure. They have such tiny little fingers & nails.
Did he eat today?

Tracie

Yeah, he's mad at me again. His background started to melt again in one spot near the top (I guess the light got too close) so I just took it all out. The background and the leaves. It gave him more room once I did anyway. With it in here, and the huge rock we got him, and his 2 branches, and his feeding bowls, and the cricket mound thingy, he just didn't have much room and I thought he was upset about that too. So now he has plenty of room to move, but he doesn't like not having his background. I can't wait to get his tank built. I saw something that I absolutely LOVE and I'm going to use it as plans for his tank. Too bad the chest itself isn't big enough or I'd figure out a way to just use it. It's got plexi glass on the two long sides and at the top, and the two short sides and bottom are wood. But I will be putting mesh screen on the top instead of the plexi glass. And on one of he two sides, I'll make his climbing wall that I wanted to do...and on the other side, is where his lights will go so that way they are enclosed and not on top of the cage where kids can get to them. Then the rest of it will be completely open, but I am hoping that I can figure out a way to kind of decorate the plexi glass in the back so he'll have a nice foilage spot. :D I can feed him IN his tank now cuz the background is gone. It's great!

Hello

Hello Amber!

Oh no, Toby is mad again? Poor thing! His background melted, geez, how annoying! How close is the basking light to that? Did you tape it to the inside? You could tape it on the outside?
Well, you could take out a water bowl if you have one in there & leave just one feeding bowl in there to clear out more stuff so he can move around more in there.
When are you going to start on his new tank then? The plans sound really good, & it should end up looking very nice. I think that is a good idea to enclose the lights so they are not sitting on top, especially since you are using mesh now. I am looking foward to seeing pictures of it when you are done with it. That climbing wall is going to be cool! :D
Is he still eating well now? I am sure it is nice to feed him in his tank. Just make sure no crickets hide from him & stay in there over night.

Tracie

I want to build his tank so badly. I went to my mothers' house the other day, and her boyfriend has this chest sitting in the front room. It was wood on the bottom and the two short sides and glass on top and the long sides. I saw it and said I wanted Toby's tank to have that exact design, only bigger, and the top flat instead of domed. Tim wants to buy his tank. *sigh* So I guess that is what we are going to do instead.

He is in the living room now so he will stay warmer at night. I think he likes it in here. He gets a LOT of attention, and even when we aren't playing with him, he can still watch us, unlike when he was in Harmonys' room.

It's GREAT feeding him in his tank. By the time he goes to bed at night, all but maybe 2 or 3 crickets have been eaten. They hide in his cricket feeder and don't come out. :D

I probably will take out the water bowl, and put his two food dishes in that corner instead, but either way he has room to roam now. :D

Hello

Hello Amber!!

Oh too bad you don't get to build Toby's tank now! So he just wants to buy one then? You are going to miss out on all of that creative planning!!
Oh well, as long as it is large enough, no problem. He will be fine.
That is good the crickets are not coming out of the hide. Just make sure they don't so they don't bite him over night.
Oh I am sure that he loves being the center of attention now, being in the living room!! It sounds like he is really getting very spoiled as well. :D
Did you get a UVB light yet?
Hope all is good with you.

Tracie

He is LOVING his blanket.....he stays on it during the day now when he's not eating. Yeah, I was thinking I could still make his background even if we buy his new tank. It'll just take some cardboard, and the rest of the supplies, and good measuring too.

He does like being center of attention. We have this vine plant in a pot next to his tank, and we are spreading the vines out along the back of the tank, I guess he thought they were inside, because he climbed up on his rock, and JUMPED like he was trying to catch himself on the plants, but instead, the thermometer we have in there is what he caught, but since it was so small, he dropped back down. It was kind of funny then again, I felt bad for him.

Yeah, the crickets don't come out for some reason. I have to shake them out....the water dish is like right next to the thing, so they don't have to crawl all over the cage to find it, nor his veggies. The crickets have it made in there too. haha

No, haven't been able to get the light yet. Waiting until we are caught up on Credit card now. That is why he got moved to the living room since its' warmer in here. He'll get it though...probably for Christmas along with something else, not sure what but, I'll figure it out.

