    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

New Leo not eating

We just got her yesturday (I think she's a girl) She's real young, about 3 inches from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. She ate about 2-3 small meal worms so far, and no lil crix. I'm thinking since she is new she's just trying to get used to her surroundings and she'll be find soon. But my sister's worried. And there's no harm in making sure.

She's in a 10 gallon with a hide and a water dish, so far just one hide, but we're getting her more toys soon. The temp is 89*-96* at any given time. (I told her to keep the ceiling fan on, it might help it stay at a constant).

So if any one has any ideas on what it might be, temp too high, she's just new, or whatnot please let me know. We have been holding her every now and then, should we just let her be till she starts eating?

First of all your temps are WAY too high. The warm end of the enclosure should be 88-90, the cool end should be room temp. It is very important to provide your leo with a thermal gradient (warm side/cool side).

It is good idea to offer a dry hide and a moist hide. Sounds like you already have a dry hide, so try cutting a hole in the top of an empty margarine tub or some other container, fill 1/2 way with peat moss and moisten. You want it to be moist but not soaking wet.

You should probably not handle your new gecko for several days. Give it time to get settled in, and make sure it is eating really well. A gecko the size of yours should eat daily, or every other day at the least. Make sure you are gut loading your feeders and supplementing with calcium and vitamin powder as needed.
 
I wouldn't handle the lil guy too much, leave him alone for a few days or a week even. Handling so much could be stressing the gecko and cause him not to eat especially when he's just a baby.

Also, it's normal for new geckos to not eat immediately. Might take a week before they start eating regularly.

I third that motion... I tell my customers to wait several days before doing any handling. Especially if it is a juvie or it had to be shipped to you.
I seriously wouldn't worry about the not eating for at least 3 days. If there hasn't been any eating by then, contact the breeder or store to see what he/she/they did to get it to eat... for some reason I find I have some leos that just refuse to eat mealies and some that refuse crickets. If it's from a store... your basically better off just trying to solve the problem yourself and giving it some options to choose from.
