In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This thread is kind of in response to the "Greatest invention" thread--my answer? the computer/internet.
I went on vacation week before last, only 7 days & a LOT of driving--but

IT WAS :censored: AWESOME!

I saw my dad for the first time in 41 years...AND met one of 2 sisters (& her family) that I had only heard about when I was younger.
Believe me, one week is not nearly long enough for a trip like this one was!

I recently found this other part of my family (unfortunately) through a 17 year old niece's obituary (in 2007) and then started looking up all the people with my maiden name on google, facebook, and finally myspace.
Would you believe that the name that made this all possible belongs to another niece named, are you ready for this?

DESTINY?!

HOW FREAKIN' AWESOME IS THAT? :D

This has been something I have been searching for diligently for since 1998.
I knew the area they were in and was planning on going there anyway to do some leg-work searching. It is a small town, so I figured, "How hard could it be?"
Thank God I didn't have to do it that way! Finally finding them via internet gave us so much more time to visit and get to know each other.
I'm still walking with my head in the clouds...LIFE IS AWESOME!

DID I MENTION HOW FREAKIN' AWESOME THIS WAS????

Wonderful story Troi! (Destiny! how perfect!)

And I agree, I think the internet is an awesome tool, it's how I was able to reconnect with my long lost high school sweetheart who is now my fiance. :)

That is an absolutely wonderful story Troi, thank you for sharing with us. Condolences go out to you though about your 17 year old niece that passed, but then again how awesome is it that your other niece's name is Destiny??! I'm sure this year Thanksgiving will be extra special for you, congratulations on finding your roots. And yes, the internet is awesome for sure.

Troi rock on every girl needs her father young or old its a special bond, thats hard to replace and later is better than never.I am happy for you I only know of you threw your threads but you seem like a very loving genuine person and the Lord blesses those who Bless others.
