• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Nathan Tow-Arnett TERRIBLE

Been busy for a bit but just browsed through real fast while I'm working on useful things. Paypal settled the claim in the sellers favor with no solicitation of further details or any evidence; Buyer beware with NTA, with Paypal still use a credit card. The Paypal system is apparently rigged in favor of people who lie. NTA made his false statements to them and then immediately escalated the claim for their resolution which precludes any further response.

Necropsy and small-claims are just not worth it on a transaction this small. To file in small-claims runs about $65, a vet visit starts around $80. Unless I suspect an infection from a new acquisition a formal necropsy just isn't worth it.

I find Nathans "experiments" quite curious and hazardous. Whether real or synthetic to impress the masses in an attempt to establish credibility. Unnecessary risks are taken for curious information as a product; what is the experimental method? Has the scientific method been utilized? What is the thesis? Where is the control group? What are the data points? Where is the data? What is the uncertainty? Who designed the experiment?... an undergrad playing around, not a veteran PI. Is there going to be a peer-reviewed journal article on "The minimal requirements to ship uroplatus so as to avoid death and be frugal about it"? I don't see that going over well. In legitimate research there are guidelines to follow regarding the use of human and animal test subjects so that it is performed ethically; I don't see this junk passing. It reads to me like a kid screwing around and playing games to satiate his own curiosity.
Aside from the matter of poor treatment for endangered species, for any animal in general this kind of intentional behavior strikes me, and many others who have read this over here, as animal cruelty. Accidents happen, but this is off the chart.

Now, that said, I have performed some of my own experiments using a "well insulated box", a remote-reading thermometer, a refrigerator and a heat pack. More tests to be run whenever I have time away from my legitmate research but the simple summary of results is as follows:
For a small 'well insulated' box, taken from room temp (~70F) to a refrigerator (~38F) it takes about 80 minutes of constant exposure to reach equilibrium temperature (38.4F).
It took about 40 minutes to come back up to 65F.
For a small 'well insulated' box with a heatpack (taped inside the top away from the thermometer) in the refrigerator an equilibrium temp of 45.6F was attained. ~260 minutes after removal from the refrigerator the box reached an equilibrium temperature of 78.9F in a room nominally 70F.

FWIW, I'm checked out on this one. While the rest of you are interesting to hear from, NTA is definitely a gem that does not sparkle.
