In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello, my name is Devin and I’m new here at FaunaClassifieds.com. I need some help here. I recently took one of my bearded dragons to the vet for a facial injury and while i was there the vet said he felt eggs inside of her belly. Well i had thought that all of my dragons were male. Anyway the vet said he wanted to take x-rays of her to see if we could see eggs. The x-rays were not very clear but we could see what looked like eggs, and he said that it could not be anything else. Now this was on June 10th, and since then i have been feeding her like a queen and putting calcium on her food. I have also put a lay box in her cage. Well it is now July 14th and it does not seam like she has gotten any bigger, nor does she seam interested in her lay box. One thing that is different in her is that she has been going crazy in her cage. She is pacing back and forth at the front and scratching at the glass like a maniac! Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome!

You have a bit of an odd situation here. Beings that you had thought you had all males is where the tricky part comes into play. Generally, females will lay eggs about 4-5 weeks after mating. It is also possible that she is cycling eggs which are infertile.

Do any of your other dragons head bob and show a black beard? If they do do any of the other dragons do a slow head bob and arm wave? If so it sounds as though you have a male and a female.

As far as the egg laying goes, she will give you clear signs when she is ready to go. My gals will begin digging around the cage and go off of food. Then more digging, followed by dig, dig, dig. When the day is here, they will pace the cage looking as though they are trying to escape! When this happens I put them in the lay box. I keep them in a closed off area with nothing but the lay box and heat lamp. Try to make sure the area is sound free and safe incase she jumps out. It some times takes them a day or two but eventually they will lay.

I would suggest that if they are clutch mates that you freeze the eggs after they lay so that they can be disposed of.

If she is already running around the cage, I would take a rubbermaid container, fill it with moistened chemical free dirt and set her in a quiet enclosed area.

If you gently feel her belly, can you fill grape like lumps?

I agree with Josh. She will not lay if there is another dragon inside of the enclosure and if she does they might eat the eggs. First time mothers can be a pain to get to lay, so the best thing to do is get a 30 gallon Rubbermaid container fill it with chemical free potting soil or children safe play sand that has been sifted and contains no silica. Cut a hole in the top for the light. Build a mound that is 12" high and prestart a hole in the center on the side. The substrate needs to be damp enough to hold, but not drenching wet. Almost like your building a sand castle. Place her inside and let her be with only checking on her from time to time. I offer no food during this time, but I do mist my females. This can take up to 2 days, so be patient.
I have had 2 females that have showed no signs of being gravid at all. No eggs pouching out or anything. They started to run around the enclosure like crazy dragons and started digging uncontrollable at the corners of there enclosures, so I took a chance and placed them in the lay box. Well needless to say, they both laid 22 eggs each. Once they were done, I removed them and let them soak in a bath for 15 minutes. I also started carefully removing the eggs and placed them exactly how they were laid into a plastic shoe box and set them in the incubator. If the female has been with a clutch mate or have the same mother/father as the other dragon then you need to freeze them. This is still considered linebreeding or inbreeding, but if they are not related in anyway and your prepared good luck. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your responses. All of my dragons are kept in separate enclosures. The only time they are together is when they are in the outdoor enclosure taking in some sun. This is when i believe the two mated, because they were fine out there together and then all of a sudden she started going nuts trying to get away from the other beardie. Now i put them out there separately. Whenever the male sees the female he starts head bobbing and tail whipping like crazy, which might i add is very entertaining, but must be stressful for her. I have placed a towel over her whole cage so that she cant see us or any other dragons. The lay box takes up most of her enclosure and is filled with organic soil. When i feel her belly i dont feel anything, but the vet said he did. this was over a month ago.

The one thing I noticed with my gals is that they will absolutely not lay in the cage. Covered or uncovered. I have heard that females will not lay in the same space they use the bathroom in. I would also recommend that you do the rubbermaid container as well as give her a warm soak like you would for an impaction. You do not want the gal to become egg bound as that can be fatal to females.

She had a nice soak just an hour ago. I will go purchase a rubbermaid container later today and set it up for her.

Do i leave her in there 24/7?

It shouldnt take 7 days, but I have had to leave them in there for 2 days. Once the 2 days are over then I placed them back into there enclosure for another day or 2 and then I try the lay box again. Patients and persistence is key.

Using the already mentioned soil or sand [ or combo of both ] you can also use a much smaller Sterilite plastic container like the one I have pictured. It's about 16" x 11" x 6" high. I know it sounds small, but for me it works every time. Cut a hole in the corner of the lid and introduce the female in to it. If she is ready to lay,she will start digging. I put the cardboard and the rock over the hole and check every few hours...especially if it's gotten quiet. That's usually when they are laying. I do cover 2 sides with cardboard just for when she's laying. I keep the container in the cage...serves as a basking platform...you can cover the entire top of the tub with some newspaper in case a dragon has a bowel movement.I cover the hole with a piece of cardboard and a medium sized rock. As for disposing of eggs...you can just pour ice water on them and throw away. I am careful about putting anything that is potentially very unhygienic in the freezer with my food. Absolutely no need to do so . Sorry the pics are so dark...I took some with lights on and some with them off.

So i bought a big rubbermaid container, filled it with organic soil, cut a hole on one end for the light and poked a few small holes in the other end as vents. I Put screen over the hole where the light is and stuck her in there.

All she has been trying to do is get out. she is ripping at the screening and just going nuts trying to get out. I am starting to get very frustrated.

Hold tight Devin. This can be a very frustrating deal. Are you dragons housed solo? If she is housed with a male, the male will usually continue to try to breed her which also makes them go crazy. I would leave her in the box for the evening and check on her later.
