In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

New server anomalies?

I have had trouble with the Photo Gallery. It won't allow me to log into it.

This should be fixed now. Please let me know........

Thanks.

Try taking a look at my http://www.SerpenCo.com website. Click on the various culticars say in the 2007 Baby Corn Snakes section......

I think this was just a ploy to get me to look at all those corns I don't have. Then, seeing your out of the egg special, I would be tempted to buy said snakes.

HA HA, nice try Rich. But I wasn't born....... Hey those hypo lavenders sure do look nice. :D

Yeah, I guess that would be a good ploy, but honestly that wasn't the thought in my head at all.

Changing servers is about the closest to a "death by a thousand cuts" that I have ever seen. Even hiring someone to do the actual move for me still leaves so many loose ends that it's ridiculous. I've been fixing, or requesting fixes for, problems all day long. Just found out that none of my backups had worked since the server move. :ack2: I was merely a hard drive crash away from jumping off of a bridge........

Oh Crap!!

Did you ever get that 1T external reformatted?

Yeah, but it wouldn't do me any good when the server is out at some data center somewhere and the external drive is here by my desk. That drive only backs up my new local computer. The backup program that wasn't working is the one I set up to backup all the MySQL files so I could download them. With everything going on, I didn't get a chance to even try to download them since today, which is when I discovered the routine was not working. Since the new server is a RAID 0, if either one of the two hard drives had failed, it would have been the equivalent of BOTH of them failing.

Just a little thing I've noticed since the server switch is after I give Karma to someone the window doesn't close like it use to but turns a solid green color. I thought at first the window was freezing up.

Here's one that popped up tonite, Rich. When starting a thread on the BOI, the option to close the thread is available. I don't recall it being that way before...but I never really looked for the option, either)

Only probs we've had is the green screen of death. Poking around the site in IE generally leads to serious loading lag or a blank green screen. IF the page loads it takes 30 - 45 seconds ( most times longer ) of crossing fingers to see what we get. IE has been freezing up a lot as well but only on this site. I thought it was on my end originally but it works fine if I use Firefox instead of IE.

Being stuck in the boonies , otherwise known as land of dial up , I use IE mostly since my net accelerator only works with it and not Firefox. At 4am when traffic is much slower the pages load better but I can still get the green screen of death. Dunno why but at any time it loads 2 - 3 times faster on Firefox without the accelerator than it does on IE with it.

Dial up just sucks anyway :ack2:.

I've tried some different settings in the optimization options of this site. I get that green screen hangup as well, but everytime I have done a traceroute, it shows the problem to be from a hanging router at Comcast. So far my sending those traceroutes to them with a request to address the problem have been ignored.

You may want to run a traceroute yourself to see what you come up with. There are 13 servers/routers between my computer and the server holding this system. Any one of them having a problem can cause a significant slowdown in your showing a page. And yes, I have been able to go to other sites as well and there not appear to be as much of a lagging problem. Why that would be is not clear to me......

I will say that at this time of year, patience is just not something I have a lot of, so system slowness will REALLY frazzle me....

Ditto, on the green screen and long load times. I thought it was just my computer acting up - I really haven't been doing much online, and have gotten some interesting hiccups and bog-downs. I did do some bouncing around over the past few days, and this is the only place I experienced this (except for the time a virus scan started in the middle of a game I was playing, lol - that was the source of my hiccups)

Yeppers, me too. I thought it was my computer and didn't want to complain if it was just me. I am DSL but thought with some of my other bug problems that was the cause.
I have only been periodically checking stuff lately as it is a busy time in RL but now that I have a chance to really look at it it is only this site that is doing it.

I have no idea what a traceroute is much less how to do one. If its a ISP router issue I'll try changing the access numbers we use. Currently we're routing through a fairly decent sized city so I'll try the little podunk city numbers and see what happens.
