Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My First Beardie

He's upset, I gave him his worms, but only 6 of them. He had them down before I was able to give him his crickets. He had crickets hopping everywhere, and he didn't pay them no mind as long as the tub with the worms was out. He kept looking at them, then at me, then back at them, as if he was going to convince me into giving him more. I felt so bad that I couldn't.

I won't let him get any of the beetles....Never crossed my mind to do so since they were outside bugs.

Hello

Hello Amber,

Aw, poor Toby, so he wanted more worms? You are giving 6 daily then? You can give up to 8 along with crickets, that is fine. As long as he is digesting them with no problem, that is good.
So he did not eat any crickets though as he was confused about the worms? Poor little guy.
As long as he is getting enough to eat there should be no problems.
Good, alot of people feed some outdoor bugs sometimes, & if you are in the city especially it is not recommended.

Tracie

He chows 8 of them down as fast as he does the 6. It's insane how quickly he gulps'em down. Then he wonders where the rest is. haha

He eventually ate the crickets, but it took awhile, once he realized he wasn't getting anymore worms.

I think I'm going to weigh him today, after he eats and what not first.

Hey Toby sounds like a happy healthy critter! Our Beardy's , (Romeo and Lil Tang,) Yes I finally named them. Love worms best of all. they too prefer them to crickets, which they also eat with serious veracity! I have trouble not feeding Tang especially, as much as she wants. She would eat 15 supers if I let her. As it is she eats at least her 6 or 8 and then a bunch of crickets too! When I get the little worms out for the little lizards if her cage is open its her habit now to run out across the table and eat up as many as she can as fast as she can! Romeo is older and still eats alot,, the worms always get his attention, But tang is a teenager and is wild about her food! I don't remember w/ out going back how old you said Toby is ,but this probably is what you can expect from him too as long as he's happy and healthy. We buy the thousand lots of crickets for the two of them . It lasts about three weeks. So don't be surprised at how much he might want to eat!! They are seriously big piggies and thats a good thing! :yesnod:

Hello

Hello Amber!

Did you weigh him? How much did he change?? :D Just curious.
He would just eat worms if you let him I know, but at least he finally ate some crickets when he figured out there were no more worms coming his way!
He can go to strictly supers when he is over 1 year old, no problem.

Hope all is well with you.

Tracie

Crickets?

I was curious if you were dusting your crickets and how often. Mainly because w/ my two little piggies oddly they will sometimes ignore the crickets if they are not dusted. Romeo the older one especially does this. I've wondered if its more of a visual thing or not. Since when they are dusted they are practically neon white comparatively. Maybe its just what they are used to..........

He is roughly 4 months old. No, I don't dust the crickets, he won't eat them that way. What I do is pour the calcium powder into the food dish the crickets eat from so they eat that up, along with their commercial food, and whatever fruits and veggies I throw into the tank as well.

Yes, I did weigh him and he came out from 5.6 ounces (159 grams) Dec. 14th to 7.4 Jan 17th (210 grams)

Now I just need to measure him. Figure I'll do that tomorrow when I have more time.

Hello

Hello Amber!

GREAT Toby gained so much weight, that is awesome. I forgot that you did not dust the crickets. He is getting enough since the crickets eat it & the pellets. Have you tried putting calcium in with the greens maybe he would eat it that way??
How are things going?

Tracie

No, he doesn't touch ANYTHING with the dust in it or on it. I've tried mixing it in with his baby food dishes and he takes one maybe two bites and turns away from it. I've tried varying the amount I put in too to see if it would help, but to no prevail. He just doesn't like the dust.

Hello

Hello Amber!

Well, there are other people that have that same problem. I have one that wont eat superworms unless there IS dust on them. Go figure! :D
You know you could just mix it with water & give it to him through a dropper. That would be fine.
How is Toby doing today?

Tracie

Really? I never thought about a dropper.

Toby's doing good. He got to run around a bit today..well, he was supposed to run around. Instead he climbed to the highest point he could get to next to the side of the couch I was sitting on and just sat there watching me.

Every time I looked at him, he'd cock his head slightly. He's sleeping now though. I might break him out again tomorrow. My schedule, and being sick, has just kept me from spending so much time with him as I'd like to do.

Hello

Hello Amber!!

