Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My First Beardie

ACK! Well, the crickets and worms arrived today...ALL of them DOA! *sobs* guess the mail carriers took too long and they got too cold.

If I freeze them, do you think that I could still feed them to him until the replacements arrive? Whether it be the worms or the crickets? Or should I not attempt it?

That sucks.( About your crickets and the lack -o- local pet store.) I thought all mine were dead once when I left them outside one night after some basement re arranging. They had been out over night in about 39 degrees. seemmed dead as could be. But I put them under a nice warm heat lamp/or any bulb/Just for the heck of it and in about 45 min's they were OK!

Hello

Hello Amber!

OH NO! Sorry to hear that. Did you try warming them up to see if they were truly dead?
They are still fresh, but if they are dead I suppose you could freeze them. Maybe you could make a slurry out of them or something, & freeze it to use a little at a time until you get mord? Did you contact them about the shipment yet?
That is a real bummer!!

Tracie

Yes, he is sending replacements on Monday, which, I'm hoping I'll be home to get when they arrive. He said to wait about 6 hours before opening up....I've got them in their box still, but they are inside the cage I keep them in, so if any come back then they can't escape.

Hello

Hello Amber!

Great he is sending some more out on monday. Maybe some will come back out of that batch? Any luck?
How is Toby doing, still eating the freeze dried ones ok I hope? Darn cold weather huh? I hope a few were salvaged.

Tracie

None of the crickets came back, BUT some of the super worms did.....if not all of them. Looking at them, I just realized how seemingly disturbing a huge thing of worms looks. :p

Oh, and my illness...I've got MONO! How awful it is....and I'm going to be confined to my room after tonight. *sigh* Poor Toby won't have anybody to play with for at least 2 weeks. :(

Hello

Hello Amber,

Oh hon, sorry you have MONO. Geez, I have never had that before. You must have been really run down. Are you taking vitamins & eating well?
Great your superworms came then. Did Toby eat any of them yet? How long is he now? You had said 15 inches, right?
Oh can't your daughter bring him in to see YOU? I hope she plays with him & helps with feeding him too. Will your hubby help out?
I hope that you start feeling better soon.

Tracie

Hubby would have to take him out of his cage and give him to Harmony in order for her to bring him in to me. They are sleeping now is the only reason I'm able to come out here. And he's not one to have him out of the cage. He's afraid he'll get under something and we might hurt him if we try to get him out. So he only allows him out when I can keep an eye on him. :p

I'm sure he'll feed him when needed, if not, I don't think the doctors'll mind me being out of bed for 2 mins. to fill his dish.

Yes, he's eaten some of the worms already. He enjoyed them.

Hello

Hello Amber!

I am glad that Toby enjoyed his superworms though! :D
Oh I hope that your hubby will get him out more than just a little bit though. Maybe they will bring him in to see you, or you can sneak out of bed to feed him a bit! I am sure he misses seeing you all of the time!
Are you feeling better though?

Tracie

Hubby, GREATFULLY isn't making me stay in bed, but he IS making me lay down on the couch. He's starting to get mad at me for over-doing it. I purposely woke Toby up the other night, took him out, just to hold him, pet his head, and tell him goodnight. Then I put him back in his cage to let him get back to sleep. I'll probably let him run around some more tomorrow while I snooze on the couch. I can put blocks up to the things he can get under just so I know he won't go anywhere I won't be able to get to him at.

Poor thing needs some excercise. I wish I knew the worms "woke up" before I told the guy that they were all dead...cuz now I've got like 1K more of them arriving soon. *sigh* that's a LOT of worms. And right now, those worms are in my cricket bin...I didn't mean to order so many of them, I thought I was only getting like 100 of them at the most.

Hello

Hello Amber!

Don't overdo it, like your hubby has said!! I hope you are feeling better.
That is so sweet, you went & got Toby to hold him a bit even though you woke him up some. I am sure that he didn't mind. He was probably happy to see you.
Yeah, why can't you lay on the couch where he can see you?
How many of the worms came back & were not dead? Well, at least you will have plenty now!
I bet he would love running around while you are resting. Just get your rest, too. :D

Tracie

They ALL came back from the "dead" haha.

He's not too apt on running around now. I re-arranged the sticks in his cage yesterday, and they go all the way up to his lights....so he's chilling on the one under the UVB light.

I figured he might like that. He gets to climb, and he gets to be closer to his lights if need be.

I took him out of his cage yesterday while my mom was here....and he ran around for a bit, then went back over to his cage...and somehow.....he jumped and had his feet hooked to the bottom of the cage on the stand and had himself pressed against his glass as if he wanted back in. I don't know HOW he was able to stay against the glass like that....he eventually fell back down, but still. So I went over and put him back inside. But I don't think he wanted that either. *sigh*

I'm on the couch now, he can, but he can't see me. It all depends on how I'm laying.

