In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello, im almost positive my blizzard is suffering from MBD. I've checked his temps, he always has water, food is readidly available, yet he is still stressed(dark color). So today when i was holding him i was checking him out (looking for any black spots, any kind of external parasites, etc. Then i realized his legs were shaking every step. I use that leopard gecko dust every other feeding so obviously this dust isn't working, but none of my other geckos are showing signs of it, so i guess i'll be switching that... Can someone please give me a link to a site that sells calcium w/o Vit. D3 in it, i've also got ReptoCal that i will now be supplying to my geckos instead of that other stuff. Just one question about calcium, isn't there a such thing as "over dosing" it, so wouldn't keeping a cap full of it in the cage and dusting their food overdose it?

Thanks.

Oh yeah some other stuff. He is still eating, defecating, and since i last weighed him (about 2 weeks ago) he has gained 5 grams.

Just some comparisons between the 2 supplements i will be using and what i used. R= Reptocal (what i am switching too), L= Leopard Gecko Dust.

min. Calcium:R= 27% L= 14%
max Calcium:R= 35% L= 16%

Since i am now using Reptocal should i still supply some calcium without D3 in the cage or will that overdose the calcium.

I don't beleive they can overdose on calcium, but too much D3 is toxic.

Shaking legs almost sounds more neurological to me though... I haven't had any experience with anything like that though, so I'm sure there is someone here who knows more about that.

I've seen the shaky legs thing in some of my young albinos. They seem to out grow it. Dark colors in blizzards are not necessarily a sign of stress. All four of my blizzards stay dark. They get light when they're stressed. It depends on the blizzard...

As far as MBD the first sign is a slight bowing of the front legs and a weakness in the jaws that prevents them from effectively crunching and gripping insects.

... but it would not hurt to step up the calcium (without the D3).

Thanks every one.

Alice: thanks, i never knew that about blizzards. Mines always had some type of a dark tint to himself ever since i've gotten him. Do yours only lighten up when they are stressed and about to shed?

Are you guys positive you can't overdose it, when i mentioned i was going to get some pure calcium my friend said that too much calcium will kill them.

I always add some rep-cal with D3 to the dish of mealies. I've been doing this for at least five years now and my leos are doing great. They can't overdose on calcium, but they can on the D3 so if you're worried about that, use one without the D3 (I haven't had any problems with the rep-cal).

Just make sure you get a calcium supplement that does not contain phospherus (calcium phosphate etc). Reptiles need a 2:1 ratio of calcium to phospherus. Feeders are high in phospherus, but low in calcium so to get the ratio to where it should be, you need straight calcium. The supplements containing phospherus are meant for herbivores.

What should i get, RepCal ultra fine caclium with D3, Reo Cal Calcium without D3, or RepCal Herptivite supplement? Or should i get 2 of those, like repcal with D3 and rep cal without d3???

Thanks

You CAN overdose on calcium...and too much calcium can cause big problems...but its not likely...especially if extra calcium is just supplied in a dish. They should regulate their calcium intake out of a dish to only get what they need.

Stina's right that it is theoretically possible for them to OD on calcium, but I've never heard of anyone having this problem, and I've never had it myself.

Personally, I've just been using the ultra fine Rep-cal with D3 and adding Herptivite once a week or so. At the next show, I'll probably pick up some of the Rep-cal without D3 and either mix the two or use one for the mealie dish and one for the calcium dish. I haven't had any problem using the Rep-cal with D3 exclusively for the past several years, but I know that there is a potential for overdosing.
