Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. I am planning on attending the Carolina Exotic Bird and Reptile show that is in Raleigh NC on April 30 - May 1st... I have a couple of concerns though... I know that breeding season has just started for many reptiles and snakes, and with the show being so early in the year, I am sure there won't be many '05 stock available. What I want to know is who would be going to the show (breeders and sellers) that have a good reputation that I can trust buying from? and what should I look for when choosing my reptiles? I will be honest, I have never gone to a reptile show before and I am a bit concerned (as I run a rescue and have quite a few personal herps that I love) about getting something that is sick or wild caught. What should I look for?

Thanks

Well, I'll be there, selling some female veiled chameleons, and hand made screen cages...as well as some very special and hardly-seen-as-captive-bred chameleons...

Dr. Dan Johnson will be doing the vet checks. He's usually much more thourough than other vets, and will not hesitate to tell a vendor to remove an animal from sale if it does not appear outwardly healthy. He catches more sick animals than most vets seem to do at these shows, so the chances of getting a sick animal are lessened.

What are you looking for? Do a search on the vendor list at reptileandexoticanimalshow.com and look for the vendors in the BOI, see if they're reputable.

Mandy,
It all depends on which types of reptiles you might want. I look for the show to have really slim pickings. I am going to wait and go to the fall show. Too many shows have run this month and most of what we will get is leftovers.
Feel free to email me or pm to ask any questions. I have gone to the show for years now.

Well, I am currently on the market for Leos, Beardies, geckos, chams and possibly some dragons (mainly Frilled) but a friend of mine (who works in the rescue with me) is going to be looking for snakes and lizards as well. I run a reptile rescue (not sure if I mentioned that in my first post) and I would hate to have anything come in sick and spread it to the others I have. We are also going to be looking for inexpensive cages and equipment in bulk (for the rescue)... Anyone know if anyone will be selling Rubber Boas there and what their price will range at?

I have also been waiting for about a month to recieve my tickets to the show and I have yet to recieve them, or my shirt for that matter... I have contacted the email address on the shows website to ask them about that and if they would have any problems with us setting up a donation jar or two (we know some vendors going to the show) to help a local reptile rescue out, but I have yet to get a reply back... Anyone have any suggestions on a better way (perferable online) that I can get ahold of someone to ask about those two subjects?

What kind of rare Chams are you selling Eric, and what are you going to charge for them?

Thanks Guys...

P.S. Anyone have any warnings about a certain vendor who is suppost to be going? Or know of any that I should stay away from? I am not originally from here and like I said before, I have never been to a show... Thanks again...

Hey, Im going to the show but just to look around. I too bought my tickets over a month ago and havent recieved them yet. I called about them yesterday and they said if you dont get them they will have a master list at the show and to just tell them your name and youll get all of your stuff then. I dont know why, but they always seem to have trouble getting them out in a timely manner. But, I have always recieve them eventually. I would personally stay away from LLL Reptile. They will have a bunch of stuff at good a price, but the few things weve purchased from them didnt last too long. I dont know who it is but there also always seems to be a table there with sick looking leos. Hopefully this vet will catch them though. If you want good veileds then Davidson Dragons has very nice animals. No offense to Eric, I have purchased from Leonard in the past and couldnt have been happier. Not sure if he'll be there though. For Beardies, try Georgia Bearded Dragons. They have some great looking dragons. This isnt a blanket statement by any means, but I try and stay away from tables that have a little bit of everything. I like to deal with the actual breeders who produced an animal. I feel more comfortable dealing with someone who concentrates on just a few species instead of getting one from here and another from there. Have fun at the show. See you there.

Quite a few people were lined up for the VIP tickets missing list at the fall show. I got my tickets the day before the show. I had to wait for the mail on Friday before I could leave for the show. I usually book a hotel room on Friday night and go Sat. VIP.
Forget emailing them, calling is the only way to go. Starting tomorrow they will probably be at the fairgrounds most of the time.
I know the table that you are talking about the sick leos. They come to almost every show, but I don't know their names. They're another one of the vendors that never have a name up. There's a lot of names this year that I don't even recognize.
Dr. Dan Johnson is the same vet that checks the animals every show. Apparently he doesn't feel like they are a problem, but I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. Just like the vendor at the fall show that had the little deli container of leos less than a week old. I didn't think they should have been sold either. There was a bunch of bad looking chams last fall too.
I am thinking that Cold Blooded might have rubber boas, but I am not sure. You never know what Ben Seigel will have there. I guess I have been lucky. All my things from LLL Reptile have done just fine.
Don't know what to tell you about the donation jar. Triangle Reptile Rescue is the only one that I have seen collecting donations. I don't see why it would be a problem, but who knows.
Hope you guys have fun, I'll go in the fall.

I usually work for Tony at the shows - except the Fall Raleigh show, I work for almost all of his other shows. I'll be there Friday after work to help set up.

The ticket thing is a given - always happens, not sure why. Your tickets will be there on the list, it's just a bit of a pain.

