• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

NEIL GUBITZ

Gilbert if you care enough to look.  He had two different accounts.  So it threw me off.

Well spoken Gilbert
Specially from a man who is under investigation.
A man who threatens others.
A man who has sent hateful e-mail to countless numbers of people.

Thank you Gilbert !
Thank you for letting me know that I am so important to you that you follow me around and post where I post.  Thanks
I feel special

Hello Mott,
It was still not at the bottom of the statement.  Oh, I see things can be altered depending on who you are.  Is that the wat it is?
  Richie,
You are so full of it!!  I am not being investigated.  Think of another one.  Kinda like the phone bill statement.  Dude, you are such a loser!!
You need to read up and see what constitutes a threat.  I merely stated what I would do if put into a situation to defend myself.  I never once said I would start the altercation.  However, you and others take it that way because you can't handle it and that's the way you want to take it.  However, it's okay when a challenge comes from your mouth.
Things can be perceived many ways.
To hear you put it.  Sherlock Holmes is on the case.  You forget I know better and I am from here and know everyone.
I would know the minute some stupid crap like this was reported.  So try and scare someone else.
You and others read to much into things and fly off half cocked.  WoW!  There is an investigation and he doesn't pay his phone bill.  Come on man give me a break and grow some nuts while your at it!!  I bet you were the one in school that said.  Teacher he hit me or teacher he cut in front of me in  line.

Well Webslave I took this to him in a personal email like you said to do.  Now he has brought it back on here.  I respected your wishes and he did not.
Thanks,
Gilbert Thompson (TUBBY)

OK, Gilbert Thompson and Ritchie Luna, you are both advised to cease and desist your argument between yourselves in this thread.

If either of you have issues with the other, then create a new thread for this purpose or use one that has one or both of your names in the topic line.

THIS thread is entitled NEIL GUBITZ, and I would like the subject matter presented in any subsequent threads to be about the topic stated there.

This is a serious warning.

I would like to add my 2 cents, Neil admits that he was wrong for sending the e-mail he knows that he stepped over that line that he had no reason at all to cross. No matter what his attentions were ,good or not he knows that he was wrong (now). When and if the webslave needs help enforcing the rules I am sure that he will ask, I know Rich fairly well and he is not above asking for a helping hand. I would like to ask people to remember that the next time someone want to play "rule police", I am not talking about Neil only here because several people on this board do it. My advise is this, If you see somebody post something that is against the rules in anyway report it to the moderator. It is nobodies job to correct a person on this board but the webslaves.

As far as the e-mail, you can report it to your internet service provider.

I am sorry if this post upsets anyone but it is how I feel, I hate it when someone post " you need to put your full name or your post will be deleted" and then they post nothing else on the topic. The bottom line is this, The is the webslaves site nobody elses eh will enforce the rules as he sees fit to.

I posted this in the reptile city thread before I noticed Neil had his own "special" thread going. Seems fitting. Neil seems to be in the news more than Jerry Tubbs was a few years back!

Neil,

Do you not have anything better to do with your time than comb through the BOI looking for posts without full names? You want to be a part of this community so bad that you have taken it upon yourself to police the boards, which unless I am mistaken, you have no authority to do. If people cannot read, understand, and impliment the rules and procedures for this board, then there posts should be deleted just like it states in the rules. We (the users who abide by the rules) should'nt be tortured by your constant, unending blabbering about their lack of "signature". I'm sure your a great guy and all that but damn...

GIVE IT A REST MAN!!!!

Jason

Gilbert,

if you cannot see, my full name is registered and in the upper left corner of every post.  There is no need to place it at the bottom again.

As far as Neil's e-mail goes, I can understand why he did it.  I get frustrated when there are people who for some reason can't read the BIG RED WARNING that says POST YOUR FULL NAME, too.  And this is not an offense to the Webslave in any way, but he can't possibly catch them all immediately and sometimes others here take it upon ourselves(I am as guilty as the next)to inform them.  I for one am NOT trying to play moderator or Webslave Jr, just trying to let someone know who may have missed the rules that their post may be deleted.  More often than not, those people who are trying to make valid points/arguments will realize the mistake and correct it.  But some will not.
I personally keep it in the thread if it's noticed, but Neil chose to take a more direct route by e-mailing this guy personally.
But the real point is, monitor YOURSELVES.  If you wish to post here(or any website for that matter) there will always be rules and you should endeavour to adhere to them or suffer the wrath of Uncle Goobs!!! <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>  Sorry, had to throw that one in.

