In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just got my tegu enclosure built and now need 18-21 cubic feet of cypress mulch. Unfortunately, I was unaware since I just moved out from North Carolina, that there is 0 cypress mulch to be found in Colorado. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to find some around Fort Collins or have a good substrate alternatives.

Thanks for the help everyone

I always knew I could count on you guys. I was actually about to buy a ball from them before right after I moved here... had no idea they were right down the street. I will give them a call tomorrow. Thanks :)

To be honest i kind of hate cypress now. It barley holds burrows and is hard to find. I use a top soil and sand mix(50/50), it holds better humidity and burrows. Not to mention if your temps are good if a little is ingested it should pass right through, to many times have tegus become impacted on cypress.

The only thing I am worried about with the sand/soil mixture is that a. if it gets wet (say he somehow tips over his soak dish, don't know how he would just an example) it turns to a muddy mess and b. the way that my enclosure is designed it has small cracks tat the bottom (2x12 screwed into plywood) and I am scared that it will gradually drain the mixture over time. I could put a plastic painters tarp down but then I run into the issue of him tearing it up when he is burrowing. Any ideas on how to help those problems? I was not a huge fan of cypress when I used it with my other tegu, but all other mulches appear to be toxic and like I say, with the enclosure design I don't know how I am going to keep the sand/soil in.

Seal your enclosure with Dry lok, its a water tight sealant, no leaks. If the dirt gets muddy it will just absorb it and to the humidity. The dirt is more absorbent than cypress.
