    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

hello all
i have a problem with my 1.1 baby amazons i got them three months ago from a guy told they are feeding great .
will they havent ate nothing on there owen yet, this what i have tried
mice pinkies
rat pups
mice pinkies scented with
tree frog scent
grean anoles scent
blue belly lizards scent
chicken scent
bird scent
and also tried green anoles
blue belly lizards
tree frogs
and none of these worked so if you have trouble feeding your amazons and got them to feed please tell me what did you do or if you have any idea's replay to me here or email thank you very much for your time.

p.s the only way to keep them alive is i had to force feed them mice tails, and tried to talk to the guy who sold them to me he dont respond to my emails .

Amazon's

I had some that was like that and i had to feed them anoles and house geckos. then i slowly switched them to the mice. They can be a real tempermental eater. Try that.Keep us posted :eatsmiley
 
sorry to do this, but anytime you've got problem feeders - ya gotta go back to basics. Make sure everything is correct from a husbandry standpoint (temps, humidity, substrate, etc). are they drinking (either from a bowl or when misted)? are you messing with them between feeding attempts? do they strike at the food when you offer it? post pics if possible...maybe just a case of finicky feeders, but you never know. and you shouldn't have to forcefeed them often, if at all (I admit that I personally tend to intervene earlier, and more often than I have to, but I don't recommend that practice). Let us know your cage specifics, including the variables mentioned above, we'll help if we can.

they are housed seprate in

as you can see in pic
now they dont strike at food,but they would strike and bite me when ever they get a chance, i mist them once a day{they still drink from water bowl}, temp is 82-84 ,hum.70-80,{just as i keep my green tree pythons}
any ideas what am i doing wrong?

when you feed, how are you introducing the prey items? its funny that they don't strike at food - if you haven't done so, try feeding with long tweezers (more control than the tongs/hemostats). they should at least strike when you move the prey item (don't be afraid to touch/nudge them in the process...not right on the nose, though). for the most part, I have found ATBs to take FT pretty easily...sometimes ya just gotta get'em mad enough at the food to bite it. you're on the right track if they are striking and missing. sounds like you're doing stuff right, just keep going. give them some time without messing with them, though...wait a couple weeks (just misting/cleaning) then attempt to feed again
 
From the pic, it appears that the newspaper substrate is rather wet...the coloured section can give off fumes... you might want to just go with a plain bottom or one with paper towels.
Are they getting enough UV exposure? Many of the tree boas I have had in would not eat, but after a day or two under good uv, they started feeding quite well....

They look like they are in good shape. I would stay away from any forcefeeding and try the following:

Leave them alone and give them some privacy. Check them around the early evening time and wait until one night when they are quite responsive.

I would then try a thawed, superheated fuzzy mouse and offer them on long forceps/tweezers. They should strike and constrict the mouse. Once they do, give the mouse a couple of very gentle tugs and that should initiate constriction if they haven't done so already. Once they do, move away very slowly and quietly under the cover of darkness. Superheating prey and offering food at dusk/night usually works well with any tree boas. Good luck!

Are you housing the pair together? If you are, then seperate them. Try hatchling frozen quail, available from Rodent Pro.

One of our babies born late last year still hasn't eaten. He is almost 3 months old, he hasn't eaten, but he still defecates. I've seen them go 6 months with no food, then just start eating one day and never stop:) Be patient, they either will or they won't, but keep trying.
 
still same problem

will i give up i tried everything you guys have said and nothing the only thing i got out of them is a strick and thats it one strick lol. now im just going to wait and see what the heck is going to happen

Have you tried a live, little bitty hopper mouse (the shrimpy ones that look like pieces of popcorn running around)? I had many baby Amazons that wouldn't eat anything else for their first meal or two, but liked to ambush the quick little hoppers. You would be amazed at what they can eat if they want. If you go to somebody who raises mice, ask for an unusually small hopper to try. They move differently than what you can do with forceps and it just seems to excite little atbs.

-Braining the pink, use a small push pin to punch a hole in the head of thawed pink and force out the gray matter. The snake should be allowed to taste the liquid with it's tongue. I have had success with smearing the brains of rats and chicks on pinks.

-Do not thaw your pinks directly in water, you maybe washing the scent off if you do this.

-Try offering the front leg of a small mouse. Simply snap it off while it is frozen, thaw and offer.

-Hatchling Quail, these guys are available from RodentPro, try offering a wing.

-Try rubbing the tail and body instead of tapping.

-Place the animal in a small deli cup and leave it overnight with a live pink.

Might try adding a little silk vine (found at WalMart in the crafts section). Being so open they might feel a little insecure and therefor don't want to eat. *shrug* Worth a shot. I have silk vine in all of our arboreal enclosures and they love it.
