    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Ok now I know it's generally not a good idea to put beardies on playsand until they are 10-12 inches long to avoid impaction..but Ive seen plenty of stores/people's ads on here showing there babies in playsand of some sort..

Only reason why i ask is beacuse im adopting a friends beardie who is pretty old and she will be on playsand and I figured it might be easier rather then changing paper towels every night..Also I think it would not stress the babie as much...

Whats everyone think.. Also for a 5-7 old beardsie what is proper temp?? I was thinking the basking spot should be lower then I had my babies at so like around 95-100?? Im thinking 75 watt basking bulb or 100w?
 
I honestly put my babies on repti-sand because it is very finely grated sand and I have yet to have impaction problems. I don't use playsand for babies. I do have a 6 year old boy dragon and still have his temperatures set at 105 basking and he is doing great. He acts just as youthful as my 1-2 year old boys.
 
Im going to a Herp show this weekend (16th) and im in market for some new babies..I read that some people put construction paper of some sort on sides of their tank to not stress the babies as much..Does this honestly work?
 
It definately works. They get stressed out by a number of things such as people, larger dragons or reptiles, or other pets. You just cover up all 4 sides of the tank with paper so they can not see any possible "predators" lurking nearby. Stress can kill a baby or make it not eat and it's a small price to ensure your dragon's peace of mind.

I personally use sifted children's playsand. I have never had an issue with impaction but it basically just boils down to your personal preference.

I would also keep the adopted older dragon at regular temps. No need to change anything just because it is older.

Covering the babies tank with paper is a great way to provide comfort to the babies. They can't see out and no one can see in. It provides tons of security to the babies if other dragons can look in or they are in a busy area of your house. Stress can and will kill babies. Better to have an ugly paper covered tank then a pretty tank of dead babies.
 
I use brown craft paper or card stock to cover the sides and/or the back of the tanks. For babies it helps them to understand that they have walls so they won't spend half of there days running against the glass trying to get out. It also confines there space to make them feel more secure. For my adults it keeps the males from having a fit to get at the other males around the room all day and gives them some peace.

I will definitely cover the sidees and maybe put a scenery backdroip on back of tank but I like to be able to see what there doing so if I just left the front open to view would that still not be a good idea..They are in my room and NOTHING is in my room moving around until around 5pm thats when I get home..no other pets to worry about
 
EVERY DAY!!!!! I always offer fresh fruit, veggies and greens everyday.

As far as crickets, mealworms, superworms, waxies, and silk worms..........................Crickets and a few mealies every other day, waxies and supers about 2X a weeks, and silkies 1 time a week. A lot also depends on your dragon. Some adults eat crickets everyday, some won't. Most of my guys won't eat everyday so thats why they are offered every other.


Above is only what I do for adults over 1.5 yrs old. (non breeders)
 
OF COURSE i would be feeding everyday..lol

I was curious cricks wise..sorry I should have stated..So Ill just drop in like 20 cricks every other day but Ill keep fresh greens in there every day..Only problem is I buy bundles of greens for my babies I used to have and the greens spoil real quick, in the fridge or not..Any tips on how to make greens last longer?? Also what kind of fruit do you feed? I assume I still need to make it relatively small but not quite as small for babies..

I will be picking her up tomorrow at 630pm I will be changing around her environment a bit to make her more comfy and next step is taming her again she hasnt been handled in awhile
 
When I had a small # of dragons I would go to the local grocery store and go to the salad bar. The one near my house had EVERYTHING!!!! I would grab some spring mix, romaine, sprouts, strawberries, blueberries, cantelope, honey dew, shredded carrots, shredded red cabbage, bell peppers, etc..............

Very cheap and plus you only buy what you need!!!! Nothing spoils. :)

Ok I just realized I do not know what it means when people say "They get fired up" I assume there colors change..but does this mean when there happy or what??lol at me being dumb
 
It can be any number of things, usually it is excited or "I'm ready to mate!". My dragons get "fired up" when you feed them, take them out, bathe them, when they display to eachother, and if they get really warm when basking.
 
I just the got good ol girl set up.. pics to follow of course still trying to at least make her cage LIVEABLE till I can do a full change of play sand and possibly put her in new tank..Large crack in bottom of this one resulting in having to leave on a board..

She seems a little skiinny to me, but could be wrong..she is active and had already pooped once but it was like diarrhea..so dont know if thats a bad sign already but Im gonna try and nurse her back to pure happiness..

Changed around tank a bit he has wayy too many logs in there..I sifted out old urate/greens/poop and will re-place with new playsdand this weekend..baked branches just in case and gave her a water bowl..he had two tiny dishes in there for like babies... Im gonna go get her lik 15 large cricks right now she is trying to eat the babies that must have been hatched in tank itself from previous parents..I put some greens in for her..Nowe its all bout taming/getting her on schedule and just enjoying her..

Ok gave her 20 large cricks..she must have been hungry she was going frantic over them and like 4 superworms..Im curious..she like does this thing with her head she like makes it vibrate reall fast..is this bad??
 
I use tan Reptisand for babies, sifted playsand for adults. Reptisand hasn't given me any impaction problems (nor has the playsand for adults). I tried the Calcisand at one point and while it was finer and possibly safer I hated it due to the dustiness of it. Last thing I want is my dragons and myself breathing it in everytime I sift the sand, that can't be any good for them (us).
 
Head twitching and star gazing can be signs of adenovirus I do believe, but since she appears otherwise healthy I would just watch it for now. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE observe a good quarantine period (90 days) to keep your other beardies safe. I am sure you know the drill, no contact, wash your hands etc, etc. I once had a "rescue" who actually had a clean bill of health only to turn up with good ole YFD and even gave it to one of my other BDs. Lucky me. The runny poo thing I would keep an eye on as well as it can signal parasites like pinworms or coccidia but is at this point likely due to moving stress. Good luck.