Great that Toby got to run around some today. So he got up on a perch & watched you! LOL That is fine. At least he had fun though.
Are you feeling any better yet? Sorry you have not been able to spend as much time with him as normal. Is your daughter playing with him too?
I hope he is eating well, even though the weather is so cold.

Talk soon.
Tracie

He's eating fine. Harmony only gets to play with him when I take him out. She'll pull him around in her little wagon until they get to her room where he ALWAYS jumps out and starts running around. haha

He's been lapping up a good amount of the baby food. Today he has apples and blueberries....somewhat of a treat for him to counteract the squash he's been getting. I chop up his dragon bites and stick'em in there as well, so he has to dig down a bit to get them. He winds up needing a bath after it's all said and done due to all the baby food he's managed to get on his feet, his cage, his tail, his face...etc.

The other day he licked some of the baby food off the side of his tank after I had said something to him about it. It was funny.

Hello Amber!

How's it going? That sounds so cute your daugher pulling Toby around in her little wagon. Does he seem to enjoy that? I can picture that. :D
It sounds like he eats really well, a great variety of food. He eats better than we do!! LOL
So, he gets his face all messy after eating his greens & veggies? He needs a bib. LOL He probably looked like he had lipstick on. That is so funny he digs around for the dragon bites & gets messy!
Is the cold weather affecting him much?

Tracie

He does enjoy it. Very much so. He does get messy, I've got to clean his cage from all the baby food splatters that he managed to get onto the glass. hee hee

His head is still finishing up on its shedding. There's a few spots left.

I tried to dropper feed him his calci-water the other day, and he wasn't having any part of it. Wouldn't open his mouth or nothing. Any tips?

The cold weather isn't affecting him much. He's in a good spot surprisingly.

Hello

Hello Amber!

That is so cute though, a messy little eater he is! Toby, he does need a bib now! LOL
So his head is still all patchy from shedding huh? I am sure he looks so cute with it all sticking out & everything.
Well, you can gently get your fingernail right at the tip of his mouth & just barely touch the edge & alot of times they will open their mouth. If you do that enough, he will get used to taking in oral fluids & will take it easily, just by seeing the dropper. :D They can be stubborn.
I hope he is doing well!
Great the cold weather doesn't seem to be affecting him though.

Tracie

WOW! He's got some SHARP little teeth, and some VERY strong jaws.

I had a small piece of strawberry on my finger, and I was holding it out for him to grab. Well, the strawberry slipped and he got my finger. Didn't break skin, but WOW, I knew they had teeth, but it never registered that they'd be THAT sharp. He let go almost as quickly as he got it, but still....wow....I've been bit by accident by him before, and it was never like that...that's why I didn't think their bite was that bad. It's insane.....but cool. Wow! So, I'm very impressed with him. I bet that if it would have been on purpose, it would have broken skin for sure.

Well, I'm off to give him just a few more pieces of strawberry, this time in a bowl. :p

Hello

Hello Amber!!

LOL Yes, they do have very sharp teeth for sure!! :D WOW that was so thoughtful of him not to bite down hard when he realized that you dropped the strawberry. Whew that would have hurt if he would have broken the skin.
You should be very proud of him then. :D Did he eat them out of a bowl after that??

Tracie

Yes, I cut some up, making sure the outer skin was thrown away cuz of the small seeds on it, and then mixed them up with some mustard greens. He tore them up. haha!

He's hiding in the corner of his tank that he sleeps in right now. He seems to do that a lot when the weather isn't all that great, and right now the wind is blowing pretty good, and it looks cold. I wouldn't know if it was though, I'm practically on bed rest. Had to go to the ER last night at 8:30 pm and didn't get home until 4:30 am this morning.

Now, I have to talk to Tim about cleaning out Tobys' cage for me because the doctor has forbidden me to do ANYTHING strenuous. He won't even let me run a vaccum since I have to use a bit of weight to push it. And Toby is in HUGE need of a cage cleaning. I feel sorry for the little guy. Least he's getting attention though. I had him out yesterday for a bit, before the whole ER thing...and then my cousin offered to take Harmony for me until sometime around 8 tonight, and she took him out for a bit while she was here.

So, strawberries are ok for him. I was a little worried about giving them to him....so didn't give him a lot at all.