Dr. Dan is a good vet, and is far more thourough than the vets that check the other shows - in Tampa, there was a slip that was signed by the vet hanging right next to a small cage filled with over a dozen C.jacksonii, half near death, some on the floor.

I personally mentioned this to Tony(the owner of the show). Just two weeks ago, I stopped by Dr. Dan's office and mentioned it to him as well. He can't catch everything - but he does remove many sick animals - the public never gets to see them. Why vendors have to try to sell somethign about to die baffles me.

Davidson dragons is great - they are big time breeders, but seem to have good animals. I've got no more males left, just 5 females. I can pretty much tell you that you will find no better looking veields: http://zorabellarose.com/available.html
That's the father to my baby veileds - and the males had complete bands, unlike him.

If you want to breed veileds - these females are a great bloodline.
...also...I can pretty much garuntee that I'm the only one at the show selling 3 month old captive born, bred and raised, C. melleri.

I am selling them for a friend who is breeding them. She's had awesome luck with them, and they were shipped to me last week. They were acclimated in no time. Huge little suckers for 3 months too...

I'm building cages, but they won't be discounted unless they don't sell! This is an experiment for me. If they sell, I'll build more next time. IF not....well, I need chameleon cages anyway...

Is there anyway you can ask Tony about the donation jars for me? Vin Hourihan of Natural Chemistry has already agreed to let me have a jar at his table, as long as it is ok with Tony. I was hoping to have a couple of jars set up and maybe one at the entrance. We are non profit so we are completely on our own when it comes to funding. It will help out emesily if we can and it will probably only be for the Saturday show unless a friend of mine ends up going to the Sunday show too. I think it is great that you are building cages, that is mostly what we do too (build our rescue cages) but there are some animals that we can't build cages for and those are what we are going to be shopping for (tree frogs, some geckos, ect...) so we will be looking mainly at glass or acqrilic(sp?) tanks. I know my friend is looking for Chams so I will make sure he stops by your table first to look at them. What are you going to sell them at (price)? I am not sure if he is planning on breeding or not, he is just looking for one for his personal collection... I think I have started to convert him...lol... He has all snakes now but now he wants lizards.

Let me know if you can talk to Tony about the donation thing and let me know....thanks.

I'll see if I can remember to ask him. I forget things like this.
Tony was ok with a non-profit group doing it at theTampa show - it was for medical
treatment for a person, not a rescue group.

I won't be seeing him till tomorrow night. Just bring the jars anyway - just in case.

If you want cages for frogs and geckos, go see twin oaks: glasscages.com.

They started these shows making simple glass terrariums for $1 a gallon. After they
expanded to aquarium grade tanks(thick enough to put water in) they took off. they make the
tanks and deliver them - no middle men, no shipping fees, no paying for losses in shipment -
you save hundreds.

Their terrariums are dirt cheap(20 gallon high is $22, 30 gallon is $30). You can put some
water in them, but not too much. Perfect for geckos, lizards and frogs.

They are very nice people. You could ask if they could give you a quantity discount, it can't
hurt. they also make acrylic tanks too.

Anyone know if Dave Jarves will be there? I will bring the jars and we are non-profit so we do not have the 501c3 tax exempt lisence...yet. Let me know what he says

Hi, that's me, the melleri breeder! I made early bird specials on the CB melleri to encourage folks to take them home and set them up before the weekend ends. You can get the details from Eric when you visit the table. He'll have melleri caresheets and pix of the LTC parents of the CBs. The sire is a muscular blue morph, really awesome. Wish I could be there.

I went to the show but I don't think I saw you there Eric... What table where you at?

For the people I did meet, it was very nice to meet you all!

Really, I was selling the big screen cages, and the CB melleri. The banner above me said Bowman Books - I was selling reptile books as well. I was right in between Twin Oaks and he ladies selling jewlery, all the way to the left as you enter the arena. My brother was there, watching my stuff when I was away - maybe you saw him. I was the only person selling homemade chameleon cages - big ones, 2x2x3.

The show flat out stunk. Few vendors, and little advertizing = terrible turnout. I only sold one of my cages. Good news is I got a lot of people interested in them, and the baby melleri. There simply weren't many people out there looking for big game(expensive setups and animals) .

Every year for 4 years we've had no less than 10,000. We're lucky if we had a fourth of that, it was so slow.

Yep, this show sucked big time. I passed your table Eric, nice animals. You were talking to someone so I just kept moving. I dont know whats going on with the show recently. Last year they didnt start letting people in until about 20 minutes after 9. This year, I ordered my tickets about March 29 or so. Im still waiting for them to arrive. We stood in one line to get checked off the master list. Then they announce we have to get at the back of the other line to get in. Once again it was about 15 minutes late opening. One entire row just about was empty in the center. The whole thing was disappointing and very disorganized. Not that I expected to win 10,000 bucks, and I did win a lizard cave thingy, but over half the spots on that wheel were empty. I dont know, just seems to be going downhill the past couple of years to me. Im curious to see if I ever get my tickets or not. May have to check out the SC show next time. Of course I would suspect the same type of deal there.

I didn't see you there Eric... I wish I would have looked a bit more...lol...