Well, back off to bed I go.....I can't wait till I'm saying that about work.

Hi There, Sorry to hear you have Mono. I had it when I was teenager. i was sick for 2 months! I wasn't aloud to be in light for a few weeks even. As a teenager that seemed the worst to be so confined for so long! But as an adult you feel the sickness so much more in a way..
Lil Tang Will come running out of her cage like crazy to get any kind of worms I might be getting out. She sometimes likes to go to Romeo's cage a bit and do mating rituals which are so cool to watch. Then she gets bored I guess and goes back to her own cage on her own. They really are amazing to get to know and watch them. I want to get video of them doing the mating rituals its really something. Tang's;s too young for Romeo right now. And I haven't decided if I want to try to have dragon babies or not w/ them. But its a sure thing they would be willing!!
Hope you get to feeling better soon. G

Hello

Hello Amber!

I hope you are feeling better & getting rest. Great your mom came over & helped with little Toby when he was out.
That is funny he got himself all pressed up against the glass. He was probably just looking at the light & thought he wanted back in, but was having a good time running around outside of his tank.
Good he can get close to his lights. What 4-5 inches or so? Good you have a bright white light in there though. It sounds like his setup is working well for him right now.
I know you will be glad to get back to work soon. You still have awhile to go though.
Talk soon.
Tracie

He can actually get even closer than that to his lights IF he wants....almost directly under it. but he doesn't..he sits maybe 1-2 inches away from the UVB light.

I kicked the worms outa my apartment...they stank so badly I couldn't breathe....so they are sitting outside in a tub...once the new ones arrive I'm tossing them out into the yard.....then I'll make up a warm spot in the storage area outside for them so I don't have to smell the new ones either.

Hello

Hello Amber,

Hm, you are going to throw all of those worms out into the yard? How cold is it up there right now? They will either die due to the cold, or they will coil up & turn into pupaes then beetles & then they will breed! So you could end up with some large black beetles running around possibly. LOL
The reptisun 10 is on top of a screen top, right? That 1-2 inches is pretty close but if it's on top of a screen that is ok. Plus, you are using a bright white so make sure it is right beside the reptisun to protect the eyes.
Did he eat alot today?

Tracie

Yeah, I thought it was close too, but the branches I have, the only way to prop them up is by making sure they are in a corner so they don't fall while he's on them. That's why they are so close to it.

Yes it is on top of a screen, and also, the sticks are placed in the corner, so he's night directly under like the center of the light, just the corner of the fixture it's in.

We already have big black beetles running around here, haha. They don't come into the apartments, but they hang out in the walkway. They might die because it's cold, but who knows.

I think he's having trouble getting comfortable in his cage. He keeps moving around, sitting for a second, and then moving around again. It's kind of funny.

He got a bit compacted not too long ago, so I was giving him TONS of warm baths, rubbing his belly, plus all the time he was spending under his basking light, so he's fine now. I think I was feeding him too many of the worms in one round, so I lessened the amount I give him to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Hello

Hello Amber!

You already have large black beetles running around, outside from your worms?
Well, the screen will filter some of that out, so it is ok. I know you have a bright white light over him so no problem.
Yeah I would limit the supers to 6-8 per session right now. Once he is an adult, he will naturally cut down on the amount he is eating on the feeders anyway. Good he was able to pass all of those worms! Baths & oral hydration help alot.
He is very active in his tank right now? That is good especially since the weather has been so strange now.
I am happy Toby is doing so well. Did you get your crickets yet?

Tracie

NO, the beetles weren't from my worms...they are just there...haha.

Yes, I did get the cricket replacements, they were smaller than what I expected though, but oh well.

Had an episode of "Night of the Living Crickets" last night.

I fed him, and later that night, I'm looking around, and there were crickets climbing up the walls, on the bookshelves, sitting on the couch next to us....I realized that they were using his stick to climb out through the screen....so I had to move it down after I caught all of them...or at least I think I got them all.

I need to do a weight and measurement on him again, I usually wait until the 25th of every month, but, I think I'm going to do it early this month. :D

Hello

Hello Amber,

Great you got your crickets in, I bet Toby was happy about that huh? :D At least he will eat the freeze dried ones though.
So the beetles are just a beetle huh? Well, who knows what they are just don't let Toby get hold of one.
Oh no, escaped crickets! Well I can't say that has not happened to me. That happened to me just recently with pinheads! They started hatching but I had forgotten to move them to a larger tank than the 10 gallon I had. They got too crowded & started jumping through the screen top! It happened within a 2 hour timeframe. Pinheads crawling up the walls! I was working for hours trying to get them all!
I hope you got them all. Night of the living crickets. LOL
So you are going to measure & weigh him early I don't blame you. :D
