In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well as the title states I am new to the forum and i am wanting to get a leopard gecko. But I need info. I am going to keep the leopard gecko in a 10g aquarium but the hood to it is ruined so what would I need to start up this new home?

Hi, Welcome the Fauna, This is a great place with lots of info and a lot of very knowledgeable people.

I dont want to offend you or insult your intelligence in anyway but I have to ask if you have researched leos at all. I really recommend doing so if you haven't

What you will need,
The ten gallon will work I prefer to use the 20 gallon long, gives them a little more room.
Undertank Heater
Thermostat or Rheostat
Some sort of Solid Substrate (ceramic/slate tile, reptile capret, papertowels, newspaper.)
At least 3 hides, one for the warm side and one for the Cool side. You will also need a humid hide I use tupperware containers and cut a hole in the side so the leo can get in and out and moist papertowels on the bottom. This aides in the shedding process.
Food and water dish
Calcium dish
Pure calcium
Multivitamin
Calium with Vit. D3
Digital thermometer with a probe to measure substrate temps
Warm side should be between 88 and 92f and the cool side should be about 10 degrees cooler.
You will need some sort of feeder insect crickets, mealworms, silkworms, superworms roaches
Something to keep the feeders in
Gutload for the feeders
I hope I covered everything lol If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Sounds like kristy coverd everything! It is very important that you do your own research though if you have not already. Welcome to Fauna and Good luck with your leo!

Also I cant seem to find an Undertank Heater, exactly what does it look like because I could have overlooked it. Whe I did the search for it, it showed only Under Gravel Filters and so thats why I am wondering.

I agree...do as much research as you can beforehand and make sure that you have the tank set up and working right before you get one. Also, I would strongly advise you to get a gecko from one of the breeders from fauna. It might seem more expensive with shipping, but at least you'll know that you'll be getting a strong, well-established gecko instead of a possibly sick one from the pet store. You'd also actually be saving money-you wouldn't have those big vet bills! Oh, and welcome to fauna! :wavey:
