    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

New and in need of help plz!

I'll start out by introducing myself, my name is Molly. I signed up under my son's name because it's his Leopard Gecko, but he doesn't understand how these forum things work...so Mom is stuck doing it :)

We, I say we because I just love this little guy/girl don't know the sex of it. But it is my son's leopard gecko and Mom is taking over LOL Anyway Charlie as we've named him lives in a 10gal. tank with heating pad under him...please forgive me if I'm not saying these right or correct I'm new too this owning a Leopard Gecko thing :) but has a heating pad under him and a light on top with a screen. He has a small water dish and a place too hide with a little bush to rub against. His daily meals are meal worms and crickets for a snack. I'm concerned with him/her though it doesnt seem to be up too par lately :( I'll explain my concerns:

1. I messed up lately by purchasing too big of crickets for him :( learned by experience on that one! Now has smaller crickets though :) I'm wondering could have the bigger crickets scraped his eye some how? He has one eye that seems to be bothering him he keeps licking it and it has a milky white film over it?

2. He just recently shead, BUT it didn't all come off from his feet!! They seems to be bothering him. I was told because there wasn't enough moisture in his habitat? Last night I purchased this green stuff that expands with water and placed it under his hide away. But he doesn't seem to be going in there. How can I get the skin off his feet with out hurting him?

3. He's not as active as he use to be :( I didn't realise until 2 day's ago that he's suppose to be getting Calcium??? I also purchased yesterday Reptivite with D3 from Zoo Med's is this good? I was told to dust his crickets and feed every other day. I've some where that he should have a dish of calcium and he'll eat it on a as needed basis?

Please help us, we're new too this ownership of Charlie and I want him back to normal :) Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance

Hi Molly,
Check out this link for care info;
http://www.anapsid.org/leopardgek.html
Try misting him every day with warm water to see if that helps. It might be shed. If it doesn't come off and seems to weep or get red he'll need a vet.
The bowl of calcium would be bad. Too much calcium can be as bad as too little. Just dust his crickets twice a week with a multi-vitamin w/d3, and twice a week with calcium w/d3.
Seeing he just shed, he might be fine, but watch the eye.

Good luck!:)

Hi!!

First of all, congratulations on your new Leo, and welcome to FaunaClassifieds!!

Okay-I'm a crested gecko person, but some of these things I can help you with because they're common gecko husbandry issues.

1-The eye issue. He really needs to be seen by good herp vet.

You can find a reptile vet in your area at-

www.herpvetconnection.com

or

www.arav.com

2-The stuck shed issue. You need to make him a little "sauna" to rehydrate the stuck shed so you can gently remove it, or it can constrict on him and injure him.

Take a "glad-ware" container with a lid ( or other cheap plastic container with a lid) and poke a couple of tiny holes in it for air exchange.

Take a paper towel and fold it to fit in the bottom. Add about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of LUKE-WARM water to the bottom and set the gecko inside for about 10 to 20 minutes. Take him out and use a Q-tip (or your fingers) to gently peel the skin off.

Put the container with his stuff. You'll probably need it again occasionally.

Also, mist him a bit more often. The tank should dry out between mistings, but he shouldn't be having shedding issues if his home is humid enough.

3-Calcium. Some geckos will eat their calcium from a dish, others need to have it mixed with their food or dusted on their insects. I do both. It never hurts to have a dish in there if they need extra, but I always dust my bugs.

I always use calcium without Vitamin D, because it can be toxic to some animals...but I use a UVB light to supply it. UVB can't give an over-dose.

Does he have a basking light? The UVB from the light helps him to absorb his calcium correctly.

Good luck with little Charlie!!

Hugs-
Donna