Hello

Hello Amber,

Great that Toby loves his blankie!! :D
So he stays on it for alot of the day too, that is cool. What color is it?
Hopefully you can figure out a cool background for his new tank.

Oh poor baby, he missed his vines huh? Well, at least he didn't hurt himself though. He probably hurt his pride though! Does he like to climb the vines all of the time? I bet he looks so cute! :D

At least the crickets haven't been bothering him any thankfully. I am sure it is too cool to take him outside now, so hopefully you will get him a good light at Christmas.

I am glad he is doing so well now.

Talk soon.

Tracie

Yeah, I think it did hurt his pride some. But he's recovered, he's learned that he has the two big vines in his cage, so he climbs on those. In fact, he's sleeping on the one right now. He's cute when he sleeps, his mouth stays open a bit, like he's having a good dream. He keeps waking up though, and I feel bad, I should turn out the big living room light...but I ended up kind of restless tonight so up late.

The blankie is a light blue. I've had it since I was about 14, so that's 7 years I've had it. I figured with all the holes, burn marks, and areas the fuzz was rubbing off, I could afford to cut him a piece off. haha

Crickets def. don't bother him, then again, he doesn't leave enough in there to bother him. I caught him now and then, getting up in the middle of the night and getting a snack. Worse than a kid lemme tell ya. Haha

Yeah, too cold to take him out. :( I feel bad. I wonder how he's going to react to the dog I'm sitting for next week.

He's been puffing out his beard the a lot the past couple days, or at least what he has of one. It's ADORABLE! He also waved at Harmony as she walked by. She got a kick out of that.

Hello

Hello Amber,

Oh poor little Toby, he got his pride hurt! I am sorry. He will recover, but at least he has good vines to climb now though! I bet he loves them.

Oh the lights bother him I am sure. You could use a towel or something to block out the light if you are up extra late though. Just so he doesn't wake up too much.

Oh that is so adorable, he arm waved at Harmony? I bet she loved that. Enjoy that now, because he most likely wont do it once he gets older. They are so sweet at that age, too.

At least he has a blue blankie & not a pink one! LOL That would really crush him! LOL

He might not mind the dog, but it depends on if he is loud or not. There is no chance of him getting to Toby in his tank, is there? Make sure it is very secured just to be safe.

Talk soon.

Tracie

No chance of the dog getting him. I mean, it's low, so the dog'll be able to look him in the eyes, but that's about it. I was told the dog is REALLY well behaved. :D

I hope he doesn't stop waving. I wanted to put a mirror on one of the short ends of his tank, just so he starts doing those behaviors a bit more before he gets older, but Tim thinks that might not be too nice to do.

He is going to get his picture taken with Santa on December 1st. The Animal Hospital in my hometown does it every year, and now I have a pet I can take with me to have it done. I'm going to try to find a small Santa hat to put on him, and possibly make him some white fuzzy boots for over his feet. :p I doubt the feet would go over very well with him though, so I might not do it.

I can't believe how big he's gotten in just this past month. The bulge on his neck, is filling out nicely. There are red streaks going through it too.....it's awesome looking.

Hello

Hello Amber!

Great that the dog will pose no threat to Toby. I am a worrier about those types of things. At least he is well behaved. When do you start watching him?

Well, some dragons do not mind seeing themselves in the mirror once they realize that it is them & not another dragon in THEIR territory. You can try it & see how he reacts. If he gets aggressive or starts to attack it then it is best not to stress him that way, even though it is cute at first. It will stress him if he does it too much.

Wow a picture with Santa how cute will that be!! I want to see it. :D Yeah santa hat would be cute, but I can just see it now, you trying to get boots onto him! I highly doubt it! LOL That is cool that the animal hospital does that every year.

He must really be growing. His beard will fill out & his head will widen even more too. That is great. Keep up the super work with him.

Tracie

Once I get the picture, I'll post it up. :D I start watching the dog this coming Wed. until Dec. 1st.

Toby is getting more and more alert as far as the t.v. goes. I think he has some favorite shows....he was really tuned in when Shrek the Third was on...haha. Now, he's watching Wishbone haha.

