    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just picked up a young savannah monitor, I've never had a monitor before, and was debating between them and a tegu....but this little guy fell asleep in my hands when I rubbed his head....instant attraction. Now I've only gto him/her in a 10 gallon for now, I'm getting a 20 from a friend soon. And I have a 4' long tank for later. Now I know they get bigger than that, but by the time that happens I'll have a house with a reptile room and build him/her a custom cage. I'm also gonna build a large hide from some trunk pieces that are in the back yard...(I ahve a thing about cutting trees down) anyone know the proper temp and time to bake them at??

Just so anyone knows I have only just recently started keeping reptile in a large amount, and have been having a ball. I have 11 leopard geckos, 2 crested geckos (although I'm currently looking for 1 of them, sneaky little bugger), and I also have 2 veiled chameleons. I'll shortly be getting my corn snakes from Wendy as well!!!! YAY!!!!!!

So any info you've got hit me with it. I'm more than willing to listen.

And of course here's my lovely monitor.

in the basking spot it should be about 100*-130*F and on the cool side of the tank it should be in between 75*-90*F. they do the most growing at this time in their life and you should offer him/her food every day and give him/her as much as he/she will eat. try not to handle it too much when you first get it. by doing this you will increase the stress level of your monitor. let him get comfortable before you start handling him/her. feed vitamin dusted crickets and frozen/thawed pinkies. if u give him live food he will get used to moving objects being food. you should also use a uvb light and fresh water everyday. as your monitor grows over 12" or so i would start offering him hard boiled eggs, minnows, dog food, and shrimp. the more you handle him/her the better. and also make sure that they can fit in their water dish. mine loves soaking in his water bowl. i hope i gave you a little bit of info

Sure, there are lots of people that can give you all sorts of information (some good, some rather poor). My guess is that you didn't get much in the way of response because you weren't asking for anything specific. Even if you have a pretty good knowledge base, coming on to a forum and saying, "Hey, I just got a _______, tell me what I need to do" just comes off like you don't care enough to try to find out. You would be much better served by doing your research and coming here for specific questions. Of course, I could be off base on my thoughts, and maybe there are other reasons people didn't respond.

oh trust me, I read up on my reptiles...my fiance hates how long I spend gathering info on the net and in books...jealous lol. I found out about the water bowl thing fast, I swear he thinks he's a frog.

I just came on here so that I can get personalized info. Which I think can sometimes come in handy more than a book. Personal experiences of people were always my prefered method of learning. I'm waiting right now for my corns, they're on their way from stef at Triplemoonsexotic. I've been so busy picking her brain and reading about them that I forgot to come back here and read any responses! Personally, my favorite part of my monitor is his temper, he earned the name of Moody, cause after I feed him, he gets all tempermental and hisses at me for looking at him. He's been quite the content boy the last few days, hasn't needed a basking light with our temps being 100 here, he has spent quite a bit of time in his water though. I have to usually kick him out so I can change it. Silly baby
