I have a 6ft Red Tail Boa, I believe he is male though he has never been probed. I received him from someone about a year ago. He was feeding live and I switched him over to frozen. He stays on aspen bedding, as a large hide-a-place and fresh water daily. I have never had a problem with aggression or eating. I recently moved him into a larger cage and he is now in a living room around cats until I can get him moved back into my reptile room. We have towels covering his cage to keep the cats from bothering him. Then last night I went to go hold him and he seemed frisky. Then he tried to lash at me. Not wanting to be struck I set him on the floor because I couldn't get his cage open. He then coiled up and tried to strike a few times. I was finally able to grab him safely and put him back in his cage. My question is what would cause this sudden aggression? Is it the transfer of a new cage and the stress of the cats? Or his it because his cage is covered? These are all things he is not used to. And will he calm down once moved back into the environment he is used to? I work and go to school full time and don't have lots of time to work with an aggressive snake. I would appreciate any advice I can get, I want to do whats best for him.