I have yet to weigh him again. During my cricket shortage, I know he didn't gain much. :( But since he's been eating NON-STOP he's probably made up for it at least a little bit. I can't wait for the next shipment, they should be here any time now. I almost think every 3 weeks is too long, might have to bump it to every 2 weeks. I can't believe he goes through 2K crickets in 2 weeks...sheesh! haha.

I have to bathe him sometime in the next couple days...but he's learned to jump out of all his containers...I don't know what to do...:p

I wonder how he's going to react to the Christmas Tree....it'll be in the corner behind the vine plant he tries to jump onto. The lights won't be on at night when we are sleeping, but still....

Hello

Hello Amber!!

How funny Toby has a favorite tv show now, well, at least it keeps his mind occupied now! They really are attentive though aren't they?

Oh I bet he is eating tons of crickets right now, he is making up for not having any for a bit!! I hope your shipment gets there soon. :D

He might be mesmorized by any flashing or blinking christmastree lights, who knows. That will definitely be interesting to see what happens with that.

Hopefully the dog wont bother him too much. As long as it is a friendly dog & doesn't bark much then it should be perfectly fine for him. Any constant barking might stress him out some, but hopefully that wont happen.

Oh he doesn't like his baths yet huh? Oh well, he will just have to deal with them. LOL

Tracie

I ended up turning the tree off last night. I think it bothered him. He tried to find darkest corner of cage to sleep. So, yeah, we just turned it off. We'll plug it in when it gets dark, and then unplug it once it's time for him to sleep.

The guy is mailing off another 2K of crickets today. So, counting the holiday, I see them getting here Friday or Saturday. :D

Still trying to figure out what to get him for Christmas......he's already got a new cage with toys lined up, I want to get him something to either play with or something, not sure. Any ideas?

Nope, still doesn't like his baths.

They are pretty attentive. It's amazing. Like a kid :D

The dog will be fine. If she barks, I'll put her in her kennel in another room. So no worries. :D

Hello

Hello Amber!

Oh too bad that the lights from the Christmastree seemed to bother little Toby!! The new lighting schedule should work out though for him.

Great you should be getting another 2K of crickets by friday hopefully. That really helps. He is an eating machine right now, isn't he? I will do some thinking about Christmas stuff for him. Wow, he gets a new tank & everything for the holidays. He will be spoiled. I know you are getting a light after the holidays so that doesn't count as a toy I suppose.

Maybe a stuffed toy perhaps, that is, if he isn't huge on biting or chewing on things.. :D

It sounds like you have everything all figured out when you have the dog over so it shouldn't be a problem then. Toby might get jealous if you pay more attention to the dog than to him though. LOL

Maybe he will learn to love his baths, in time possibly. Some just don't like them though.

Talk soon.
Tracie

Yup loads of new things this holiday. I don't think he's big on biting things, then again, I've never put anything in there with him aside from necessities and his blankie. :D Might try one of my old stuffed toys, make sure no rips in it first though. :D

Yes, he does seem to eat A LOT lately! He even chows down his veggies almost as fast as I put them in there. He LOVES his peppers. He could care less about the greens, he eats them though, and thanks to him Harmony eats peppers really well too. Anytime I cut him peppers, I have to give her a chunk of each one. haha

I need to get him more worms....he hasn't had any of those in awhile. Maybe that's what I'll get him for christmas. A Huge supply of worms. :D

Hello

Hello Amber!

I can see it now, a big stuffed toy in there for Toby to sleep on! LOL He would probably love that though. Yeah, if you get one, just look closely at it daily to make sure he isn't chewing on it! :D
Worms would be a nice little christmas gift for him. Something different for him. That is great he is eating lots of greens & veggies, especially peppers huh? He is making Harmony eat her peppers, too, now, that is funny!

I can't believe Thanksgiving is THIS thursday! Geez.

Tracie

Don't remind me about Thanksgiving. :( I haven't gotten to cook more than 1 dinner for it. And the one dinner I did cook, was pre-cooked the night before since I had to spend the day at the in-laws, and then go straight to my dads to make sure he got a decent meal instead of just sitting at home like he planned on doing. There wasn't even a turkey. :( I had to make a chicken.

Hmm wonder if I should get him a stuffed lizard, or a bear or something. :D
