    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just got this boa a week a go.I don't know if it is a male or female. But it is almost 6 ft long. It was an abandond in an apartment. the people moved out and left the snake in the apartment 3 weeks before anyone was aware that the animal was there along with a cat. Then the boa was held for creulty investigation. It was cheked by the vet . Everything is well. The boa did not want to eat in holding .It was there 2 weeks. Well, anyway, the boa has been at my home ,and I've tried to feed it mice, rats, gerbls, alive and dead. It won't eat. The boa looks like it is looking for something but won't eat. I have had pythons before this is my first boa. Is there different care for a Boa? any suggestion.

Care is pretty much the same, mabey just alittle higher humidity. I would just wait and try to feed it in like a week. If it has been through alot of stress it might be better to let it settle in.. Sounds like it has had a hard time....

thank-you for your reply

thank-you for your help. I'll wait another week. I just wanted it to eat so I know it's alright. The boa has been though a lot. the cat did not make it so the boa is lucky it's made it this far. What do you think about B-12? My vet told me to come in about 2 weeks to get the injection if it has not ate yet. Boy I need to come up with a name. How can you tell if the boa is a male or female without probing? My vet said he would try but he has never done it before.

With a boa that size, I wouldent sex it any other way but probing. If it is a male and you pop it it could laeve the hemipene prolapsed...If he dosent know what he is doing Id find another vet. I wouldent do the B-12 right yet just wait and let it settle in and I bet it will be fine. It looks to have some good mass on it so missing a few meals isint goin to be a problem.

thanks for the info. there isn't very many vet that will even see any herps. I also have a tort that when it was a baby it had alot of resp problems. it took alot to take care of him. so the vet I'm using is pretty much willing to help and only charges cost to take care of them. thank you for helping me. can I e-mail you if I need more advice?

Good deal, glad to hear it. I figured it would eat. Boas have a pretty good feeding response..

That is definitely not a Colombian Rainbow Boa....that looks to be a Central American Boa Constrictor of some sort....Rainbow Boas are a completely different genus (Epicrates) and look nothing like Boa Constrictors.

Well did about 3 hours of reading and I agree, its not a rainbow. Sorry for the mistake...Now to figure out what it really is..

Boa (not eating)

I looked at the pictures and He/She looks in good shape and good weight. I would do like MGR recomended and give it a week or two before you feed it.
Can you send a better full lenth shot...maby we can help you with the sex. Also...this is breeding season and that may be another reason for the fasting.

Just a heads up - the original post was made back in October of 2004.
I'm guessing that if the boa wasn't doing well - we would probably heard something from Ramona.
