I've had 4 customers come in this week and tell me how the everglades and Florida are being over run by giant snakes and killer monitor lizards and venomous lizards. I usually get 1 or 2 a month but I'm guessing it's sweeps week on animal planet and they need to get the ratings up. The latest and greatest was story that related how they are now finding the only venomous species lizards in the world in the everglades. I don't know about you but I thought there were two venomous species of lizards (Beaded Lizards and Gila Monsters depending on who you listen to) and that they came from habitats much drier than those found in the everglades.
Once they figure out how to get rid of these animals someone is going to get very rich in Florida. I figure that because they way they are making it sound there are no people left because they are all getting eaten and there are no animals left because they are all getting eaten and once all the giant snakes and lizards are gone the whole peninsula will be free for the taking. It will be like exploring in the 1800's all over again.
Anyway, just had to relate this. I get so tired of telling people that these shows only exist if they get ratings and they wouldn't get ratings if they didn't stretch the truth a bit (at the very least) or flat out make stuff up so they need to take things with a grain of salt. I also love how these shows are now "documentaries" as if it gives them more legitimacy. I don't watch animal planet so I really don't know what shows they are talking about but they are all pretty much the same old shows with the same old "facts" but hey, judging from this past week it must work and that's all they care about.