Ok, first off..  I completely agree that the way in which Neil went about pointing out that little rule was completely inappropriate and uncalled for (I think he agrees also).  And that should just not happen.  But, I don't think there is any problem with pointing that out when you see it.  I just think it should be done with tact.  I honestly can't say that I would even think about reading the TOS of a website before I went to, and posted in a forum.  How many people honestly say that they read the fine print?  All it takes is a simple, "You need to post your name with your posts, or they will be deleted."  And, IMO, that should be done publicly so others can see it as well.  I'm pretty sure that Rich can't police this site and check for names on posts on a daily basis, and I don't think he probably cares to.  This site has always had it's members partially police it.  What's wrong with that?  Just as long as people are decent about it.  I wouldn't mind hearing Rich's opinion on the issue.  That would pretty much settle this, and I'd completely respect his wishes either way he feels, of course.
Regards,
Lucas

OK, official policy:

Please feel free to remind new posters that fail to provide their full name, that it is REQUIRED for posting here.  But a couple of caveats.  I am far more tolerant of those posts that are posting neutral information or making a query about someone without providing a statement for or against the person they are asking about.  And I am also slightly more tolerant towards people saying positive things about someone than I am about someone saying negative things.

I am also VERY reluctant to delete a post that is obviously from someone defending themselves from some negative postings, where the identity, although clearly recognizeable, is not explicitly stated.  In such a case, I feel that my deleting this person's posts would convince him/her that there is an obvious bias against him/her, and they are not being allowed to defend themselves here.

I believe this is a logical stance for me to take.  And I do appreciate any help I can get policing these threads, but anyone stepping in should do so tactfully and try not to piss off or scare away a potentially valid source of information.

As for the question of whether sending private email or posting publicly in the thread is more appropriate, that is a judgement call to make.  A public statement does reach a broader audience, but in the case where someone doesn't check in here all that often, I would like to have them contacted directly so they can possibly correct the error before I delete their message.  But do NOT flood this person with emails from everyone.  That would likely be very intimidating for them.  Perhaps someone could post within the thread and make note that an email was sent as well.

But which ever way it is done, bear in mind that I want people to feel this site is for them.  Scaring away people because of an overly harsh or blunt email will be self defeating for what this site needs to be most effective.  And that is participation by as many people as possible.  The more sources of information we have, the more likely we will have a true picture about anyone whom is asked about here.

Does this clarify my position?

Webslave, I would like to make a sujestion. Could you elect a person to do this "policing"? I would like to elect Rob from R/K Reptiles, He has the tact to handle this job in the right manner. I think if you leave it up to everyone to do you will see that everyone wants to be the "new" sheriff in town and it will have a adverse effect meaning 10 people will post for the person to post their name and 10 people will e-mail them. I think it would be better to have 1 person do 1 job instead of 100 people doing 1 job.

You know, for the last two years we've all been helping the WebSlave out in this area, and I've never seen so much fuss about it before.  Maybe it's because of the tone of Neil's email that these folks got upset, or maybe it was simply because Neil was the one who sent it.  Either way, I just don't get it.

Also, I don't know, but I think it's a bit ridiculous for everyone complaining about the BOI police to be suggesting new rules.  Are they now policing the police?  If you can't handle Neil, myself, or someone else telling you that you need to add your full name to a post lest it be deleted, read the rules BEFORE you post!  It seems that the least one can do when participating in a FREE forum discussion is to actually follow the rules.  Maybe I'm way off base here, though.

C'mon guys, surely there's more than this to upset everyone!

Darin, I am not saying that there should be any rule changes but rather apoint a level headed, calm and polite person to act as "RULES POLICE". Whenever someone forgets to post their name 10 people will jump the gun and the will scare off any new members to this board, people will stay away.

I would just like to add sometimes Neil is a little harsh but no harm done I think we all should lighten up and be happy. The advice and help the BOI gives the herp community is worth alittle harshness sometimes. Peace

Sometime people post threads without their name that I feel are important as they relate to their experience with another person. If I take the time to respond to that thread I would like the thread to stay, that is why they are usually reminded (politely) that they should post their full name so more people can contribute with their experience. If we wait for the webslave to do his job then the thread will get deleted and this person might or might not post again. If you do it politely I don't think people get upset. Example: "Could you post your name before this whole thread gets deleted"? It just requires one more sentence that ensures both our efforts don't go down the drain.
